Is the Land Pride SGC0660 Grapple Right for You? Works great on the Kubota B2601 with SSQA - MCG #33

  • This is my Land Pride SGC 0660 Grapple review, although there's a lot more detail I could go into. It's easily one of my very favorite attachments for my Kubota B2601 compact tractor and front end loader. It offers convenient functions that make all the difference. How many times have you said, "I could use a third hand"? Well, a grapple can feel like that when you are working with brush, limbs, cut trees, and more! I use this on my B2601 but it would also be a great fit for the B2301, B2401, B2650, B3350, L series L2501, LX series LX2610 and more. I'll also show you a quick demonstration of how the Skid Steer Quick Attach or SSQA works and an explanation of the 3rd function valve.

    We ended up going with the SGC0554 on our B2601 even though it's more aligned with the BX Series. I like that it's a little narrower for getting through the woods and it still is a helluva workhorse.

    You have a nice, calm, smooth way to explain things. It's the first time I see how attachments are attached to a tractor. I in no way work with machines, but I am just obsessed to learn about pretty much anything. Thanks.

      I agree about the way you explain stuff. What you don’t do is use due diligence for what your iron can do w/o tearing it up recklessly. You should have videoed the debacle of loader frame getting bent when abuse occurred. That fix cost more than the grapple, the cost was your burden for abuse NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY.
      Your channel has merit. The low key, oh, by the way, I destroyed my loader and, I felt you should know, is like many YouTUBE ‘informative videos’ that do, but, not really.
      Your focus, based on your use of this grapple, would have been excellent, not knocking the product but, what really happens when you fail to become informed beforehand and show ignorance is no excuse for releasing a video with the incorrect focus when another was more important.😢

    As a standard rule before getting off of a piece of equipment you lower buckets and implements to the ground, its safety that we learn at work that we take home with us.

    Couple your grapple fittings,or any other attachments,when not in use together.Not only for cleanliness,but balanced pressure in the attachment when the temps rise.You can avoid pressure lock in your attachment fittings which can sometimes cause hard reconnects due to oil temp rise in the sun.These are great little grapples,just use them with care.I destroyed mine on my small skidloader,my fault.Always try to center squeeze the loads.

    Hi Ed! Thanks so much for another informative video. I too own a B2601 that is outfitted with the LP SGC0660 as well as the LP PFL1242 pallet forks and a LP RCR1248 rotary cutter. All very useful around our 80 acre homestead in Northeast PA. One way to keep the hydraulic couplers clean is to use the dust caps and plugs that come with the grapple (BLACK DUST CAP, 1/2" QD AG, 861 539C, GREEN DUST CAP, 1/2" QD AG, 861 539C). When I purchased the grapple they were not on the unit and I contacted LP who told me they should have been and that the dealer left them off. The dealer was helpful and provided them to me but I would not have known that if I did not examine the grapple Parts Manual (380-164P). Thank you my friend and best of luck with all your projects. Stay safe and well!

    I replaced my trust B6100D (a long time friend) with a 2601 just as Covid hit. My grapple is from Everything Attachments here in NC. Delightful. Handles 8 ft logs and more around the farm. Also, I did buy the 42" pallet forks when buying the tractor. One of the most useful attachments ever. I like the bucket but I love the forks. If you don't have a good knowledge of hydraulics I suggest you do a 15 minute read. Important that the operator understand how to release line pressure on the grapple and on the 3rd function side. That and keeping the connection clean and you are good to go. The 2601 is an ideal size for out 20 acres, could easily handle more and, when combined with the grapple/forks/more....is useful both in the woods and on the fields. Enjoy!.

    I have the grapple as well. Because I don't have much room in my barn I made dollies for the bucket and grapple. I just drop the attachment on the dolly and roll it to the side and roll the other one in place. Use either locking wheels or wrap a rope around the wheels to keep it from moving when you are detaching or attaching. So far, they have worked well. On another note, how do I get to your videos as a menu? I wound up on the You-Tube list for searching, but, not your You-Tube channel. Thanks for the vid Ed. If you had it to do over, would you change the type of the 3rd function connection or the type of grapple, claw type like you have or the ? Kubota dealer wants $1,500 for the 3rd function and $2,000 for the grapple right now. I'll be looking around further, but have been debating the hydraulic valve vs the electronic diverter 3rd function and the claw type, like yours or rake type, I call it, grapple. I see the claw type grapple is lighter and therefore allow you to work with heavier objects. You explained the two 3rd function operational differences in this video-thanks. 🍻🤠

    As someone trying to find and buy a 2601 I really enjoy your videos. I'm looking for a smaller tractor to work in the wooded areas of the farm. You just can't use a full size tractor on the woods. The 2601tractors are currently difficult to find in east Tn. the dealership I visited yesterday didn't have a single one. They did have a few LX models for 29K. They are larger than I want for the purpose I need it for. That's why they still had em, too small to be farmed with, to large to be a compact. Can you say "bastard size" boys and girls? Haha thanks for the videos.

      Haha. Yes the B2601 really fits a sweet-spot for compact sized tractors. We were actually talking about this on the livestream last night - every size tractor has it's place. I wouldn't rule out the LX2610. It seems only moderately bigger and is more capable. Otherwise keep looking. My B2601 was not in stock when I bought it pre-pandemic. I ordered it and had to wait about 6 weeks. Maybe just get the order in now. Good luck, and thank you for your kind comments. -Ed

    The dealer near me has several of these grapples sitting in their scrap pile
    I have repaired mine several times before adding two more pivot points between the ends

    is your loader greased? The zerks are so clean. Pins look pretty clean as well. Maybe just looks that way in video.

    Which 3rd function valve option did you get with your B2601? I've been working on a build on the kubota website, and there are 2 options for a 3rd valve: a B1672, and a B1653. The rep I've been talking to over the phone hasn't been able to explain to me the difference, if any, than $100 in price there are between the 2 different valves. So many options, so much confusion!

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  Год назад +1

      I’m afraid I can’t help much. There were two options when I got mine. A Kubota version and a Land Pride version. I’m not sure which one they installed but I don’t think they function any differently. I guess you can ask if it’s a true 3rd function or a diverter. Mine is a diverter so I can’t curl and close the grapple at the same time. No complaints though.

    Hello Ed from Ontario. Just about to purchase a Land Pride grapple. There are two models the SCG1060 1nd the SCG0660. The 0660 is a lot more robust than the 1060 but so, is the price point. Any issues with the 1060? Thanks in advance.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  2 года назад

      Hi Bryan. My only experience is with these 0660 so unfortunately I cannot give you any advice. Perhaps the 1060 is better suited for a BX model. I’m very happy with the 0660, and can tell you I would not want anything smaller or lighter. Certainly, your dealer should be able to give you some good advice. Good luck!

      Hey Bryan, you have it backwards. The 1060 is the heavier version of the two. Ed has the lighter one 🙂

    Ed, are you still happy with your Land Pride grapple? I considering buying one with my tractor and since my dealer handles Land Pride it would be simple to go with the SGC0660. There are so many grapples out there, wondering if you've seen anything you might like better?

      Hi Randy. I’ve heard great things about the EA Wicked 55 but my only experience has been with the Land Pride. I love it and it was not damaged with the bent loader. My only improvement would be to have more tines - closer together. Good luck. You’ll love whatever you get!

    My Cluttered Garage: I just placed an order for a Kubota B2601 with Land Pride SGC06 grapple. Do you recommend a counterweight in the rear for normal operation? If so, what is recommended? Thanks.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  3 года назад

      Congratulations Chris. You’ll love it for sure. I always use rear ballast. I had my rear tires filled with bio ballast plus I have a 60” box blade that I keep on the 3 point whenever I use the loader or grapple.

      @@MyClutteredGarage My local Kubota dealer is going to fill the rear tires with ballast. I do not have any rear implements for the tractor. At least for right now, all of my tractor work is grapple/FEL work. Maybe someday I'll get a backhoe, but that's a few years down the road. I'm wondering if I need a weight/ballast box attached to the rear of my tractor in addition to the tire ballast? I see a few brands of ballast boxes are available. Land Pride makes a WB10. What is your opinion on this? I enjoy watching your videos very much and they help a new tractor owner like myself understand equipment choices & operation.

      @@MrBlue-ip2ye Thanks very much. I'm most comfortable adding rear ballast even with the tires filled. I'm not familiar with brands of ballast boxes. Some people even make their own - like a "carry all" with blocks on it.
