I buy the SMALLEST light colored picks I can find.. and that DOES help me with a smoother strumming sound/ring you get it. Lol I’m using Ernie Ball for the passed 8 months or more, they last forever and they are obvious even tho they’re a fraction of the avg pick size. Hope this helps someone! 🤘✨
I swear I was better at strumming when I first started and now I've got it sounding ugh on up strums. Gotta try this - seeing the pick angle is helpful.
I find a lot of people hold the puck too tight. That’s fine for playing leads, but when strumming, find that sweet spot in your pick grip where you still get volume but you also have some feel. If you hold it too tight when strumming, you won’t have any feel or be able to emote the chords.
Use the thinnest pick you can find. Yes, hitting the strings too hard is something that happens when you start out on the journey. I remember the day an intermediate guitarist told me to soften my strumming and to practice just brushing the strings. It's just more practice, honing your craft.
Sooooo helpful. Sooooo unconscious. Sooooo easy to fix. Sooooo good. ❤ I am wondering why you never taught us this tip before Mmmmm. Thank you. Sound improved dramatically on faster strumming patterns, funny that 😂.
Why would one not use the nails it works perfect on the sensation on how much is the right pressure. Because The skin knows it before the sound reaches any ear 👂 Even self ear So yeah Nails matter Take care of them And try to be natural I can not upload my book here so just believe in your skin sometimes It will break but it will grow And also Be kind to the body and the skin To begin with Yes bro kind to yourself
Good point. We should question everything. Just about all the beginner guitar courses show using a pick. One's fingers seem more natural, plus there is that skin to sound connection. I will see how I like it. I don't want to "unlearn" a "bad habit" though. What are the arguments against using fingers?
It depends what chord(s) you are playing as to which ones you strum on the way down. Coming back up is a bit different, not many players hit all the strings on an up strum. You can make your up strums creative thru the song by hitting 1 or 2 or 3 strings, vary it. It give the song a bit more colour and variation.
Strumming is my nemesis
Fr
Me too, especially going up
same for the love of god i either cant catch all the strings or go to deep. or both at the same time. I'm actually about to give up.

Been learning chords for while now and learning songs...decided to focus on strumming and instantly this tip has helped me. Thanks man!!!!
What’s amazing to me is how great players look like they are smashing it but have total control. I think that’s the secret.
That's all the hours practising and good practising habits all rolled into one.
Yep. I prefer using the pick sideways interestingly enough. It works for Me, what can I say ?
Good 🎉😢😮
have the exact issue as andy described, will try your tip too, thanks
I rotate my pick depending on the technique required. Jazz lll. Pointy for solos and the round part for strumming fast
Appreciated
Strummers keep strumming! 🤠🫡✌🏼

Your advice is really awesome and it makes me to feel good playing guitar now. What a great teacher you are. Thank you.

Probably more likely you’re so much better at guitar now that you’re noticing flaws that you wouldn’t have picked up on in the past
kurt is that you

Andy, my pick is really loose and I keep having to reset the grip during songs... help!
Buy ones with grip. They have those. 👍🏼
I remember that issue back in the day. I glued a bit of sandpaper on both sides of my pick😅. It worked well 😊

I think the word he's looking for is arpeggiated. Good video.
Crazy how much this small change affected my strumming and made playing so much more comfortable thank you ✌🏼

"Agro" is a sad use of language...pathetic.
Only pathetic one here is you. Getting your knickers in a bunch because some guy used a word you don’t like. Grow up, Johnny boy.
It's such a commonly used word in Australia. We shorten everything down 😅.

Hi! I wanted to ask should we strum all 6 strings up and down?
It depends what chord(s) you are playing as to which ones you strum on the way down. Coming back up is a bit different, not many players hit all the strings on an up strum. Thanks for the tips bro🤗🙏🙏🙏
