I was just kind of wandering through music in my comfort zone (some of many genres) until I stumbled upon Nightwish. Only then did I realize they fill a void in my musical soul I never knew existed. I must admit, I was so thoroughly captivated by Ghost Love Score that it made me hesitant to listen to more tracks as I thought there's no way they could live up to GLS. I couldn't have been more epically wrong. Great react Psyche, new sub.

Hello again, Psyche! I'm glad you decided to continue exploring this treasure trove of diamonds and pearls that is Nightwish music.
You have reached an important point in your analysis: "music that makes you feel emotions, which you did not know you had" - all the members of the band contribute to this, expressing in a masterful way the seeds of feeling planted by Tuomas Holopainen. Yes, he is a genius. Coincidentally, he happened to be a metalhead :) so his main form of expression in Nightwish is this, metal music.
But his genius is not limited to this genre. Together with a member of Nightwish (Troy Donockley from the UK, multi-instrumentalist) and his wife (Johanna Kurkela, Finnish singer) he laid the foundations of the "Auri" project in 2018 - they have already released 2 albums so far. And the 2d disk from Nightwish's latest album (Human :||: Nature, 2020) is actually symphonic music. So "the Nightwish rabbit hole" is deeper than you think, and has amazing twists :)

I just loved that reaction. This is one of the best songs for me from them, it is so relatable and gets to me, could be like my motto and life story, or a guideline sort of. I dont know many songs that tell a story like this, a childlike story for adults, a fairytale. This teaches me that you shouldnt lose the child in you.
I also didn't think it would be possible that everything an artist does could be 'good'...I genuinely think that Tuomas might surprise you! There are NO weak songs or set fillers with Tuomas and NW...every single composition is a carefully crafted work of art. This band will take you on journeys and explore emotions that you probably didn't realise you had. I used to be a general music fan (and piss poor musician), covering all genres, over a long period of time. I found a home with NW.

I have never heard a bad Nightwish song. Not sure they are capable of it. You could dump the instruments down the stairs, and they would find a way to make it sound good. All of those people are beyond talented. Every Nightwish song is like a story. They are simply remarkable. And Floor....i mean. Floor.
Tuomas is definitely a master story teller. When you hear more you’ll recognise themes.

Every song at the Wacken show was written for one of the first 2 singers. Floor added to the originals and made them her own.
This song was originally done with Annette ,who is more of a pop/rock singer, Operatics were not her strong suit, so a choir sang those parts during her tenure.
Childhood innocence and stories are themes that Tuomas likes. He is also a fan of , and takes inspiration from, Hans Zimmer and Disney.

I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here.
She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja )
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish.
Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

Great reaction! Love your commentary and style. So glad you are enjoying Nightwish! The "pipe organ" you noted is just a keyboard stand, as you also noted. He has a couple of Korg synthesizer keyboards back there. ...And his wine rack! The stand is modelled after a famous sculpture at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. If I'm not mistaken, I think this is where he went to school for his music training and has created this stage prop as a tribute to the school.

Yes Metal Mozart is an incredible songwriter, when you eventually get to Poet and the Pendulum, it will take your breath away but that song needs you to learn the history, hurt and full meaning ideally but is not totally necessary, can’t wait to see you looked stunned again soon when Floor surprises you once more, take care

Hey Psyche, great to see your reaction to this compelling song. I agree with you in those details you mentioned about the vibe of this band. You can feel their music even you watch them on videos. It's the quality, I would say. Everything has been planned and thought carefully, every detail, even keyboard and the microfone stands or the stool where Troy in one video is sitting on. You're right about the stories in the songs. Tuomas has told that every song is a story and on that story comes the music. Actually I enclose here a link to a video if you have time to watch it. It's about making an album. There are 21 episodes, not very long ones, but this episode 3 is an interview of Tuomas, where he is telling about composing the songs. It gives a glipse of how they make everything work. About the songs, even they are sometimes dark, but very often you'll find hope for the better at the end of the song. It gives you a good feeling when the last note is played. See you, waiting for the next one. By the way, you have a beautiful long hair, how about a windmill with Floor?

Great reaction and discussion of how you take on a song. Storytime, my favorite song of Nightwish with Floor. My 2.5 year old granddaughter's loves it also. Everytime she visits, we watch this video and the Tampere 2015 video of Storytime. She just loves these. She has got the crowd clapping and fist pumps down pat.

AsI have said many times: Floor's first fan was the floor fan! From her first performances that are recorded (when she was 20 or 21, although she was on stage with 16) you can see her hair flowing in the wind. And when a technician forgets to put it on, she can get very annoyed, like on Pinkpop 2004 (23 years young Floor singing with her first band After Forever):

Well done Psyche. Great to see you again. There are many song from Nightwish that are much softer and may be more in a style you usually listen. They all still have some of Tuomas' amazing compositions, but they are much less metal. Many songs have very deep level poetic lyrics. Check out "Kiss While your Lips are Still Red" for something much softer. Live from Wembley arena in 2015.
You absolutely have to see the Song of the Poed and the Pendulum from this concert. It's so emotional and deep that tears come to your eyes. But please watch it from start to finish without a break so you can fully absorb the emotions... And don't forget the reaction video. I look forward to your reaction!🤘🏼🔥

Songs dont born jam/jamming with band. Story/idea/lyrics of the song is always 1. thing. Ghost Love Score is usually suggested as a first just to introduce you to their tightness, talent, and range to tantalize your pallet. And not to worry about the "same food all the time" thing, ha with this band you will become a gourmet, they do it all, covers, folk, ballads, pop, rock, metal and two other production numbers as GLS, The Greatest Show on Earth which is 20 min, and Poet and the Pendulum which is 14 min, and as you've mentioned their songs do tell fables and stories and you can mostly just go in cold, although the consensus is that it's worthwhile to research the Poet and Pendulum as it is very emotional and involves Tuomas and the band's bad situation. So yes, I can say you might have found "your thing" cause they will definitely take you all over the spectrum so we'll be here riding along with you.
Hi D845 thanks for your comments. I actually find my own way and I chose GLS myself as I loathe marketeers and steer clear of them. I won't be told what to play as no one pays mefor that service and I give up my time for free - plus as said, if I find my own way I enjoy it more. If I need help I have no problem in asking fir it. This is our Valkyrie Goddess for you. And you witnessed first hand a "Dutch Windmill" , and to finish you off, The Operatic "Cruise Missile" !!!! And you felt them both 😁.
Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch 😁.
Awesome tune , although it is kind of a popish sound (originally sung by Anette), but Floor gave it soooo much POWER !!!
Nightwish lyrics are often a bit interpretive, and not as "straight forward" as many other bands, because Tuomas prefers people to put their own interpretations and life experiences into the lyrics. you connect with songs on a personal level when there is something there that relates to things you have gone/are going through, and you may even find new connections later on in life when you have gone through other big events/emotions. there might be songs you are quite indifferent about (oh, nice song) and then you go through something big and all of a sudden it makes you break down in tears because now you relate to something in the lyrics you didn't before, and see it from a whole new perspective. imagination and life experiences are powerful, and Tuomas has great appreciation of this.

Now that's what I call a reaction. Far too many Nightwish 'reactions' are solely for likes, subscribes, patreon etc. with a token "Wow, guys, that was great....", etc. as a 'reaction'. Yours however, was honest, precise and to the point, and analytical, in a positive way.
