Excellent explanations and demonstrations, Shihan. Simple and effective. I especially like the final technique - where you use the natural "flinch reflex" that we all have - as a practical defensive application, with a follow up/escape technique. Keep up the awesome work - this channel is so helpful to those who want to have a deeper understanding of their chosen martial art. OSU!
A dumb question here. You say that (around 7:00 in the video) that he can't punch [because you have him wrapped up.] but what about if he punches your exposed right elbow hard?
coming from Ashihara, I would add that the last technique can transition into a mawashi uke clinch -> maki komi nage if you follow-up by stepping out to the left. add a knee to the face/body while clinched to really bring the pain. osu, great vid!

There is literally NO ability for him to throw with any power whatsoever due to his body alignment. Its a non issue. Not a dumb question OSU!
@@ShihanTomCallahan Thanks for the reply. That brings up the related question, how hard would a punch to the back of the elbow need to be?
@@massmanute I don’t think thats a real option quite frankly. A good way to break your knuckles too. A fight is a fight anything can happen though.
Always good instruction Shihan! Osu!

Excellent content. We in Shotokan use kiaia and don't use Ossu.
We ALSO Kiai. This is much different than OSU. I have another video on the meaning of OSU! I appreciate your comment and thank you for watching.
Perfect examples of tai sabaki.
