  • 'Critical wandering' is the one of the most common symptoms of dementia. When elderly with dementia wander aimlessly, they may go missing or have an accident, which can lead to death.

The thing is that they forget how long they’ve walked… they don’t realise it’s been hours or even days. A family member of mine with dementia was missing, thankfully he was found after around 12 hours. He just was on a walk with his dogs but he kept walking after going off track. Thankfully he was found before it got dark, but the dogs had injuries on their feet from walking for so long. He didn’t realise he was lost, he told police he’s just on a walk. So since they might not realise themselves that they’re lost they won’t ask for help, it’s really so unpredictable.

I suspect the first man fell into the water or wandered off into a wooded area and died. The daycare centre should have had locks on the doors that only staff could open.
I think that family members should sue Apple AirTags into their parents jackets/coats.
I don’t know why the one wife wasn’t more worried about her husband disappearing for 38 hours, he was found dirty and missing a shoe and she doesn’t think he needs a wandering alarm.

AirTag would be pointless, since they leave items behind all the time. They have those bracelets and necklaces (that are non removable) families can buy with the person’s information on it. Oh, there’s also non removable gps trackers.

With how many cameras/CCTV Korea has installed it's always surprising that someone can go missing....So heartbreaking for these families....

My grandma in Korea died in her late 80s before my grandfather. She was vigorous and active, but unfortunately broke her hip and went downhill from then. lol, she was still smoking cigs when I last saw her in her early 80s. My grandfather got dementia and my aunt / cousin had to look after him. Dude wandered off a few times though.

All demented people, either in a care center or at home, need an alarm at the door and must wear a sensor. That triggers the alarm. Families are often in denial for too long about this! There also needs to be education about dementia so that the relatives (usually wives) don't continue to think their loved one has control over what he/she does.

So sad just a thought how about pinning symbol on their top or jacket recognized by public means they have dementia may need help.

Maybe they should put a tracking device on her feet. That way they can track in a minute.
