Every schrade product I've bought after watching your channel I still have and use. Great products for working people. Thanks much for sharing and everything you do. Blessings 😇
A friend of mine broke my Sog seal pup elite when his throw landed flat like yours. I threw that knife 100+ times with no issues. My friend throws it once and it breaks.
What do you mean it's not full tang? It sure looks like it goes all the way down to the end and is pinned in place, exactly how Ka-Bar USMC knife is?! Am I wrong?
Right Bryan. These knives are fine. That was a lot of abuse for knives not designed for throwing. Any make with a 90 degree cut stick tang will break eventually.
I have Smith & Wesson Extreme ops and HRT ( Hostage rescue team ) folding knives made of 440C steel....I must say they are very good, especially HRT knife.
I was just looking up info on and older (still nib though) CKSUR1 I've had for at least 10-12 years. It's really more of a combat knife and is a double edge, sharpened on the top for about 1 1/2". I got it out to compare to a Ka-Bar USN Mk1 I just recently picked up. Obviously the Smith isn't the quality of the Ka-Bar but it's half the price so there's that. Both look really cool though.
In my case, it was the SUR2 clip point that failed :-). I just saw your video and it reminded me of my own experience. I bought this now discontinued SUR2 knife as a budget fixed blade about five years ago. After batoning the knife through a block of wood, the blade snapped in half about 3 inches from the tip. After learning more about steel types and different knife brands, I replaced it with an Ontario SP2 knife. Although batoning could be considered abuse, I have put the Ontario SP2 through much worse and it is still going strong. I enjoy your reviews. Stay well, Raviv
S&W are decent knives when used properly. Clearly, I won't be throwing my knives at anything because that's a good way to get someone to lose their weapon and also a good way to break them. Throwing knives for throwing, Tactical knives for tactical and hunting knives for hunting. Every knife is made for a specific purpose so if you break a knife throwing it, it doesn't mean the knife is crap, it just means you clearly broke it doing something you weren't supposed to.
I've tried several S&W knives and when you find them on sale they are decent beater blades. I actually had a big rounded off cleaver type knife of theirs I liked but someone liked it more and stole it lol. Cold Steels GI Tanto is a way better deal in everyway imo. You won't break it throwing it either. :) Cool video, no one can say you weren't giving it an honest review.
I had the same knife, a very durable knife, I used it a lot, to the extreme, I am surprised how strong the knife is for this price. Hardly one can find a better knife for this price. TOP !!! I did a lot of batoning and splitting, to the extreme, he never let me down !!! besides a knife like this I will never buy an expensive knife because there is really no need unless you want to brag a little about an expensive knife
Used this till I got my KA-Bar, but even tho I technically got the real deal I still love this thing. Great video by the way I love your overall temperament.
Any rattail tang knife will break when thrown at a hard object and the rotational velocity does not equal the forward velocity, so just don't do it. They make throwing knives for that purpose 🤣🤣🤣 combat fixed blades are not meant for throwing, they are meant for Fighting. With a good edge, they can feather with the best bushcraft knives, but I wouldn't baton with one. That said, the clip point blade was very impressive, I have some S&W folders that are very strong top quality blades. I keep a S&W Tactical Ops Folder in my Mini-14 case. The Tanto blade is not one of my favorite designs, but will get the job done. The sharpener is a diamond plate, quickly puts a edge on your blade but removes a lot of metal. I would swap or add a hard Arkansas stone
Survival On Purpose i meant with that sheath but anyway thanx for the quick response and how about ankle carry is it any good in that aspect with the original sheath?
I have the tanto and I just can’t get over how the strap gets in the way when pulling it out or putting it back in the sheath. Other than that, I really like the knife.
That Search and Rescue knife looks like a shorter Kbar which is a plus imho. Another plus is for 25 bucks I would be more likely to take it to the woods than my $80 Kbar. Thanks for another great knife review Bryan!
For the money, I'll buy 2 Moras. Fun vid, but you couldn't run fast enough to give me a wagon load of any of the Knife brands mentioned. A knife is a tool that can be counted on to perform in a life and death situation. Thanks
For those who say Brian is "Selling out" to big companies, if he reviews knives that companies sell just because they give them to him, does that mean his review is invalid? I have criticized Brian on things where I believed him to be wrong, but I don't believe in ANY way he'd lie about a product just because he was paid to be a shill. In spite of our differences of opinions, I firmly believe Brian to be an honest reviewer. If he reviews mostly inexpensive knives, there are a LOT of people he's going to reach, because not everyone will spend $250 to get a Bark River or an L.T. Wright knife.
If ya had some kind of flag you could fly when you start your review, then if you break the knife in balance testing, you could fly the flag at half mast.
Knowing that the overall design of the blade won’t break when it unevenly strikes the target at an acceptable velocity tells me these knives are well worth the money, unlike some ka bars out there.
I understand that you review budget friendly knives for us but they're are better low price knives better then s&w I honestly don't like them because of the edge retention and blade steel I work for a construction company and I've had some knives snap. I know I shouldn't be so rough with them but if I got it in my pocket that's what I'm going to use.
Smith and Wesson is VERY budget friendly and HIGHLY underrated! I like S&W and Schrade! I have a few of them. For those who don't like em, you don't have to so KEEP SCROLLING! We all have our opinions, and are fully aware of what "opnions" can be...
I got the knife recently and on the packaging it said full tang but I don’t know what happend you may have got it wrong but still for you recent Viewer’s
I just thought it would be interesting to see top 3 survival items with the Priscilla and schsp1 and rugger 1022 takedown combined with battle horse highlander and Tahoma field knife and cooks set you mentioned in another video
labeled as a fighting knife...do a 'forged in fire' bone chop...that steel looked grainy...heat treatment ?...an all black K-Bar in 1095 Cro-Van and Kraton handle runs $64 at 'Tomar's'.....have a great day....
Hey Brian! I'm still stayin' tuned...I'll be watching the S&W Saturdays too. I enjoy all your vids. I'm wondering though, is the new company discontinuing the Schrade line or just taking it over? In any case I'll still be here, and still be mashing the like button. As always best of all things to you and yours.....
The Tanto knife didn't take the beating, and I am surprised that the Smith & Wesson took it when throwing it like that. I bet my Buck knives would pass the throwing test and they are not full tang.
Any knife can break, especially when thrown. On a different note, you have gotten that fero rod technique down. You have really gotten good striking the fero rod, even the smaller ones. I did miss the ole Fatwood though. You have had that piece of fatwood forever it seems like. A little goes a long way. Thanks Bryan, and don't change a thing.
I’ve broken two kabar “fighting” knives, I dig them but they’re garbage for “bushcraft/camp work.” Man if people aren’t saying your a shill for schrade then they’re saying you’re a shill for s&w, whats next; spyderco, crkt, gerber?
No offense but this is kinda why people don't like s&w knives. A k-bar would not have done that albeit its $75 to $100. And I am not an expert but I think k-bar does warranty their knives for throwing mishaps.
Actually, here is what Kabar says: "This Limited Warranty does not apply to any failure of, defect in, or damage to the knife caused by normal wear and tear or by improper use, including batoning with or throwing the knife, using the blades as a can opener, chisel, pry bar, screwdriver, digging tool, or for any heavy work for which the knife was not designed." And, I am in no way saying Kabar is not a fine knife. I think they are. Just pointing out that many quality knife makers recognize the potential fro breakage from throwing accidents. TOPS also specifically excludes damage from throwing from their warranty, as I'm sure any other high quality knife makers do.
Wow. Well if I didn't have a lot of money, I would buy one. Really not a bad knife for money. But I have a ka bar well really two and some Becker knives. They are great. If your just starting out its a great buy, and I' m not saying I wouldn't buy one. Their are a few SW I'm going to get. Bryan your not a sell out so stop calling your self that.
Ha! Way back in my college days I had a 'book' by Blackie Collins called 'knife throwing; sport survival & defense." He extolled the virtues of the Ka-Bar USMC knife as a throwing knife. I got one. In all the time I dabbled with knife throwing my copy never shattered like that. (And I never achieved your level of proficiency) I agree with you though that it qualifies as abuse.
It broke because he threw it over and over against a tree. Why does that make it junk? I threw my Glock against a tree to kill a snake at the range because I left the clip on the shooting table and went down range unloaded. And guess what, it broke.
Because the Glock is quite soft that would indicate don't throw knives... Here the SW broke because it hit guard first: The guard focused the impact on the "step" to the tang...
"CKSUR" = Sucker...as in, "For $25 you could get a knife with great steel like a Mora, but you bought our cheap made in China knife instead.". Just my opinion, of course. But in all fairness, neither these knives nor a Mora is a throwing knife.
Survival On Purpose - I agree totally, Bryan. Yet for all intents and purposes, you are using these knives the same way I use a Mora. Ain't it great we all don't think alike?? 😉
Umm Hmm I just knew 1 of 'em was gonna come unglued Good Test either way, Bryan Don't 4-git to wind back yer clocks & Check them Smoke-Detectors ATB Ter God Bless
These look just like our nations great Ontario and Ka-Bar knives that have been knocked off by Taylor brands (S&W & Scherade made in the CCP quite possibly in labor camps) no thank you. S&W should save their name as they make great firearms. I suggest a Ka-Bar Extreme with D2 steel - it will not break when you throw it and has the same style of tang - just better made. Survival is worth more than $25.
Saturday knife "Throw Off :) I think both are quite cool looking knives.Traditional Ka-Bar-ish design. Seems to have the same sheath that comes with for example SCHF9 and others. For 25$ knife the Rescue Clip Point is nice. Both are. Fine for fire and food prep and other camp tasks. If one spends only 25$ for a knife they most likely do the job just fine. The clip point probably even better. Especially combined with a hatchet and used just for cutting they should last for years. So well worth the 25$ I would say. For example "Leuku" ( Big Sami knife) is a beastly tool for the intended use of it and it is a rat tail tang( usually wide one tapering towards the pommel) like all traditional Scandinavian knives . Haven´t heard Leuku commonly break. None of mine have. ( Lol, not even the ones I have forged and heat treated myself) And I have used them quite rough. Naturally after various amount of abuse any knife man made eventually breaks and one surely can not expect that type( rat tail tang) of knife to perform well as a crowbar or heavy batoning. That is a job for a full tang knife. Great video as always Bryan :) Always enjoy watching them! Big thumbs up!

Me too!!!
Is it schrade or S.W.?
A friend of mine broke my Sog seal pup elite when his throw landed flat like yours. I threw that knife 100+ times with no issues. My friend throws it once and it breaks.
Stuff happens
Had that clip point blade for years now. Goes everywhere I go
Thank you for the demo.
What do you mean it's not full tang? It sure looks like it goes all the way down to the end and is pinned in place, exactly how Ka-Bar USMC knife is?! Am I wrong?
I think they call that a Rat tang or tail? It’s just not large enough to be called « Full Tang »
Right Bryan. These knives are fine. That was a lot of abuse for knives not designed for throwing. Any make with a 90 degree cut stick tang will break eventually.
Yep
Watching failures is strangely more satisfying than watching something perform successfully.
The Train Wreck syndrome
I have Smith & Wesson Extreme ops and HRT ( Hostage rescue team ) folding knives made of 440C steel....I must say they are very good, especially HRT knife.

Thanks. I appreciate it.
Keep up the great reviews. Mate you are straight up and I love it.
For $25 not a bad camp knife at all. Hey, if it does the job you need it to its a good knife regardless of brand.
I agree
For about half the cost of a standard Buck 119 it's not bad. I would still rather have my 119 though.
Buck makes a nice knife
I like a diamond stone for touch ups.

Cold Steels GI Tanto is a way better deal in everyway imo. You won't break it throwing it either. :)

It didn't break at the stick, it broke in the blade just forwarded of the guard. That tells me it would have done the same even if it was full tang.
Another fine and entertaining video as usual. Thanks Bryan!! ;-)
Thanks Charles
NIce review.
Do you think the k bar combat fighter with that same tang design would hold up better if thrown due to the use of better steal? I would think so.
I don't know. They specifically say they are not warrantied against throwing damage

With a different sheath

If ya had some kind of flag you could fly when you start your review, then if you break the knife in balance testing, you could fly the flag at half mast.
The k-bar knife is about $65 on Amazon today.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Knowing that the overall design of the blade won’t break when it unevenly strikes the target at an acceptable velocity tells me these knives are well worth the money, unlike some ka bars out there.
I just got the Smith and Wesson homeland security tanto hara in Canada it's 179$
I understand that you review budget friendly knives for us but they're are better low price knives better then s&w I honestly don't like them because of the edge retention and blade steel I work for a construction company and I've had some knives snap. Awesome review. The Cold Steel Tanto (full tang who likes a rat?) would be in this price range but i think would out perform these knives. Thanks.
I'm sure it would
I just thought it would be interesting to see top 3 survival items with the Priscilla and schsp1 and rugger 1022 takedown combined with battle horse highlander and Tahoma field knife and cooks set you mentioned in another video

Good backup blades .looked like steel failure .rather then tang
labeled as a fighting knife...do a 'forged in fire' bone chop...that steel looked grainy...heat treatment ?...an all black K-Bar in 1095 Cro-Van and Kraton handle runs $64 at 'Tomar's'.....have a great day....
Again, it's $25. Probably not "forged in fire" compatible
...yep...I was thinking more about it breaking, too see if it would stand up to the shock of a strike vs. being thrown...just a thought...
If the price is 25 $then go ahade & buy 2 . For tanto shape put 5 $ extra & go for Smith and Wesson SWF603 (tanto on Steroids )
Thanks!

Skunk? What skunk?
@@SurvivalOnPurpose 9:57 of your video. It's there and then it's not. I tried to post a screenshot but can't figure out how to do it on here.

I have seen lots of pictures of broken Kabars on the old internet. And I dig them too.
I don’t think it makes much difference, either one will break if you throw it hard and miss a couple of time
GOOD review Bryan :) as always
Thanks. I appreciate it.

can you do a video where you combine your top survival items with your top 3 zombie weapons that would be an awesome video
Not really into the whole "zombie weapon" thing. But it might be fun

Survival On Purpose oh right!.. so the old friend has returned
You should compare it to a Glock 78 or Glock 81.
Hmmm.
there is no comparison between this knife and the glock,he could throw the glock all day without worry, its super tough;-)
I prefer a Glock 17 Auto!!!

It broke because he threw it over and over against a tree. Why does that make it junk? I threw my Glock against a tree to kill a snake at the range because I left the clip on the shooting table and went down range unloaded. And guess what, it broke.

Had it been a Hi-Point you would have been better off throwing it as you'd be more likely to kill the snake lol
Because the Glock is quite soft that would indicate don't throw knives... Here the SW broke because it hit guard first: The guard focused the impact on the "step" to the tang...
Sounds like that was a horrible idea.
I totally agree with you!! If I threw a Glock against a tree does it make it junk?? Some of these guys on here are morons clearly!!
Shave the broke one down and make a shorter full tang knife from it
Good video but not interested in either knife.
All righty then ;-)
Don’t throw stick tang knives with lower quality steal my Ka bar and m16 bayonet are my favorite throwers

Compare that S&W to anoth S&W (tanto tip) and if it doesn't break then we will learn something!
hmmm
Oh no! Lol
Indeed.
In no scenario will you or ever should though your knife. It's pointless and not an effective way to use a hunting knife
Maybe lighten up a little. It’s just good, clean fun.
@SurvivalOnPurpose the video was entertaining for sure just saying I don't see the practicality of throwing a knife
wont break on a body haha
Smith & Wesson just uses their good name in firearms to sell cheap knives and other stuff. Same as Browning
I think the heat treatment is bad and the knives are junk....and this kind of reviews (S&W junk knives) are bad for your channel.
YOUR opinion!
All righty then ;-)
You clearly don't know how to make a true quality knife then!!! What do you malke them out of, Play-Doh?!??
