A better target set-up is to find a log that is big enough and cut a "cookie". Basically a really short piece of firewood if you will, and mount it up there. Your knives or axes will stick into end grain way better than edge or cross grain. You'll never go back once you try it.
I'm glad you compared knife throwing to any other adult fun activity and not a defense skill. To me, throwing a knife is about as effective in a fight as throwing a gun.
Totally agree on the game of darts for big boys. After throwing for years, the amount of throws gone wrong… throwing knives would be a poor weapon for defence.
I’m currently practicing throwing knives, i’ve been trying to learn by myself without really getting help. And funnily enough the way you do it is the way i thought in my mind made sense. But i swear it’s always the 3rd one that never goes in 🤣

I'd love to know what your favorite brand/shape/kind of throw knives are and if you have a particular dislike in any kind or shape of knife. thank you for taking the time to make this video, it really helped me!
You do an awesome job of making the procedures clear and easy to understand. And, as a great teacher would, I love that you say things several times so it sinks in. I just purchased three [3] sets of three [3] of the exact same knife (black) but, I still need to construct a target board. I was going to turn 2x4s side-ways [12 side-by-side and 24" high] as well as put longer ones [for legs like yours] but, I think your board would be easier to construct. Nice job!!
And like you said every throwing knife or hatchet has its own sweet spot and you got to find it, yes I don't know that the spinning throw yet but I throw just like you let it tumble end over end, you're offering good solid advice.
I have been throwing for many years, I do not throw by the handle majority of the time , .. So with a 9" knife, and holding the blade I can throw from about 5 to 12 ft by adjusting the position of the knife in my hand, all single spin and I can tell you I put shoulder into it. Not just sticking them but burying them in the timber. Of course you can not use a sharp edge knife or you will skin your own hand. ps if your followers want to throw but do not have knives , just get a 9" bar of half inch steel and point it, make a few and the fun begins. Its great therapy ( good video Thanks )
Thank you sir. I got a set of throwing knives and hatchets for Christmas but I have no clue how to throw knives. This helped and I’m super excited to start practicing!
Thank you so much for this video! I found it very helpful in that you actually show yourself throwing the knives, and the technique used. Other videos i researched tell you what you can google and read for yourself...but they do not show themself throwing it and barely even show the weapons hit the board..they weren't even showing how it was thrown..only said how to hold it. You took the time to Show both how to hold it , and throw it. Thanks! 😎
Good stuff! I was glad to see no wrap on the handles, mine came with p-cord and it was not helpful. Natural grip and release was also a very good takeaway that helped me improve immediately
I hate to tell you this brother, but US Infantrymen and Rangers and SPECOPS from all US military branches carry those knives. I have seen many a combatant with throwing knives in their kit. So, they are definitely great for self defense. I was an infantryman. I didn’t carry throwing knives but I carried a tactical combat machete and and tactical combat hatchet. Though it's quite late to the party on my part, as someone who likes to figure out things on their own, knifes are just as important as technique and using knives with most of their weight and width on the blade portion of the knife are not as effective when it comes to straight throwing with no spin. Handle heavy knives may have more weight on the back, but that actually helps maintain stability while the knife is flying through the air. A handle heavy knife is used for distance and accuracy like a dart, meanwhile blade heavy knifes are used primarily for their stylistic throws.
