When I was younger I used to dream about a place that I would sketch out on paper with pencil and it was Crags and flat cliffs along with a castle ruins. The first time I ever saw this place I fell out of my chair literally I cried for two days this is the place I've been drawing ever since I was a young girl. And I still don't know why. Thank you for sharing this.
I'v been to Dunnottar Castles twice when visiting family in Aberdeenshier. It is a beautiful place to visit and even more so when the sun comes out ! Ps. If you ever go, be prepared for a bit of a hike, a lot of steps and a chilly wind. Dunnottar is the only place I'v been in Scotland that made me wish I'd dressed a little warmer.
Great video! As descendants of Clan Keith, two of my siblings and I just returned from taking our parents on a pilgrimage to Dunnottar from the States. This had been a lifelong dream of my father, who is 87. A magical time together in a magical place!
Funny how there are some of us of clan Keith are out there lol. My mother is a Keith though she l was born in Ireland, my grandfather though while half irish and half scottish was born and raised in Scotland as a Keith, we still have his Tartan hanging up in his smoke Den, may he rest in peace.
I have a painting of this castle in one of my bedrooms and a picture of my Scottish husband at the same castle when he still lived in Scotland as a young man. I hope we can go there soon!
I enjoy learning about this because my mother and her family are Keith's, bearing the title through the male lines from their late great grandfather; Sir William Keith
My husband is Scottish and his name is Matthew William Keith. He is related to William Keith. My grandmother's name is McBride and I am related to Robert the Bruce. We're devising ways to reclaim this castle, haha. Wish us luck.
I'm a Keith, too, and have been plotting that for years. This summer, my wife and two sons will be traveling across the pond to the Scottish Highlands. On the itinerary is taking back the Donnottar Castle. With a rush and push, that land will be ours! ...for as long as we stand on it, at least. ;)
Really enjoyed the video which also helps me understand the history of Dunnotar Castle before I actually visited the place. THANK YOU "History Victorum"!!!
My friend and I visited Dunnottar during our trip to Scotland recently and it was so worth it! It was beautiful seeing the landscape around the castle and learning about the history. Highly recommend!
Wonderful video! My paternal 9th great grandfather John McQueen was one of the 122 men imprisoned there in 1685! I read somewhere that he carved his name on the wall somewhere I dream of visiting one day to find out! Keep up the good content!
@@juzagirlntheroom2692 in france there aren't many keiths so I looked for the origin and I'm happy to be not the only one to have this name however I don't know if I'm part of the Keith clan
There was a branch of the Clan Keith in Calais where a knight of this family settled in the XIV th c. A descendant of this knight married the daughter of a rich Alsacian 'Herrebüre'( a lord-peasant, un paysant-seigneur) provost in the Kochersberg county belonging to the Holy Empire prince-bishop of Strasburg in the first half of the XVII th. C., during the Thirty Years War. The irony of history is that the origin of the Clan Keith (different selliers,Keith/e, Käth/e, Kieth)would take place in Worms , Germany, not so far from Strasburg . A branch of the Stirling (Stirling, Sterling, Stärling)family settled in Colmar, Alsace in the second half of the XVII th.c. maybe jacobites.

Why cant the goverment contact the ancesters of the old castles and see if they can fix the builings up and if the ancesters have not ever traveled invite them to the area of countryor city to see how their ancestors lived wendy
Those sites not already in private hands are usually run by the National Trust as public holdings for tourism. The cost of fixing them up would bankrupt most families!! Totally unfeasible to do more than maintain them safely as reminders of a long lost age.
There is a lot of important information here; excellent, but slow down man, you're speaking so fast that your sentences run together. Slow it down; it's not a race to get through to the end.
I have been all through this castle more like a fort from top to bottom. You can feel the presence of the suffering that went on within the dungeon. When I walked this fort there were no roads, no tourists, and no signs in the dead of winter with the North Sea haweling at your face. Look at all those tourists, I hope it has not been destroyed by humans.

Excellent journey, thank you.
Thank you so much to learn so much of my great grandfathers family was totally AWESOME! FAMILY IS EVERTHING! Love you all!
Hello, i want to know if there is any register about this "island" being surrounder by houses near the castle area ? Thank you so much
Visited this a couple of weeks ago. It seems smaller today.
Very interesting. Some buildings need a roof. When you look at the Ruïne van Brederode in Santpoort, the Netherlands, you see what i mean.
Love the history...
we have the same last name my friend
I come from the Keith clan also! My fathers side. They immigrated to the Us and the majority of my branch still live in Virginia, we are in Missouri.
