They nailed the banter vibe between the officers in this movie - to me that's what made the movie feel real. Jake absolutely portrayed his role as a former Marine - turned cop - to a level of accuracy I can't believe. I have my former Marine Corps buddies who became cops and this movie is uncanny in it's accuracy.
I've been serving as a cop for 23 years on the street and I have to say that basically everything that was filmed there is something I've encountered before. Most people wouldn't think that what they went through in the movie is basically the same for most police departments in the world. Just different uniforms, guns, cars and radio call signs. That's why the police color is blue all over the world. We do the same things in the car. We have the same problems with criminals and with the system that protects criminals from the people they serve. There's no movie that describes our job and what we do every day better than this movie. The scene where he goes into the store and buys a drink and pulls off his bulletproof vest at the cooler to get some cold... only a cop who wears that vest every day would understand that, and this movie is full of details you don't notice at first but we who have lived in it for years see them all. Thanks to the people who made this movie. My children will one day understand what their daddy did for a living.
I basically agree! BUT, I'm from Europe and if a police officer over here had to use his gun it would be ALL OVER the news! This just doesn't happen AT ALL! When I get pulled over at a traffic stop, I get out of the car, talk to the police officers, pay my fine and leave again. Never was there any kind of tension, on neither side. During a road trip through the US I got into a traffic stop and (because I was used to it) got out of the car! Holy shit! The cop pulled his gun, I froze....luckily nothing happened and we had a laugh about it afterwards. But, boy, could that have gone wrong! So, police work over here in (central) Europe is way, way different than in the US.
@@PelLihi How many police officers in Central Europe get shot at a traffic stop? Because here in the US, it is frequent enough. I am not a police officer but have seen news reports and talked to officers that have said that getting shot is very real, especially for "simple" traffic stops.

The part where the director is talking about Jake and Michael not really clicking at first but then becoming an actual duo is the realest thing. It doesnt matter who you are or how you are, when you go through shit together like academy or some tough calls, you will naturally build that relationship with your partner or coworkers. Thats an unintended detail that really sells this to me
I mean, is it a cop movie, yeah, but no. I watched this movie and identified with the brotherhood/family-like connections they all had and formed. I've served in the military. Was a professional firefighter. Even did about a year of 80 to 100hr work weeks with only a small crew. When you do shit like that, you end up getting to know people real well. People you never would see yourself wanting to get to know, but you have to. Cus circumstances. If you're a decent human being, you're gonna connect with people, and those are some of the deepest, closest, most fulfilling connections you're ever gonna have with someone. I’m a big fan of the way you have the footage with the actor’s & director’s commentary that actually shows and explains everything the way you would expect without hearing the sometimes obnoxious RUclipsr commentary on top of it all
Imagine he's asking you questions and taking notes. Idc what happens after that. I'm subpoena ing the department for the in car footage and keeping that shit forever.
Best cop movie ever. Perfectly captures the brotherhood of the the two. Hope they rib each other, their support for each other, and how they loved each other. I love this movie; and it always catches me right in the feels.
I remember the first time I saw this, wasnt expecting much. By the end I was on the edge of my seat and proceeded to immediately watch the whole thing all the way through again. An absolute masterpiece of film.
As someone who grew up in SoCal and frequented LA this movie is authentic. A lot of modern movies don’t have that and we subconsciously know that what we are watching isn’t how it actually is. Everyone who worked on this movie did a phenomenal job and I wish we had more down to earth movies that did what this movies does.
From the moment I saw this movie I could never understand why Michael Peña isn't a Hollywood mega star. Absolutely criminal how underrated and underused he is.
