  • I made a visit to the KC0KFL shack today and got a tour and some comments by Forrest. It was a very fun visit. He lives near Bricelyn, Minnesota along Interstate highway 90, if you travel through this area of southern Minnesota, he usually monitors the 147.000 Mhz local repeater at Blue Earth. Be sure to give him a call.

    Hi Larry, I think it is awesome that you encouraged this gentleman to get on the air! Our great hobby needs more of this!
    I really enjoyed the video interview and shack tour. The closing organ music was the icing on the cake, and it made me want to announce "all skate"! I hope to catch you guys on the bands sometime.
    73,

    just came across this video and loved it, i know its been on a couple of years now but couldn't help but comment, what a great setup he had and what a lovely man Forrest is, the world would be a much better place if the where more people like him.

    • @RadioHamGuy
      @RadioHamGuy  6 лет назад +2

      Yes he is a great man and always puts a smile on anyone's face when they talk to him on the radio or in person. Forrest is still doing great and on the air pretty much every day.

    Thank you so much for posting. I have gone hot and cold on this hobby for decades but always ended up not following through. I was afraid that I would invest a lot into it and quickly lose interest. Well, this may finally be the time that I take the test. I'm so confident that I would pass because I've studied for years! At 63-years old, I figure I've lost valuable time procrastinating where I could have been right up there with you.

      Never too late, glad you are going to get your ticket though, it has been a lot of fun for me over the years! Good luck on everything and have fun with radio. 73

    i retired about a year ago, after a long career in electronics (similar to Forrest, with emphasis on sound)! Now, I'm finally going to test, and see how far I can get on the first try. I'm studying tech and general, but extra is too tempting a challenge to pass up! Thank you for sharing your visit with Forrest. He seems like a fine gentleman, and his late start in the hobby makes me feel like much less of an 'oddball!' LOL 73

      That is excellent to hear, good luck on the test, I am sure you will do fine and never look back, so many fun things to do! Yes, Forrest is a great guy and he is still active and doing well and having fun with radio! 73...Larry

      @@forrestdelunger7716 ... Late last November I did, indeed, test for and pass both Tech and General! Currently studying for Extra, and that, as you know, is a real 'handful!' Between that and building my first 'shack,' I'm keeping pleasantly busy. Hopefully, someday we can get together somewhere on HF. A real treat to hear from you, sir! Take care, and 73! W1NLJ - Norm

      @@normjacques6853 I doubt that I could pass the new Extra with all it's digital stuff. Altho, I am into C4FM a little and have a younger ham teaching me. I am 87 and content to make a few contacts on HF and on a couple of 2M nets any more. N1NLJ de KCØKFL 73

    Larry - loving the W1AW t-shirt. I have to get a new one, mine is getting ratty. I have no excuse, HQ (Newington, CT) is 15 minutes from me.
    I like watching your stuff for a few reasons. One, inspiration. I now have a fan dipole working for 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10. Another is your enthusiasm. And lastly, I have family in the Edina, Maple Grove, St. Michael, and New Richland parts of MN. It's like I'm there with you and my family. Thanks for posting. This is video is over a year old, but a joy to watch.

      Wow, you are lucky to live close to HQ, maybe I will get to visit there someday. Glad you enjoy the videos, they are fun to do! Well, I am not far from New Richland, I get up that way once in a while, I am just south of there 15 miles or so! 73 and thanks for watching, hope to have more to come soon. Radio is just a great hobby. Sounds good on the dipole also, they work very well.

  • @xavierathorne
    @xavierathorne 7 лет назад +4

    I hung in there well right up to the part where he started talking about how young people are lacking because they are on iPhones. Let me correct him by saying that internet connected kids are not missing out on socialization, but expanding on it greater than they ever have, both locally and internationally. If he wants to reach out to these young people through ham, he can't dismiss the Internet... he needs to integrate the Internet into ham.
    Another thing is, a lot of these young people don't own their own home, or have a retirement pension where they can put in the hundreds, and even thousands of dollars toward this hobby. They work with whatever they have.

      Point well taken, thanks!

    • @roo-vr5fr
      @roo-vr5fr 6 лет назад +4

      Rutger MacDonald wrong. Ham takes more effort to make contacts, and mostly you'll speak with real people, unlike the "internet generation" where instant gratification is demanded.
      Take social media, click a button on the screen to make "friends", with people you'll never see or speak too.
      The internet has destroyed the art of communication.
      And generally when people do interact, it's mainly ranting and rudeness, unlike ham, which teaches us manners and good etiquettes.
      So yes, the iPhone generation are missing out.

    • @roo-vr5fr
      @roo-vr5fr 6 лет назад +3

      Rutger MacDonald oh, and you mentioning the cost for young people of ham equipment, do you know how much smart phones/laptops/iPads etc cost?

    • @bobdillashaw4360
      @bobdillashaw4360 5 лет назад +1

      Rutger MacDonald as someone who uses my iPhone for social interaction and is also a ham and Cb operator, this isn’t even close by a long shot, not even in the same ballpark. You should try it out and get your ham license and then only then would you understand just how wrong you are.
