    I was never interested in Souls Games but Elden Ring is so fun! I'm afraid of literally everything, but I just killed a giant, ON MY OWN. Maybe that doesn't sound like a big accomplishment, but I went from dying to a sheep, to killing a giant. I texted my boyfriend all excited for the accomplishment he made on day 3 of playing the game because I was so proud of myself. I finally powered myself up and can deal damage, and have health, and now I'm ready to get out there in the game and be terrified of everything some more.

    Elden ring has the perfect approach to difficulty. From’s vision for their games has always been that the player needs to use their wits and skills to overcome the challenges in the game. Rather than adding a menu option that just decreases a bunch of sliders so you don’t have to think about what you’re doing anymore, the process of making the game “easier” is itself still an active process. If you want the game to be easier you can make it easier, but making it easier still requires player investment to determine where they should go next, should they farm, are there spells/builds that increase their chances, are their weapon/spirit upgrades they can apply, etc. FS found a way to make “accessible” difficulty that supports their vision rather than contradicting it.

    • @ManiaMac1613
      @ManiaMac1613 2 года назад +39

      I've been a Souls fan for years, and I absolutely love how they handled the difficulty in Elden Ring. Is a dungeon or boss too difficult? Just go somewhere else. Sooner or later you'll either run into the exact weapon, spell or Spirit Ashes you need to turn the tide, more upgrade materials for better damage, more Sacred Tears and Golden Seeds for more survivability, or you can simply grind until you're strong enough to have the advantage. This is something that is only made possible through the open world of the game.

It's the second half of the game where it gets harder. Even the first few main bosses aren't difficult if you use the right weapons. You cannot use same strat and expect different results that's all

It's just that Elden Ring makes finding those modes feel less like resorting to dark magic out of desperation and more like natural progression, thanks to the open world. What?! If you liked Elden Ring you'll like the Souls games. Demons Souls is the easiest by far, Dark Souls has amazing level design, Bloodborne is just so sick, Dark Souls 3 is such an incredible follow up to the first.
      I've personally never tried 2 and got a few bosses into Sekiro before deciding I wasn't ready.
      The games play so similarly that you really can just jump into one and know exactly how to play and they are all great fun in different and rewarding ways

      Hey, you can do them too. I know it sounds unbelievable. But that is EXACTLY what I thought before I, too, beat them myself. And beating Dark Souls not only changed me as a gamer but it helped me as a person. And it was super fun! Just try a couple of different approaches and try a couple of different games. I only understood how to beat Dark Souls because I tried and failed at Bloodborne. Pick whichever one looks the most interesting too you and give it a go! But if you are having trouble I would suggest you try Bloodborne. It sort of teaches people about the "secret" fun way to play these games. Also, they are very cryptic and have almost no environmental music so don't be afraid to seek out info and help, play with friends, or play while you listen to music, audiobooks, or RUclips. Seriously, the games seem hard because they are. But, they are ALSO fair..... Most of the time. I truly believe anybody who really wants to is totally capable of beating any ans all of these games. So, good luck out there! We believe in you too!

    Elden ring is great cuz it takes what's always been in souls games and amps them up. Wizard, faith, and ranged builds have always existed, but now they're stronger and more accessible. Summoning NPCs and online help has always been an option to make bosses/areas easier. But now summons are easier than ever to use and much more useful. You could always explore and get find stuff that will help you. But now exploration is more rewarded than ever. With soo many ways to approach the game, soo many viable builds, and soo many options for where to go and what to do Elden ring is the ultimate souls game.

      Also Elden Ring seems way more easier because you can engage difficult enemies at your own pace like what Matt said here. If you don't wanna fight a giant boss (that isn't a cutscene boss I bet, you can nope outta there or just completely ignore it and continue playing the game by exploring a different part of the world.
      Whereas in previous games, there is a defined path. Elden ring brings the breath of the wild formula to dark souls and it's one of the best decisions they've made. And it attracts people like me who were never really fans of their previous games. Open world sandbox games are just more accessible.

      Its nice to know for sure but it doesn't solve the issue of games being released even in 2022 with minimal accessibility support. The game doesn't need to be made easier. It needs custom options so disabled gamers like my self can actually play. Just look at LoU2's accessibility options. I'm not joking when I say a one armed blind person with brain damage can play that game. It's so inclusive. From software are one of the biggest offenders when it comes to pushing aside disabled gamers. It's not about being a noob or getting gud it's about allowing people with reduced motor functions and other disabilities to play. It's a win win win really promoting accessibility give the studio a good look, they make more money, and more people can play..

    4:22 The jellyfish's name is Aurelia! And she's wonderful! 😁
    I've seen on the Steam forums people complaining about things like Spirit Ashes, saying that it's not the way the game was "meant to be played," that they make the game too easy. It's a ridiculous thing to say on so many levels. It's a game mechanic, advertised and actively provided to the player. It's as much the way the game is meant to be played as is taking on the game solo as a level 1 Wretch. No one is forced to use all the tools available or to build one's character along a particular path. The challenge can be whatever the player chooses to take on. The other thing is that it's primarily a single-player game, so how a player manages to beat it is of no consequence to anyone else. It may not be terribly impressive, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it.
    That said, I agree with the sentiment that not every game need be accessible to everyone. Some games cater to a different crowd, whether it be in difficulty or subject matter. There are those who might find Elden Ring's gameplay to their liking, but not the setting and story. Difficulty (or lack thereof) is merely one part of a game's experience. Accessibility is not the be all and end all, except insofar as a developer wants to maximise their player base and the revenue they pull in. Not everyone's concerned with that, though. Some developers have a particular vision for a game and the only obligations they have is to satisfy their vision and to satisfy those who funded the game's development.

    Huh, so what you're saying is Elden Ring is Dark Souls, minus the bullshit that's blatantly intended to pad the game out? i.e blocking progress with a boss that requires hours of rote pattern memorization to beat, with insta-death being the result of not doing it perfectly? I might actually check it out if that's the case.

And Elden Ring is my first Dark souls game. I love that the developers made Elden Ring more accessible. I love the game even if I’m almost level 50 and haven’t beat Margit. Just because he ran me off a cliff 😂 and i cheesed the tree sentinel😂 by standing on a platform and using spells 😂 and dying a thousand times in the process.

    I beat every Souls game multiple times, mostly because I like to play through the game using “easier” options at first and then graduate to soloing every boss in counterintuitive ways in a second playthrough. There is no shame in what Shelby’s doing. It reminds me of what I did on my first ever playthrough of a Souls game. My bet is she’ll fall in love with the game so much that she’ll end up wanting to play the “hard” way on a subsequent playthrough just to get the same rush. So happy she’s finally been assimilated to FromSoft world.

      is it an easy mode when they added it into the game? spirits die pretty quickly if it istna tanky mimic or lvl10 tiche. and mgic users get one shoit if they take to long to use there spells. the game is still hard at its core regardless on the path. i feel its only "easier" to soul players because they have the memory new players dont ahve that hence why it took her 100 tries even with a sppirit

    Yes, this is how games should be. Getting rewarded for playing by being able to tackle harder enemies. Dying from things ur not ready for, so it gets all the more rewarding when u finally do kill it. And feeling overpowered once u, well, get overpowered because u spend countless hours playing. Like actually being rewarded for the time spent. U can try to do everything fast which makes it harder or go slow and make it easier for u. Choice is key here.

    I find that most of the loud mouth breathers that complain the way others play as "cheating" or "easy mode aka magic" are usually the ones who farm to be OP with a ridiculous build to one shot everything. For the most part the community is pretty chill and helpful, sadly the morons are the most loud. Watched some of the stream and it was pretty fun watching Shelby's gameplay evolve. Also it's pretty easy to die even if you're OP, get sucked and then some random ass dogs or hand spider claps you.

      The more common complaints aren’t about “easy mode” cheese strategies, ranged builds, grinding, etc.
      They’re about stuff like a literal difficulty slider that would require significant redesigns and create a radical shift in tone, plain English instructions on exactly what to do, and insulting meta hand holding that kills immersion.
      When you find an optional zone with a great weapon, a perfect farming spot, or an awesome spirit ash you feel like that was something you discovered and earned. When something like Clippy comes up and asks if you want to enable god mode right when you made significant progress on a boss you feel insulted and you’re momentum is lost.

    • @Plasmacat1
      @Plasmacat1 2 года назад +1

      @@MrBirdlady92 it breaks the intent of the game and what Miyazaki wants which is the feeling of overcoming adversity. The game gives you tools to kill everything zits up to you to use the tools or bash your head into a wall. A difficulty slider kills that, there's no story like a normal game for a story mode, having everything die easy or be less aggressive, literally kills what the game is trying to make you do. It's not about difficulty, it's about exploring, learning your mistakes and being patient to overcome any challenges the game gives you and that euphoria from killing a boss. It's like asking Kirby to have an ultra hard mode, it's not what the franchise is about.

    • @Plasmacat1
      @Plasmacat1 2 года назад +1

      @@jacobb5484 OK? That's not what I said. I'm saying the idiots cry easy mode when you use a specific weapon or spells. Like let's say you use moonveil katana and the mouth breathers will say that you "cheated" or that you're using spirits and that's for noobs and shit like that. The final bosses of this game can be beaten solo but they are obviously tuned for spirits in mind.

      Its a start but it's not enough. Im a disabled gamer, so the first thing I look for is accessibility options/difficulty settings/balancing options and controller settings. Too few dev studios think about us disabled video game players when creating a gsme. I can't praise naughty dog enough for its plethora of accessibility options. Wish more studios would stop pushing the differently abled community aside

    • @bencooper6983
      @bencooper6983 2 года назад +1

      @@HiAndHello-w9l I look for things like auto Aim sensitivities, custom difficulty options, controller settings and other sensitivities like dead zone sliders which most games do have. Other specific things for specific types of games too. Ghost of tsushima has a nice option to make the sword fighting a bit more manageable. Gives you the option to turn on a small little red light when ever an enemy goes for an attack. Since il very slow and my skill level is very low if that red blinking light wasnt an option ghost of tsushima might have been unplayable for me. Developers can't balance a game for everyone's specific needs. For example I play DL2 on hard but have to switch to medium every time I fight human enemies because their too hard for me personally. LoU2 has that covered with custom balancing options so I can balance the game myself to suit my specific needs. Its not always a deal breaker for me. For example I can just about manage metro exodus on medium difficulty. Metro has almost no accessibility options

    As a long time Souls vet, I honestly don't count Spirits as 'easy mode'. Like, yes, it does offer a helping hand, but I find them akin to NPC summons. The game is balanced around you having them, and especially with how braindead the spirit AI can be, sometimes they're more of a hinderance than a help. The only difference is instead of having a single NPC summon that may or may not be worthless, you get to choose which NPC summon you have.
    It's not like summoning people, which (ideally) results in people who know all the bosses tricks you can emulate, or how to cheese.

    • @AzNZinc
      @AzNZinc 2 года назад +1

      i feel like the entire game's been balanced around the idea that if eligible, you're going to summon at least a spirit. all encounters that allow you to summon have you swarmed a lot harder than past souls games or in spots where it's way easier for the enemy to surround you. being able to peel aggro off using a summon makes the game feel closer to other souls titles in terms of enemy density.
      except for mimic tear ash. mimic tear ash actually is just another player summon. the AI summons and invaders are quite good this time around.
