- This is episode 8 of my popular “History Of” series season 3!
For episode 8, I am covering the entire history of one of my favorite Chuck E. Cheese locations. This is a location that I’ve always had an interest in and wanted to know more about. I’m talking about the South Portland, Maine location, a.k.a. the only Chuck E. Cheese location to ever open in the state of Maine. i’m going to go over the locations history from when it first opened to when it closed and what happened afterwards.

Being on youtube and seeing a video based on a location so close to where I live is some kind of whiplash
Real
I’ve literally seen this building
Saco
@@greystripesleeps I doordash by this building almost every time I go
fr i feel targeted rn
as a mainer i can assure you, this was a chuck e cheese and it did indeed exist
too young to remember 9/11, too old to grow up an ipad kid. Born just in time to go to the chuck e. cheese in south portland
Haha same bro 😂😂
Another Maine resident that probably got recommended this video thanks to location services - lot of fond memories as a kid of both this location and Joker's. Wish I remembered more specifics but as a kid I waa just happy to be there.
I always remember Joker's as being cheaper, larger, and cleaner than the CEC, especially before they moved
I'm a local, and while CEC was fun as a kid, Joker's was goated. Sucks that both are gone, they were so much fun as a kid.
Realest comment ever
Omg so true jokers had a dang ferris wheel indoors! And surge on tap!
Its surreal hearing someone talk about my state, absolutely nobody talks about it
(Not being mean cuz I’m not but) Maine’s pretty small.
@@kyliethelittlespider-mangirl94 Safest state with the lowest crime
@kyliethelittlespider-mangirl94 come here and then say it's small, we are a decent sized state with a small population
First RUclips video essay I’ve found about an establishment I’ve visited tbh
Same here!
I'm from ME and just got this in my recommended
Same here. Midcoast Maine specifically. This was an interesting watch. Totally forgot we had a Chuck E. Cheese in Portland.
Same here
I live in the area and I went here several times as a kid. Eventually my mom stopped taking us because we got sick literally every time we went, which makes sense because my most vivid memory of this place was watching some kid throw up in the ball pit. I definitely enjoyed going despite all that, but after we visited the Joker's on the other side of town I stopped missing CEC. The Joker's was massive comparatively, and the jungle gym there is something I still wish I could run around in as a grown man. It's sad to see that they're both gone now, feels like the end of an era.
I miss this place so much my aunt used to work here, it's honestly kind of crazy to realize what was happening behind the scenes
when i was really young, i used to go to this exact chucky cheese. when it closed i got really sad...
this is so specific to me that i feel like im going insane.
Even though it was a while ago, thank you for sharing your love with Lewiston that’s really sweet :) also I lived pretty close to that chucky cheese, went to a couple bday parties there and it always gave me super creepy vibes. I played fnaf so I always stayed as far away from chucky as physically possible 😅
I can’t wait for what might be one of the shortest CEC history videos on this channel.
Damn, doesn't surprise me that there weren't many good photos of it, given the time and most certainly the location, but I will admit it saddens me that all I really have to remember it is the memories there. I've probably gone there at least a dozen times when I was a kid, still have some tokens lying around.
I can confirm a couple things if my memory serves me correctly. They did infact have the Buzzy Buzzy Bee game since you could always hear it going around the arcade area, and there were no showroom walls or artifact shelves prior to 2011. Oh, and I think there was another larger Joker's somewhere in Maine at one point, because my sister worked there shortly.
ive never gotten recommended a video about my city (i live in portland) this is so cool!
I'm near Portland ^^ hello neighbor
Holy shit I remember this place! I got pushed off the stage by the animatronic at my brother's birthday party! They absolutely had the bee game by the way.
I grew up in Saco and spent a lot of birthdays here as a kid, thank you for making this my man 🙏🏻
No wayyy bro I grew up in Saco whats up
I grew up in lewiston auburn my whole life used to go here back in 2008 2009 with my older sister who sadly passed in 2016
I still have my old photo cards from that exact CEC Photo Booth! Good times. My father would take me there and we’d play skiball and that one racing game where you crash into the enemy to arrest them. Soooo many good memories. You should do one on Jokers!!
I am super excited for this one. This is going to be great.
I don't know why this was in my recommendations but hey I have a very fond memory of this place. Hell, I was the last birthday party there when I was younger on December 2nd, the staff were somber, and it was genuinely the best franchise birthday party I could ever ask for. I think I still have a bunch of nicer photos of the whole place too.
This is my childhood location... Thank you for making a video on it.
I went into it one once for a birthday party. my only memory is it being ominously empty. I think the animatronic was our of order. I also do feel like they had the bee game, unless Joker's had something similar, as I went there more. The bees felt like a core memory unlocked though.
Ive lived in southern Maine for my entire life (24 years). I remember going to this location multiple times before it closed. But i went to Joker's way more than CEC until both closed shop.
Damn, in the back of my mind for a while I had hoped Jokers was still around.
This video was such a nostalgia trip. I only remember going there once, but I can confirm there was a Buzzy Buzzy Bee there (or something like it)! It was right between the Skytubes, the prize counter, and the dining area.
I remember going to that location where it was right near the mall when I was little. Even as a kid, it was a nightmare. We have tons of pictures somewhere of the inside, but it was just so dark. I remember the taste of the pizza (cardboard) and climbing up the skiball ramp to dunk in the balls manually. Honestly I think my family only went once or twice since it was pretty expensive. I remembered Joker's a lot more because of the terrifying old man animatronic they had for their western shoot-out game. Though sometimes I still look at that building and think fondly of congealed cheese and getting gum in my hair in the ball pit.
I also wanted to say thank you for the beginning of the video
I fucking loved Joker's as a kid!!!!
I remember going a few times as a kid back in the day when we'd take trips down to Saco to go to Splashtown. What a blast of nostalgia
Blessed by the although 7 months later. Gonna be a good one having gone there for many years as a kid.
Currently 22 remember going here as kid an coming home sick everytime
this made me FUCKING cry man i used to go to this chuck e cheese and pick my nose and fling it into the kitchen until i got kicked out
What the fuck?
@@SCOUTSnailgun You got stones in your ears?
@@Sludge_Cruncher no just saying that's really fucking weird
@SCOUTSnailgun Who are you to judge a man's grieving
@@Sludge_Cruncher that's fair
I really do live under a rock, I can't believe it took this video to inform me that Joker's shut down during the Covid-ening. I remember recess arguments over which place was better.
I also find it a crazy coincidence that the equipment went to West Palm Beach, considering that's around where my family lived before we moved up north, and is likely the location where my family took their CEC pictures.
Hah, I remember this place. Well, kinda. Only ever went there once, and only remember one thing from it. When I was little and went there for my birthday, I climbed up on the stage with one of the animatronics and had my parents and probably others yelling at me to get down. If that ain’t straight outta Five Nights at Freddy’s, I don’t know WHAT is!
lol that’s crazy I also went there for bday parties when I was a kid and always got the creeps. and yeah, that place gives off serious fnaf vibes
I miss it already. It was gone too soon. I've been there once, fun place but I miss that they replaced it with sephora or sm :(
I'm watching this right from my house in South Portland! lol Nice to see all you locals here, too. Fun fact, a friend of mine actually played Chucky...Chuck E, however he wants me to spell it, back in 03/04. Good times :)
And I'm ready Nathan let's see the first video of chuck e cheese in maine
Oh my! Yes, I too am living in Maine. I’ve been here for my whole life, mind you. Greetings from Portland!
Childhood memories… I really do miss this place. I was thinking about it when a friend brought it up recently and recalling memories!
Thanks for sharing your video.
I'm 18 now, I completely forgot this place existed lol. I went there a lot with my family as a kid
A classic, but Jokers was the wave.
JOKERS! FROM AGES 1 TO 92222222222222…..Jokers family fun and games, FOR THE KID IN YOU 👇 shout out to the lazer tag. Kissed a couple girls in there in middle school 🤣
God I miss jokers, that place was the shit.
Jokers when it had the jurassic park shooter game was the best
We just got around one in Arizona. It's a pretty cool place. They have all sorts of new games that I've never heard of
Wow, this just unlocked some memories of mine. I actually remember going here as a kid. I remember taking pictures in the booth, along with other things. The animatronics did creep me out though. Not sure why, but there was just that uncanny valley feeling to them that made me feel uneasy.
Viewer from Maine nice vid I live by bangor
Old town?
Ok so I live in maine not a very popular state and seeing so many people that live or used to live is so cool
I Can’t Wait For This!
As someone who lived in South Portland for 7 years, thank you for this
THANK YOU FOR THE NEWINGTON NH REFERENCES, my childhood location
I’ve been waiting for this moment to happen finally someone’s going to do a history video on the infamous Chuck E Cheese location in Aurora Colorado where the shooting happened in 1993 of Nathan Dunlap.Ever since I found out about this incident I was wanted to know what the history of the location is the only thing I know about it is that a is showbiz pizza place that had a three stage. also this month 1993 the incident happened so it’s turning 30 years old. here’s my question are you going to release the history video On the day of the shooting happened 30 years ago
Not the video but the trailer will be released on the anniversary
@@NathanSpies OK. this will probably be the most highly anticipated CEC location history video i’m so excited for it the only thing I know about it is that It’s currently a Panera bread
@@NathanSpiesit would be cool if you did a history video on all cec locations in colorado, there's not much but i think it would be enough to fit into a history vid
I'm looking forward to the next video! I've talked about the murders and that location, as well as watched the documentary that talked about what happened and even had an interview with the killer, victims' families, and it's a tough one to watch, but also gives alot of insight on what happened. There's also an episode of the podcast called Back From Broken where the gf of the killer was interviewed as well as more details were shared. I just hope that whoever watches it respects all who were involved (except the killer) and no comparisons to a certain game franchise is made
I feel very sorry for the people of Maine that their one and only CEC shutted down due to a petty lease agreement issue and thus they have to go out of state for some rat pizza enjoyment.
Ahh, the memories! I only been that location once when I was a kid. It was amazing! Just wish it was still there. ;-;
Amazing Video! But Happy 500th Videos Nathan! :D
Bro the toddler zone incident happened on my 7th birthday
Went to this location in 2011! I lived 2 hours away in central Maine but I begged my parents to take me there for my 11th birthday. I broke my arm the month before so the pictures feature me in an American flag arm cast. Good times.
Hey Nathan can u do a history of the California Racho Cucamonga cec location. It was my local one back when I was a kid
oh man I definitely have an album of pictures from 2008 when my friends and I went there for her birthday
Can you please do a history video of my favorite fast food restaurant mascot?
Only took about 15 years for me to watch a video about the city I live in. Ah well, that’s Sopo for you
Hi man! So excited for springfield and new hampshire!
2023 has just sucked for us including people in Portland (RIP)
I only went there a couple of times when I was little and I hardly remember it. All I remember is playing in the sky tubes (or whatever theyre called). I remember my parents complaining about how expensive it was lol. And I remember asking my mom if we could get pizza, and she said no. I didn't recognize any of the picture in the video, except the sky tubes photo and the photo of the outside of the building. I wish I could remember more
My Chuck E. Cheese?! IN MY SOUTHERN MAINE?! FIRST OF THE FIRST. And yes I’m a local. I’ve only been there once when I was a child, before I was a teenager.
You should do the history of the old toysrus store in south Portland maine
The one near cracker barrell?
Hey Nathan can you do a History on "Chuck E. Cheese In Kedzie Il" it was a Showbiz
You should do a video on the Douglas Scott Sr. Case in Casco Maine! The man’s daughter was found in his shed only after he died of Covid. She was missing for a while and he said if he found her he’d kill her
That was fast.😳
I never went to Chuck E Cheese but I was friends with a couple guys in highschool that worked there
I remember when we lost this Chuck E. Cheese I was 4 😢
I never went, but I could only imagine the fun the kids had. I loved going to Jokers as a kid in the Auburn Mall; I miss that place.
I didn’t grow up in Maine, but I’ve been living here for a long time. I loved this so so much as I never knew!! Love the channel, keep it up (:
Maine mentioned AGAIN (I've been to this Chuck E Cheese's)
I live in Columbus ga and my local chuck e cheese had the three stage animatronics but instead of having the actual three stage format, they were all on one stage. Since they have the 3 stage animatronics, I assume it used to be a showbiz pizza but I can't find any information as of now. I drove by it recently and saw that it now has the new logo so chances are the animatronics in there are no more.
yeah Columbus received 2.0 back in April of this year
I didn't even know that there was a single Chuck E. Cheese in Maine. We don't have anything here
Obviously cuz it’s Maine (Joke don’t take it seriously)
@@kyliethelittlespider-mangirl94 yeah
WAIT MY LOCATION HAD A PORTLAND ANIMATRONIC???? WHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT
now i’ll never forgive them for turning my location into a 2.0
Are the pictures in the “History of” videos screen recorded? (I saw the Q and A and it it you said you began using Capcut. I’ve tried screen recording pictures but I’ve only been getting black screens when I try to put them in. Normal video footage works fine tho)
The photos are screenshots
Man I remember going there. Dont really remember much since I was pretty young and I have a very bad memory overall, which I guess is unfortunate cause from what you’ve said it you don’t have all the details on the location
Ideas: The History of Dueling Dragons in Universal’s Islands of Adventure and in HHN32.
I used to live in North Carolina and I think the state has a rich history when it comes to Chuck E. Cheese I feel like you should delve into it one day! If one store in MainE get this treatment I feel like any location can!
Can you do Grand Rapids, Michigan next? Or maybe even Portage, Michigan or Mishawaka, Indiana?
mishawaka plzzz
This was the only Chuck e Cheese I ever went to, I assure you it was the last
Always wonder what happened to it as a kid
Granted I was 5 or 6 when it closed, but I went a few times to this location as a kid and I don't believe it had the showroom walls, I remember it being quite open. The shelves I don't think I would've noticed.
Also, there is one similar place in Maine. It's called Family Time Dine and Play, and it's in the city of Auburn. It used to be a Joker's but got converted.
Can you do Chuck E. Cheese’s in Costa Mesa ca (Harbor Blvd) because it moved their location a lot so it might have good history.
3:43 That’s SMCC!
Love that college so much I'm going there soon!!
I always wanted to go here as a kiddo 🥺
I live on deer isle but I used to live in Standish, Maine right next to Portland, interesting piece of history.....
Hi, great video, I hear the event that took place at this location happened when I was born, on Janurary 7th. Just a coincidence for me. Keep up the good work.
Haha I went to this but jokers was way better
truth
Damnnn you just brought back memories bro
It's a good thing that CEC emerged from bankruptcy in December 2020.
Can't wait!
Great that you made a CEC history video for your 500th video special though I was really hoping history of the walker location my local location
My daughter had just turned one that year and I was so excited to take her there- was so bummed when it closed, I’ve only been to a New Hampshire location before, never got to go to the Maine one. Not far from me either.
You should do bullseye the target dog next
I don't know why but every time I see old Chuck-E-Cheese advertisements and videos it makes me think of what Freddy Fazbear's Pizza would have been like if it existed in the 80s and maybe Freddy Fazbear's could have had their own Pizza Time theater location just like Chuck E cheese it would be called Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Time theater and it would have the main characters Freddy Bonnie Chica and Foxy plus one side character they would also have a Freddy Fazbear mascot costume the place would have been founded in 1979 by Steve Raglan / William Afton but of course as we know he's also the murderer of five children and that's what caused Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Time theater to close down after an incident where someone reported to see a piece of a child's finger in a pizza it was revealed that William Afton killed three children and cooked their bodies into the pizza and then the following year he would dress up in a yellow rabbit costume and murder five children in the back room of Freddy's and that's what caused the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Time theater to shut down
i use to go to that chuck e. cheese all the time as a kid. my grandfather always hated taking me 😂
That guy who pulled down his pants at the Toddler Zone is so funny.

It’s weird to think that that location was one of few locations in the New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont area
Hi nathan, this is a great video and congratulations on your 500 video. Can you do a history video of the chuck e cheese in pearland tx because i need to learn more about this locations if you could do that for me?
