  • This car had no crank and after going to several mechanics and had all its modules changed they couldn’t get it to crank so it was stripped and waiting for the scrap man to get it. I was able to prevent that and hopefully return this Aussie Icon back where it belongs on the road… I will be video documenting most if not all the progress….

Did a manual swap on my auto, replaced everything except the BCM, (at the time didn't realise it needed to be replaced.) and it did the same thing, just continued to crank. Went back to the wrecker i got my manual swap from, got the BCM, plugged it in. and Volia, all was good. Also, double check all earths are connected to the engine block, as this also caused dramas starting, 1 earth not torqued down and it wouldn't start. And, if the car starts randomly running rough and stalls out refusing to start, well check you error codes and i bet you one of your injector plugs is damaged. solder that up and shes all good. Alot of little things i've learnt working on my 05 VZ.

Thanks a lot for your advice however I’ve exhausted all avenues and it’s the ECU that needs replacing. Should be happening soon as I’ve gotten a donor vehicle just need a nice day. Thank you for your support….

I bought a VX 5.litre SS Commodore years ago with similar problems. My mechanic nephew diagnosed 1 problem after another but none fixed it. Even a new ECU. My last resort was a complete wiring harness. I just gave up on it. I already had 2 other Commodores. A VN 5.0L with similar problems & a VS 3800 V6 Ute, which I still own. Repairs & clean up happening pretty soon. Great Car! I love that 1! Too good to sell, especially as it sits now. I & my dog live in my 2007 Hiace LWB, mid roof with the 2.7L petrol engine. Also a great Bus! 700,000 + km on it now. Had to remove the LPG tanks cos it wasn't functional, for my 1st roadworthy check, in NSW.

Thanks for the advice, so just to confirm, if the key battery dies you can just replace the button housing? You don’t need to code the key?

No. If your key battery dies unless you can unsolder the old battery and re solder a new one. You will need a new remote. You can get them from Bursons and program it yourself providing that your car was unlocked before your key stopped working. Part number for the programmer KF200 and new key KF205.
