People really give you a hard time about it watching the video weeks/months later? Here in Oregon we have salmon/steelhead regulations that require a PHD in Law just to understand, and I don't often see people whining about closed seasons (our quota-based system can open/close multiple times within a "season"). Kinda interesting, honestly. Do you have a physical address we can send things to? I want to send you a couple of better descenders we use here often. A shallow-er water one, and a deep water one. Because it's Christmas and there's a better mouse trap to be had.
A great watch as always John.♥️ What a magnificent wrasse.😲 Love your respect and care for the fish.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A nice mixed catch, but missed not seeing a dogfish.🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing your skills and tips.👏👏👍👍 Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
John i have recently re-started sea fishing after a long break ( about 40 years) and i have been totally inspired by you U-Tube exploits. The re-education i have learned from your fantastic videos have given me a new thirst for fishing, The workshops on rig making and boats fishing sessions have re-kindled my desire to get back out fishing and i wanted to thank you for all you do and the lessons you so happily pass on. Thank you. And please keep doing what you do its amazing. Mick
Mick, I am really stoked to hear you are excited to get back fishing again and am so pleased that our videos have helped you on your way. Good luck and let us know how you get on mate. 👍🏻🎣
Good afternoon John 😊 even though you only got the one fish to take home....it was worth it,more would be nice but it was such l lovely day calm and quiet day.l could of fallen a sleep on your boat that day. Definitely had a calming affect on me lol.Wishing you and your family all the very best and taking this opportunity to wish you a fabulous Christmas and good health and lots of happiness in 2023.....not forgetting great fishing, stay safe dear friends 🌱🌱🌱💞
Second time around. I found it very interesting the way you revived the wrasse, you understand fish so well. I would never have thought any of that, nor would I have known what to do.
Another great and entertaining video.Brilliant Wrasse you looked well chuffed with that and rightfully so. Thanks for taking us with you. I don't know if you know that a large size hyperdermic needle is great for decompressing fish, you can hear the air coming out wait until you cant hear it before you remove. Love to you and yours.
Never seen a wrasse so big, well done you. Despite the mixed areas you fished those Bass were so impressive and I hope to see it featured in Jim’s kitchen. Thanks for the valued tips and information you share with us all. Take care John👍
What a great little session in lovely conditions. Stunning Ballan too. Great little disgorger and neat descender trick too. Great stuff and Tight Lines.
Thanks John, excellent vid as always. Had two shore session where I am from round the coast to you, nothing caught but a pleasure trying. (from the guy that spoke to you in the supermarket a week or so ago 👍).
A fitting end to our bass open season John 👏 Meanwhile - bass landings into Newlyn between 29th November and 14th December total 11 tonnes. Average size of fish grade 4, so approx. @1.5kgs ... 7,000 plus bass.
I know you were complaining about the sun the entire time, but the weather was absolutely splendid. The clouds were really really really stunning. Stay safe fishing
A good day out despite not getting a pollock, that lovely bass and wrass more than compensated you though. I know that I've said this before but back in the 1950s and 60s we had a completely different approach. We'd have kept those two smaller bass and released the big one. Way back then there weren't any size limits for sea fish or closed seasons. Hope that you got to collect James on time. That fish will taste lovely, I'm jealous.
Them bass was awesome!!!! Haven't had the opportunity to go fishing in a wile really miss it. Loved seeing you use that disender as well! Briliant video as always tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
A lovely video to watch as always John but not one of the most productive days for you. one nice Bass found your line so better luck next time. Hope you & all your family had a good Christmas. Have a safe & happy New Year. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
Yet again John cracking video I’ve been struggling to get out on the boat in Pembrokeshire wales. My plus side was I caught my first ever squid last night it wasn’t a monster but me and the daughter have tryed hard to get one. We were so happy got it home and the whole family tryed it and ate it. I’m buzzing so happy 🙈
hello John another nice video to watch and a wonderful end to the bass season they should also set that here in the Netherlands I think it's just a period of rest for this beautiful sport fish there are still some caught here but most are here left so we must waiting for next season but winter has replaced it cod and dab and beautiful whiting this year 40 cm and more are also caught from the beach so you can enjoy that too I found another nice video to watch until the next one and if it doesn't happen anymore, very nice Christmasdays to you and the fam greetings Willem

Very enjoyable and very educational. Much appreciated mate. Wishing you and the family a wonderful Christmas & New year. Cheers Graham👍👍🥶🥶🐟🐟🐟🎣🎣🎄🎄🎅🎅
Well done John, certainly not a straight forward session for you mate, can tell you had to work hard on this one,but very well rewarded with the bass (yum!) A donkey of a wrasse was quite a sight too 😂. Your efforts are appreciated bud👍🏼👍🏼
Great video mate. Nature more often than not always has a solution to using nasty chemicals. I will be back out tomorrow in the river estuary at Yarmouth. Whiting and mackerel fest at minute. Just hoping for the cod to arrive. - 5°c tomorrow Going to be, a cold one. Thermal long johns on.
I definitely understand wanting a larger fish. As you said you was going out for some freezer fillets. And with two smaller but legal Pollock one bass that you sent back. If I was going for freezer fillets they would have been coming home with me.
I love watching you catch lots of fish but there are days when you hardly catch anything but that is life,it is how it is.And it's good to see you still show the video unlike some channels when they only seem to catch lots of big fish and never have a quiet day.Keep up the good work and i hope you and Hannah and James have an amazing xmas.
Nice to see someone catching something other than Ting & dogs. Fished my favourite super secret local mark from low to an hour after high last night, had a record (for me) 33 whiting & 10 dogfish. Got so tired of leaving the warm van to reel in ting ended up putting on some huge 8/0 pennel baits out of nearly whole cuttlefish or 3-8 baby squid lashed together. Did you know you can catch a whiting and a dogfish on one 8/0 hook?
A beauty of a bass john, but what a stonker of a wrasse.love the way you put it back and showed how to do it also.well done and tite lines as always.best wishes to all the family.take care.
Every aspect of your channel is class John. From the trips out to the beach combing and the cooking. I’m not far from you and can’t wait to catch a few fish from your estuary next year and from the Dart estuary too. Keep em coming. 👍Thankyou.

Looks like a bit of a swell came in during the day. Probably some okay waves to surf at the beaches. You should get out there, it's quite a good time. As soon as you said "ex live bait" Monty Python popped into my head. "It's rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-parrot!”
A great video as usual John and what a fine wrasse you caught along with couple nice bass pity you didn't get your pollack mate, your videos are really great viewing many thanks
Nice couple of late Bass bud, and always good to see a large Ballan wrasse, always great colours. Good little session, well done. All the best to you and family.
Yes but the saying for matching your lure to what the fish are feeding on is still called “match the hatch” as fish still hatch from eggs do they not? 😉
Nice trip, I took my dad out on the 30th, we had 3 nice ones between us, so a very happy and memorable afternoon. Since then I've mostly been targeting pin whiting on big baits, success rates are quite high with the odd Ray and huss, luckily no decent codling pestering me yet👍
Such a relaxing video! As always! We do get a lot horse mackerel and mackerel here in the North Adriatic (Croatia) but we mostly catch them for food, rarely for a bait.
Very nice to share your knowledge & experience. I had heard of just puncturing the air bladder with a small gauge hypodemic & letting it go back down - supposed to heal quickly & no harm?
Hi John, Barotrauma also happens to the eyes, as well as the swim bladder. Looking at that wrasse, with the eyes popped out, it is unlikely it would have survived even after being sent back into the deep on a dropper. Just saying this so you know that such fish are better kept in the fish box than released.
Used to fish wrasse on the prawn boat on my day off on the Isle of Skye, good money to be made back 8 years ago, also working on the salmon farms it’s a horrible way to bring fish up but the way they trying to improve with the wrasse there trying to

Nice couple of late Bass bud, and always good to see a large Ballan wrasse, always great colours. Good little session, well done. All the best to you and family.
Thank you very much mate and best wishes to you and your family mate. 😊👍🏻
Good one John, not my favourite, good luck, regards to the family. regards from Cyprus. 😍😍🐟🐟
Thank you Jacqui. 😊
Another fantastic video, ty.
My pleasure Graham. 😊👍🏻
"Match the hatch" ... using my fly-fishing lingo are you ? Insects hatch and bait fish school - haha ! All the best
Wow. That is fortunate for you. 🤣
Great video as always, ty from Denmark
Thank you. 😊👍🏻🐟
Nice fish enjoyed the video as always John
Thank you Dawn. 😊👍🏻🎣
Such a relaxing video! As always! We do get a lot horse mackerel and mackerel here in the North Adriatic (Croatia) but we mostly catch them for food, rarely for a bait.
Mackerel are a good eating fish too. 😊👍🏻
That looked a hard session. I bet that bass tasted good
Not been eaten yet. We’ve been too busy it’s been vac packed and is awaiting a special occasion. 😊
You weren't the only one that was lured out (pun intended) by the nice weather!
Cheers Dan. 👍🏻
Very nice to share your knowledge & experience. I had heard of just puncturing the air bladder with a small gauge hypodemic & letting it go back down - supposed to heal quickly & no harm?
For deep sea fish that doesn’t often work on its own.
I have seen fish with worse recovered and swam back so it was worth giving him every chance.
Great vid and I learned something which is always great .. Nice weather also...
Every day is a school day mate. 😊👍🏻
Nice fish there ! Thanks for taking us along, always interesting 👍
It was my pleasure. 😊👍🏻
Another great vid have a good Xmas!!
Thanks Rhys. 👍🏻
Excellent video. I learn so much from you.
Glad to help. 👍🏻🎣
Well done John ....as always very enjoyable to watch
Cheers bud. Not an easy time of year to find the fish so it’s good to find a few. 👍🏻🎣
@The Fish Locker true John we struggled out there last week
But still a few squid to save the day
great vid
Thank you Nicholas. 😊👍🏻🐟
Used to fish wrasse on the prawn boat on my day off on the Isle of Skye, good money to be made back 8 years ago, also working on the salmon farms it’s a horrible way to bring fish up but the way they trying to improve with the wrasse there trying to
Yes. I agree.
Love watching your videos mate, nearly as much as fishing, not yet had the chance of fishing where you are, i will get there though, hello from Pickering and i'll see you in the next one!
I might bring the boat up that way in the summer mate. 😉👍🏻
Always enjoy your videos John question what’s a scooly bass excuse the spelling 👍👍
I small bass. They are called schoolies because they hang around in schools.
Can't wait for Christmas ✌️
😊👍🏻🎄
have you ever thought of an all black float I use them for bright days coarse fishing
Yeah. I use them for Pike fishing. Not really bothered with sea fishing. 🤷🏻♂️
Some nice fish there J🤪ohn
Cheers bud.
