My takeaway? Don't get drunk, don't get mad, don't fall in love, don't look like you have money and don't be stupid. The first time I went to a place with bar girls / gogo dancers, I was stupid, and I fell in love. Fortunately, I had done my homework, I managed to keep my wits about me enough to tell her that I was out of money, and she vanished on me. After that first time, I was never that stupid again. I think every guy who has gone his whole life with no female attention will be completely unprepared for that first time. It's something you've got to experience and get through, and hopefully, nothing really bad happens to you.

I know there are some popular places but it happens at bars in NYC also... tourist have to be careful unless you are with a tour group which can minimize the risks.

Same dangers that have always been there (although some seem to be happening more often). Pattaya has changed immensely! My first trip there was in 1996, and it was much safer back then, although even back then, you still had to use common sense.
