Clark Kent is a man who can see and hear practically everything in the world. Every crime, every act of cruelty, every single one of humanity's worst aspects. He can get it all and much more than anything even the Internet can put up on our screens and on our phones. And yet for all of that, he _still_ somehow manages to see the best in humanity, _somehow_ manages to keep his faith in us, and _always_ thinks we're worth saving.
That's an amazing aspect of his character no matter _what_ time period he's in, but it feels especially poignant these days. If there's any one thing I want from the DCU reboot's Superman, it's for them to really show his relationship with humanity. The DCEU had him be a lonely god among us. Let the world see him as a friend who won't give up on us even at our worst.

For me, my favorite version of Superman is the DCAU version from the 90s and 2000s. It's just what I want in a Superman story. Despite everything he's been through in that series, losing Dan, getting brainwashed, tortured, beaten, and even losing the trust of mankind, he still defends the Earth. Not only that, but this Superman gets to fight on several occasions what I believe to be the best version of Darkseid ever made, bar none. Their final battle in the Legacy episodes was awesome and what Darkseid tells Superman is just so memorable. Even though Superman freed the people of Apokalips, they still chose to help Darkseid because he is their god. Plus, unlike Lex, who has teamed up with Superman several times in multiple iterations, Darkseid is virtually a constant foe for Superman. Their both flat characters which gives writers so much creative freedom not only for the two face off but, in the case of Superman, it makes his adventures and actions interesting because of how he stays true to his beliefs and stand for truth, justice, and the American way.

@@kamjb0801 thanks, I also want people to see the value in the flat character. Where the character changes the world around them and the world does not change them. Darkseid in the DCAU is an great example of a flat negative character where he changes the world and universe around him for the worse while Superman, a flat positive character, changes the world around him for the better. Their dynamic is as epic as the battles between Goku and Frieza who are also positive and negative flat characters, respectively.

In a lot of the really old comics, Superman didn’t really have any super powerful villains to oppose him. His enemies were usually gangsters, or during WWII nazi spies. They would empty their Tommy guns at Superman with no effect, and then find themselves tied up with lengths of steel bars.
The gangsters didn’t start getting a slightly more even playing field until kryptonite was introduced. Then the gangsters would “just happen” to acquire some kryptonite in order to get the upper hand against Superman.
Even when the story’s villain was a mad scientist who built a giant robot to attack Metropolis with, or caused a regular animal grow to kaiju size and attack Metropolis, the robot/giant creature was never powerful enough to truly be a threat to Superman.
I used to have a whole bunch of really old Superman comics. My mom used to love going garage sale shopping, and would often buy me a bunch of comics. These were often really, really old. As in the original price listed on the cover was anywhere from $0.05 to $0.25, while the price of the comics at the news stand was $1.50 at the time. So yeah, they were pretty old (and usually a little beat up, people weren’t as into comic collecting back then as they are now).
So I can see how some people can see Superman as boring, especially when they’re old enough to remember the “good old days” when he had very little to fear from the villains he faced. It’s not until more recent times (maybe 40 years or so) that there have been villains who are nearly as powerful as Superman, if not more so.

While not the same threat level, Toyman (1943) and Prankster (1942) were also golden age villains. There were also The Archer and The Insect Master...his second serial had the Spider Woman and his radio show had Atom Man and the Clan of the Fiery Cross. His rogues gallery was getting developed early on. The main source of the idea that gangsters and random mad scientists were his sole early opponents is mostly from the George Reeves TV show and a little from the Fleischer cartoons, and from people like Bruce Timm saying he didn't have much of a rogues gallery and after the first 6 or so it was just gangsters so that's why they created villains like Livewire, Luminous, Mercy, Volcana, etc. for the 90s cartoon (though some one involved in the Justice League cartoon that followed apparently actually read Superman comics, because suddenly Mongul and Warworld and Ultraman [more or less] and Doomsday and Atomic Skull and Silver Banshee and Bloodsport showed up).

A great video showing love and respect for Superman. I honestly love and respect Superman too. He's my all time favorite superhero, and while I do think his powers are cool, the best thing about Superman is how he uses his incredible powers to help people and try to do the right thing. At his core, Superman is just as human as any of us. He literally represents the best of humanity because his humanity comes from being raised by normal people who showed Clark that despite all the bad in the world, humanity as a whole has the capacity for good. Superman is literally a reflection of humanity, which is why I flat out hate Zack Snyder's take on Superman, since Zack just made Superman a byproduct of cynicism. Also, side note, in BvS Superman doesn't have beef with Batman because their mothers have the same name. That's just misinformation you are spreading from 8:28 to 8:31. Otherwise I agree that Zack's films ruin Superman's reputation. I also don't like the concept of an evil superman and how it is overused at this point. People just think that making Superman evil makes him more interesting, but I think that opposite. I think that Superman is more interesting because despite all his powers, he wants to help people because he cares. It would be easy for the powers of Superman to corrupt anyone, but Superman doesn't let his powers compromise his morals. He uses his powers to not help people, but to inspire people to be better. That's what makes him interesting, and makes Superman the greatest superhero.

If he helped win the war, he would be seen as a mascot for Nixon and the American government, if he fought for the Vietcong than he would be seen as a traitor. Bringing troops home also would be a troublesome image because parents of the troops would say "If you were here than there wouldn't be a war" or something like that. Either way, he can't meangfully help.

@Ajit Adonis Manilal Granted, that's the case for a lot of other superheroes. They are Superheroes because they can be more places than one but he doesn't succeed every time. There are instances where he was too late to save Lois, his parents, his friends and had to deal with the guilt of failure.

@Ajit Adonis Manilal He didn't act then because either decision he would've made would've been the wrong one. Look at what happened to Dr. Manhatten & Comedian in Watchmen. He got heavily involved in the Vietnam War and granted Nixon a third term, by doing so, he proved himself to be a puppet with strings. It led to him becoming a Nihilist living on the moon and led to Comedian to end up dead. That is what would've happened if Superman got involved. Any decision would have been the wrong one.

I especially hate this cynical attitude that a man so powerful could never be good for long and would end up corrupted eventually. The great thing about Superman is and has always been that despite his god-like powers, he is a chill and humble guy. He is not one bad day away from snapping or taking controll or killing everyone.

Comics have been deconstructed over and over since Watchmen. No hate on Watchmen, but it started a nasty trend. People have fallen in love with all these shades of grey. Which, I get: we live in a brutal world, dog eat dog and it's nice to see someone lash out like we want to. The deconstructed superhero allows us a break, an escape from brutality by putting it into someone's hands that's on our side for once and Superman is not that.
The problem is, when you wallow in the mud, you forget what it's like to be clean, to want a better place. We need a reconstruction as seminal as Watchmen. Kingdom Come tried, a few others have tried, but we haven't quite hit it yet. When someone succeeds and we get a story that lights our imaginations up and makes us demand a world like Superman's to explore again, he'll return to guide us.

On an embarrassing note as a kid the genius of this scene flew over my head. Because I didn't get why Clark would just out himself as Superman like that, and I didn't get why Lois didn't believe him.
But as an adult and a writer I just got what just happened. The writers were demonstrating that it's not the glasses that cause people to not believe Clark is Superman. It's his behavior.
Superman presents himself to the public as this selfless and good natured individual who helps those in need. This version of Clark meanwhile was mild mannered and snarky.
And yet a lot of people overlook that aspect.

It isn't power that corrupts, it's wanting power that corrupts.
A person who doesn't want power who doesn't crave it, will use it for others. A person who wants power, will do anything to get it and to keep it.

The problem with videos like this and their comments sections is that it's all choir preaching. Anybody watching this will know how great Superman is.
I do find your suggestion of "Secret Identity" interesting since it's not actually about Superman, but about a kid in the "real world" who has the misfortune of being named "Clark Kent" and how he deals with getting the powers of his namesake. (Don't get me wrong, a GREAT story and all.)
My own recommendations for great Superman stories would be...
-"What's So Funny about Truth Justice and the American Way?" (Or "Superman Vs The Elite" in video format)
-"Superman/Shazam: First Thunder". (I love Love LOVE the reaction Superman has when Captain Marvel confides his true ID to Superman.)
-"Superman Rex" (Actually, not sure on that title, but...) It was never collected in TPB or anything, but the story was from the regular Superman comics in the late 90s or early 2000s. It was about a villain named "Dominus" manipulating Superman" by making him think he was somehow gaining prophetic dreams. Basically, if Superman had a bad dream about a train wreck or something, Dominus would make it happen. This caused Superman to stress out so he had more bad dreams... ravage, rinse, and repeat. Eventually, Superman loses his mind trying to save everybody all the time. He creates an army of robots to help him protect the world in the most well meaning tyrannical way possible. The Justice league turns on him and even tries to kill him with Kryptonite from a GL ring. This is (in my opinion) the best "Superman goes evil" story ever because it isn't actually him going evil, but him staying true to his nature to protect people but those intentions becoming corrupted to the point of well meaning tyranny.
-Finally, I know a lot of people are fanatic about "All-Star Superman". While it's not my favorite, the scene where he talks a girl off the edge is epic.
And lastly, to paraphrase from fanfiction.net.
They aren't called "Captain Heroes" or "Iron Heroes". Nobody talks about "Bat Heroes" or "Spider Heroes."
They're called "SUPERheroes." And he's the reason why.

I don't think the public's perception of a boring Superman began with Man of Steel. It began years before in the late 80's/early 90's. This was when darker, violent and edgy comics were selling like hot cakes and Superman just couldn't appeal to this new standard.
Also one of the best selling comic book stories at the time, the Dark Knight Returns, had an unflattering depiction of Superman that has him as an obedient lackey of a corrupt American government that clashed with and lost to the rebellious and brooding Batman. Not necessarily a good showing of Kal-El's true character

Wouldn't he fly through her and thus think he just obliterated doomsday almost immediately. There's a panel of him strangling her in space but she should have just been pasted if Superman hit her with the force he'd hit doomsday with. That's the kind of scenario you'd use to get Superman to fight wonder woman

    *TL:DR*
Since I've been reading Superman, Superboy & the LSH, Supergirl & Batman Comics since the mid 1960s...
I would NEVER say that Comicbook Superman is boring... (Sometimes his writers are, but that's a different issue)
What is true however is that because he is over-powered, _and this causes some of the writing issues,_ there's very few believable plotlines that can viably threaten the main character...
... An alien intelligence (12th level?) that wants to add Earth to his collection of defunct civilizations.
... A less moral Kryptonian Army officer that wants revenge for what Kal-El's father did to him.
... A scientific prodigy, ego maniac that inherits his father's wealth [2nd richest man in the USA] and wants to rule. (Using the wealth to create scientific marvels to level the playing field a bit.)
... A magic using trickster from another realm (Think Q from Star Trek but a bit less reasoned out)
    That's it...
    So
... An Alien Super intelligence, that refuses to learn & keeps coming back for more punishment! *(Believable?)*
... A Kryptoian General that's locked in the Phantom Zone, but still manages to get out "somehow"! *(Believable?)*
... An ego maniac that once he becomes President, outlaws Superman (Huh?) *(Believable? He's achieved his goal so not really.)*
... The trickster never gets bored of being a loser. *(He's an eye dee ten tee **_[ID10t]_** )*
The one exception to all of the above: Darkseid...
And I quote from my memory of the 1980s: (it may not be exact but it's close!)
Superman: "I don't know why he keeps coming here, when he knows I'm here."
Orion: "He doesn't come here because you are here. He comes here inspite of your presence, because there's something here that he desperately wants. The Anti-life equation."
    ... ... ...
Desaard: "Aren't you worried about all the super heroes on Earth?"
Darkseid: "The only one that worries me, is the Kryptonian. If he were to ever put aside his ridiculous moral code and bring all his power to bear The High Father & I combined would not stand against him." [Noting that the moral code was instilled into him by Jonathan & Martha Kent.]
*Wow, when I started this I didn't think I was going to write an essay!*

As you said DC fans of today who say Superman is boring and all that crap are just too damn cynical and don't really know him as well as they think. They just haven't seen his whole history starting with the classic comics and movies. They be hating on him because of his powers but he's always been more than that, it's also his humanity and what he's always represented as the world's greatest superhero...hope truth and justice! There were also times when he didn't have his powers and still proved himself to be quite a survivor. Also alternate world versions of Superman like INJUSTICE makes fans get the wrong idea about him too and they forget that he's NOT the actual Superman! Furthermore they think they can't be inspired to be more like him and that's why they be too focused on Batman who while he is the world's greatest detective he's also all about despair arrogance and justice coming from the darkness and that's really not a good inspiration like Superman is.
See no matter what I still say SUPERMAN will always be the world's greatest superhero and number one in the DC universe!

They had no way, thus Zod would've continued his rampage. "As a Kryptonian on Earth, you only have 2 options: Conquer the World or Save it." He is a farm boy from Kansas first and foremost, drawing his ethics from that. I love him for it, and I love his ability to hold to his ideals when tempted. He is a good man, no matter what. It's why I hate all the bullcrap "what if Superman was EVIL?!?" taglines, vids and shows. In the modern day, so many cannot understand why a man can hold to their ideals and be a good person in the face of adversity.

The animated movie on injustice was garbage and should be ignored.
But the comics try to give justifiable reasons for why he took over the world. Several other superheroes like Wonder Woman were wanting to cut loose and stop being so passive about everything. On the other hand the world faces several external threats that force superman to the extreme again and again without stop not giving him time to reflect. With any of the heroes who would normally try to talk him down just saying "he's evil now. Gotta kill him"
And in the injustice 2 comics may of superman's actions prove justified. The president of the USA gets assassined by one of the "heroes" who fought against superman, aqua lad, to prove that most who fought against superman were only trying to userp him. The league of assassins essentially becomes a superpower in its own right. Super criminals kept in check now have free reign and batman is unable to do anything, more focused on making sure that Superman and his allies are no longer a threat.
The world is just one bad moment away from getting destroyed without anyone's interference

I am lucky in that my mother was friends with the original Lois Lane Phyllis Coates, so I was introduced to the early George Reeves Superman when she gave us her vhs copies of the movie and the part of the show she was on. So I liked Superman early on, And Christopher Reeves was still Superman when I was a small kid so he was the Superman I knew. Then I got the comics and DCAU. The only Superman portrayals I wasn't a fan of came when they started making live action Superman without Christopher Reeves.

Lex Luthor is easily one of the best villains ever created, he has this "mind is superior to strength" thing, which is something absurdly brilliant, Superman's greatest enemy is not a super powerful guy, but a simple man with a great intellect, and that's brilliant.

Superman is written inconsistent as far as him being op. Ffs they act like Batman can actually dodge or even tank a hit from Kal. He's my number 1 and I read the hell out his comics but he suffers the most from bad writing

People who say Superman is overpowered clearly hasn’t read the comics or watched the 90s animated series.

Superman was always my favorite Superhero and it amuses me that people call him boring or overpowered while excusing the fact that Batman has BEATEN Darkseid.

Remember people always find a way to tear down those they are jealous of because of their own insecurities. They don't have what it takes to learn and grow so they tear down. He's a reminder that we can always do what is right (I won't budge on the not killing thing Jason Todd is right criminals like joker need to be put down, and two face, scarecrow, etc. but not shoplifters. Darkseid too). Killing the joker is not wrong it's wrong if you kill an innocent big difference.

Batman is a multi-billionaire with the knowledge to build some of the most complex gadgets in the world.
Wonder Woman is from an ancient island populated by women with godlike proportions and strength.
Superman is a farmboy from Kansas who just wants to do the right thing.
    And people say he's unrelatable.
