    I feel like immersion isn't important to you. For me I want the immersion and find the story pacing great. I'm an avid fantasy reader. I'm ok with Wordyness. Anyone who has read Tolkien, Robert Jordan or other like authors are used to over explaining. For me the writing is what attaches me into the game. The combat is fun but if I just wanted combat I'd buy a console fighting game. I'm here for the whole presentation, the character interactions and the story. Because of that this game is a 7.5/10 for me. I'd rate it higher but the limited world access, and the schedule are draw backs for me.

    The difference between level 19 and level 33 is SO different. it's like an entirely different game. Even the storylines? Like the Zhu Yuan one was the only part I didn't skip cuz the writing just immediately shot into the stratosphere somehow. I guess that in itself is a criticism, theres too big a gap between super early and midgame that might put people off too early

    ZZZ has been a blast so far! I remember seeing one of the first videos you guys did on ZZZ! I also remember seeing MrPokke do a rally commission and he agreed that there is no way you can just simply button mash through that fight. He barely survived that fight and thought it was amazing.

    I think the inputs commands feel better than almost any other game and it’s been fun learning how to move around let alone swap cancelling, applying elements and comboing/timing moves. People saying the combat is just attack and dodge don’t understand the mechanical depth put in. Whether the game requires this level of input remains to be seen but I’m having a blast.

    • @shinnyshin7792
      @shinnyshin7792 2 месяца назад

      Two problems: 1) What's the point of mechanical depth if you don't need to use it and aren't rewarded for using it. 2) Isn't a lot of that mechanical depth put into specific character kits? That means you have to get lucky and pull the right characters with depth, usually 5 stars. Getting those characters requires luck and grinding and is what makes the game start to get good. A lot of people aren't going to want to spend time and money in the hopes they get a pull that will make a boring game less boring.

    • @akostarelas
      @akostarelas 2 месяца назад +1

      @@shinnyshin7792 1. You’re definitely rewarded for using it, you get to chain combos and feel stylish and learn even if there isn’t much threat of dying in the early story, also being good allows you to push harder content in the game which exists from level 30 onwards. You should play Dark souls if you want to be one shot by bosses in the early campaign. 2. You can have fun with just the free characters. If you don’t get what you want, it doesn’t matter because you’ll get most of the 16 characters just finishing the story and you’re bound to find someone you like if you just experiment.

    I think the biggest critcism about the game is the fact that the game advertised itself as just this all the time cooky action game and when the life sim parts start, people feel like they're not being put in to the game they were being sold. But the game is pretty great. Also writing is solid, I don't get why people groan at the writing so much, Each chapter is essentially a loosely connected trigger anime. There IS emphasis on the greater world setting, but the main emphasis is the characters and how they interact and change through the involvement of the proxies or jobs they take. It's a very well done small scale story that I think a lot of people seem to not understand is a good thing. I'm so tired of grim derp gacha game settings where I need to wait 2-3 years of slow updates to get some form of closure on characters cause their story line is 4 chapters away cause it was vaguely foreshadowed in this lore video. Chapter 2 is about belobog being just as much of a family as a company and it ended withj koleda openig up to the people who raised her and a giant robot fight. People are so devoid of genuine affection in their writing nowadays that they need 3 years of torture porn to even feel warm and fuzzy.

    The TVs I get. The idea is the MC is not actually there. They are controlling the bangboo who is leading them through the hollow. The MC is at the computer and leading them through with virtual controls. So the TVs is how the game reminds us. I wouldn't mind if they actually let us control the bangboo at times and let us see through their eyes vs using the characters, that would be a fun change up. I haven't minded the TVs but I am glad it's less than what was in the beta testing.

    I have to disagree with your opinion about ZZZ having terrible writing. I do agree that Genshin and HSR to an extent have too much poor yapping (but Penacony had some pretty high quality yap) but ZZZ has improved from those criticisms and contain really good dialogue that if you skip them all you're honestly missing out. ZZZ is the FIRST gacha game whose story actually engaged me thoroughly. ZZZ follows the "show don't tell" far FAR better than GI and HSR does thanks to the comic scenes and cutscenes. In GI and HSR all you get are the 4 same animation types which gets really boring quick.

    I like the TV but the screen moving left and right during the dialogue makes me dizzy. It is bearable if it happens a few times per tv session but most of the long one is not. What they improved the most is that the dialogue and story are smoother than their prior games. It is less cheesy, and not too cringe.

    I don't get people who don't get the negativity. It's obvious if you don't buy your way out of the problem--you yourself pointed out how fun Ellen is. I quit out of painful boredom at level ~28 because I felt like an adult trying to play a game for five-year-olds. Base game complexity is minimal--all depth is from character kits. Characters that add meaningful depth and fun are overwhelmingly 5-stars. Not all 5-stars are fun. I pulled Koleda and she's too boring to play this long--and because of faction synergy I don't have a good team for her, which feels awful. If I'd pulled Grace (loved her in quest), I'd probably still be playing now. I'm not grinding months or spending to turn a boring game into maybe a less boring game with luck.

  • @ChannelRaznoff
    @ChannelRaznoff 2 месяца назад

    I think a big reason for the hate is the tribalism found within gachas as a genre. There are so many EOSs for failed gachas that players tend to see bright, new gachas as a potential EOS for their favorite. Even within a company's own catalogue you'll see this pop up. A lot of people who hate HSR are Genshin players.
    I think another big factor was Wuthering Waves releasing just before and having combat that feels more enjoyable and complex right out of the box. The writing, voice acting, and cutscenes start off very shaky in that game, but towards the end of the first arc and especially once you hit the new island in 1.1, all of that gets way better. The pacing for the story is also much better in WuWa than most areas of Hoyo's games. I say this as someone who enjoys HSR a lot and is up to date on everything in the game.

    I finished all standart Shiuy Defense stages. 10's Stage piss me off so much, coz ult dps check ptw system not allowed you to complete this stage with crap DPS characters like S0 Anton/KIDO/Corin, you need at least S3 Ellen/Soldier 11/Grace for smooth run without no hit rng perfect dodge run's
    (coz dps CHECKING ult checking phase- fuck y so hard) - this is real time bomb, that will detonate when vast majority of skilled player's will meet 10 Shiuy Defense stage and suck big HoYo stick.

    The only reason it gets any hate from me is because they said it was an action combat game and I was expecting a fun little dungeon romp based on what little footage I'd seen. Instead I spent less than 20% of my play time controlling my gacha characters (that's not an exaggeration, for my own curiosity I timed it and was actually closer to 15%) and only in tiny bite-sized sessions as the rest of it got swallowed up in TVs, loading screens, transitions, dialogue, cutscenes, wandering about town, eating noodles, drinking coffee, navigating UI, doing daily tasks of photographing cats... the list goes on and on. All the extra mundane tasks piled on it just drive me away... it feels like the devs were terrified of the players being on any one thing for more than 2 minutes in case their attention wanders :P
    I see that later in the game (around level 25) you finally get 'Rally Missions' which are what I actually wanted from the game, but I can't be bothered putting up with the rest of the game to get there (I didn't reach them in the 6 hours I put in) and they're just one-shots, so once you've done all the Rally missions you're back to shorter sessions of playing the characters again with all the downtime between them.
    If they'd advertised this as a visual novel or 'slice of life' game with combat as a side activity I'd probably have had more realistic expectations and just been all "oh, guess this isn't for me" but instead I thought it'd be more of a fighter/dungeon crawl and got myself wanting to like it :/
    Some people are bizarrely defensive about this title for some reason so let me pip some of the usual replies to the post right here:
    * I don't just hate the TVs. I hate the mishmash of general downtime between combat. I don't have ADHD so I prefer a solid, fluid singular activity to invest my concentration on over being sprayed with lots of small, 'bitty' ones and one shot mechanics.
    * I didn't mention the difficulty so don't bring it up
    * I didn't mention the quality or depth of the combat system so don't bother bringing that up either, I'm well aware of it.
    * I didn't compare it to any other games, only on it's own merits so don't bother complaining about other games to me either :P
    * I don't care if ANY game gets better later... I still have to play the content before it gets there and if that's something I find intolerable I'm not going to do it, nor should you expect anyone else to. You haven't 100% finished everything you've ever played before dropping it so don't set expectations on other people you can't even follow yourself.
    * I didn't say the game was bad, I merely listed the reasons it's not for me. Chill. If you like the game then that's great! Please continue to do so :D
    Obviously if none of the above bullet points apply to you then cool, but I've seen some of the same things constantly brought up out of blue because people seem determined to argue with what they want me to say rather than what I actually said sometimes :P

      If your looking for the quick dungeon romp you could play PGR or aether gazer or HI3. Personally those games always felt tough to get through cus it was just text cutscenes to simple easy stage. To get through the story to the actually grind parts. ZZZ creates an immersive world. But in the end they will all end up as stage grinding. ZZZ just gives a more interactive story

    • @Geminosity
      @Geminosity 2 месяца назад

      @@jaymeeduhh PGR and HI3 don't really do the dungeon romp thing though. As I outlined: I want to actually run about as my characters, not have instanced timer rooms separated by UI or the like. Rally missions in ZZZ itself blatantly prove they could've done the story in a genuinely more interactive manner as your characters instead of abstracting it out to UI and TVs.
      I'll take a look at Aether Gazer some time, assuming it's not another instanced timer room game of course :3

      @@Geminosity the games I mentioned are similar arena combat game. You could probably get a better experience from an open world game or gacha. Unless you mistook this genre for something different these kinds of gachas are majority loading into arenas to fight bosses and difficult mobs in the endgame.

      @Geminosity 2 месяца назад

      @@jaymeeduhh Well, again, if you want to see what I want, just watch footage of a Rally mission in this game. That's literally what I want from it and they put it in here... 25 levels worth of unrelated content later :P
      The fact that the gameplay I wanted is somewhere in this game indicates it wasn't entirely unreasonable for me to expect to find it... it's just that for some reason they have all this other content they've buried it under that they didn't market very well.
      The setting screams it was set up for Rally missions: the ever-changing hollows and the investigators who go into them to find stuff. If that's not a set up for a good dungeon romp I don't know what is XD It doesn't sound like a very 'bunch of isolated arenas' setting to me.
      I'm not interested in single instanced arenas unfortunately. That's why I didn't play Honkai 3rd nor PGR, because they very clearly advertised what they were and are consistently that from start to finish.
      Open world is ok but I wanted something a bit more contained and potentially replayable... again, I wanted the Rally mission gameplay :P

      From what I remember and understand from ZZZ's special program, the developers said they plan to change the TV system into a proper rally commission in the future. In my opinion, they might have added the rally commission mode to see the players reaction to it since they didn't have enough time to change all of the TV system since the last beta test was close to release.
