@Sandy Lee How slow are you expecting a base model car to be? This car is faster than sports cars of the early 2000s. Are you thinking mustang or Ferarri? I know I'm a year late, but I got a 2020 Civic Sport sedan with a 6mt back on January 26, and I love it! I drive between 60-110 miles a day, and I really like this thing. It's the 8th car I've owned, but the only brand new one. My previous car was a 2002 Cadillac Deville DTS. This Civic gets great mileage, especially compared to the 3 V8s I've owned(96 Grand Cherokee 4x4, 97 Grand Cherokee 2WD, and the Cadillac). Going from California to Arizona, it averaged 35.3mpg, cruising between 75 and 85mph the whole way, and a lot of that is uphill. I'll see what I get going back home where a lot of it is downhill. I finally realized with this video that the Sport trim is more than an appearance package, but also has suspension upgrades. That does make me feel better about getting this instead of an LX out of my own cheapness.
I just got a 2020 sport sedan automatic a week ago. I really like it. I have a Grand Cherokee too but man they love gas. Since I’ve got the civic I have only drove the Jeep once. Hope you’re still enjoying yours. This is my first Honda and look forward to having it for a long time.
@@reginaalear I'm still enjoying this Civic! Today I took a trip from Moreno Valley, CA to Pismo Beach, and got over 37mpg during the entire trip. It's still fun to drive, and a great all around car.
I’ve had 5 Civics over the years. I still have my first one which is a 95 EX 5 speed with 282,000 miles and it still runs great. Honda keeps me coming back.
Nick Ahhh I had a Si 8th gen and it’s my favorite Civic so far. My 8th gen Hybrid had battery issues so I would stay away from that one. I had zero mechanical issues with my 8th gen Si. The K20 is a gem.
In my opinion The base needs 150hp The Sport needs 200-220hp The SI needs 260-280hp Type R needs 330-350hp Yet Honda underpowered the whole line up because “reliability issues” and they think it’s still the 90s where 200hp in a hot hatch is enough.
Bought a 2019 Honda Civic Sport with manual transmission less than a month ago. Runs like a dream. The gear shifting is sporty with short throws. Love Honda!
@@hilife9495 can't complain about the speed when you compare it with other cars in the same segment. The acceleration is good though you can find more pickup with the 1.5L turbocharged engine. I prefer a naturally aspirated engine since I'm hoping to keep it for a long time. Overall the civic rides like a bigger and more refined car.
Bought a brand new 2020 sport sedan with the 6 speed manual transmission on New Year’s Eve. Wanted a reliable daily driver so was set on finding the N.A. 2.0 port injected proven engine and a manual transmission. (Not a CVT or direct injection fan for reliability). Was a bit harder than expected to find a 6 speed manual sport sedan but found one close by in Modern Steel Metallic which is a great looking color. Very pleased with this car for a daily driver, should last awhile! 👍🏻
For those asking for more horsepower on the si, it doesn’t need it, I own a 2019 si and before that had a stage 2 GLI, and that thing was fast as hell, but the SI could still beat because it handles better, I have to slow down less on freeway turns and it’s suspension is better equipped for darting between cars at high speeds, horsepower isn’t the only thing that makes a car fast. Also the civic maintains a low price point and good fuel economy and excellent features. It’s not all about hp numbers boys
Thanks for taking the time to discuss and drive the Civic Sport Sedan. I am in the process on deciding what to buy and the Civic Sport Sedan and the Civic Sport Hatchback are high on my list. I just wish the hatchback had the same interior as the sedan.
Guys will gripe about the power. But there's just something great about driving a small underpowered compact with a great manul transmission that handles really well. I got the Si coupe, and just so you guys know, the hp numbers Honda put out are underrated on the turbo cars. Not sure on the non turbos though.
I owned both a 2016 LX (manual) and a 2017 Si. The K series engine in the LX (and now this Sport) is a traditional Honda high revving engine that is anything but base. The Si makes torque down low and definitely in the mid range. This normally aspirated engine is still fun and refined. This is a great package especially with the suspension enhancements.
@J C GenX's 2.0L 6MT is very resilient against noob drivers. Even the most dense can learn on this car without doing any lasting wear and tear. It's not easy to learn, but when it become easy to drive from working out some brain cells, you get a car that is significantly better then the CVT.
@J C Yes, it is easy because the clutch is supper light, it took me awhile to get used to it when I first bought my 2017 Civic because my Accords clutch is heavy. Also I would stay away from the CVT because I know two people whose CVT went out around 60k and I would get the sedan Sport or LX vs any of the turbos because it will be more reliable in the long run because my Civic has issues with fuel dilution.
J Fazzuoli how much more fun is the si compared to the lx? Did you have a tune on the lx? Keep hearing that the 2.0 is more fun cause you got to work for the power instead of having low end and a shorter power band.
I just purchased the sport sedan today, and while it may lack turbo, it sure is fast. Maybe not SI or Type R fast, but it really hauls ass. I do wish it had Honda navigation, side cameras or the sunroof, but the Touring was a bit more expensive.
I’ve heard the 2.0 with a k tuner really makes a big difference lowers the v tech to 5600 and 22 more hp in the meat of the powerband! Also could add downpipe!
My 2019 Honda Civic sport on the highway I get average of 45 mpg they are comfy they are not quick off the line but awesome handling and they are safe. Definitely budget friendly on gas using plus burns a lot better in my car. They are quiet and the paddle shifters are quite nice. Lights I wish were the leds but I can’t complain with my lights because it gives my car a sleek look. Trunk space is amazing and has plenty of room for leg room. There are three cup holders in the car center two on the top and it slides to reveal a hidden one. Overall if you are looking to get one they are really good cars they may not be fast off the line but trust me they can pass good enough.
Great video, but correction on the Civic Sport trim. The Sport Hatchback has been around for a few years with the 180 HP 1.5L turbo engine. The Sport Sedan and Coupe is new for the 2019 model year. The wheels is the same is the Civic Si, but the gunmetal finish on the Sport trim, instead of bright silver brushed finish for the Si wheels. All Sport trim Civic pretty much have the same suspension. Keep in mind, the object of the Sport trim is like old school American muscle cars to have an affordable model with most of the performance and sport appearance items, without the cost of the sunroof, power adjusted seats and navigation. The newer radios with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make the navigation unnecessary for most people with smartphones. The Civic Sport Touring Hatchback, and Touring sedan have all the added bells and whistles for a few thousand dollars more, albeit on the sedan, it lacks the Sport Appearance trim items. The Base Civic instrumentation is nice, but for 2019, the upgraded all the Civic Sport models with the EX and up trim TFT instrumentation with the red illumination from the Sport Touring Hatchback and Civic Si, along with the Honda Sense safety package standard on all the Civic models, though I think the Si and Tyoe R does not have the latter. On other videos fir the Civic Sport Sedan and Coupe, I see so many comments that the Civic Sport Sedan/Coupe should have the Turbo engine and lots of other things like you mentioned. People don't realize there is a specific intentional reason that this model does not have the Turbo engine, and such. When I first heard about these models announced, I was not thrilled, because I wanted the Sport Hatchback. But then I realized now that the Sport Sedan and Coupe are perfect cars if you want a great, reliable, affordable and reliable car with sporty appearance for everyday use of family members of varying age. Plus, I believe Honda did not want to give competition with the Si for tuners that might get a turbo Sport Sedan. For about the same price the trade off with the 20 less HP less cargo utility of the Civic Sport and Coupe over the Sport Hatchback is that the Hatcback does not have the slightly upgraded Goodyear Eagle Sport tires over the decent Continental tires, no keyless entry, pushbutton start, and the Sport Hatchback has the base radio with 160 watts and 4 speakers instead of the upgraded bigger touchscreen radio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 180 watts with 6 speakers. If you are a tuner/performance enthusiast and can't afford or don't want the Type R, or the Si, but wants a factory sporty sedan or coupe, with decent power and don't intend to modify it much, this car is perfect for you. Plus you have a much more reliable engine that the turbos, with their related problems, including the recent oil problems with the turbo 1.5L engine. Plus, not having to warm up the turbo engine before driving gears, and cooling down afterwards before shutoff. I really like this Civic Sport Sedan, and with the 6 Speed for more reliability over the CVT, though not as bad as other brands, but will probably opt for the HR-V Sport for more cargo utility. Just one question about the actual vehicle in this video. This car seems to have leather perforated seats instead if the cloth seats with the leatherette sides, and rear seat center panel to reduce wear, and the dashboard panels seem to have a black/grey woodgrain finish instead of the black golf ball textured dimpled panels that sonevwithnthe Civic Sport Sedan. Are the interior shots of this actually from the Civic Touring Sedan?
Do you have any more info on the oil problems the turbos tend to have? It was my understanding any of the Honda Earthdreams engines have oil dilution problems. I just bought this exact sport model and I'm worried about it going forward.
@@betraytheteam This probably explains it well, and what to do if you have a car with a GDI system, including the Honda Earth Dreams engines... ruclips.net/video/VIRBsn3xfoc/видео.html
Very good breakdown! One small correction, is the wheels on these are different from the Si. They have the same design, besides in the finish as you mentioned, but the Si wheels are made by Enkei, weighing 28 lbs each. Sport wheels are produced by Asahi, weighing 32 lbs each.
I just bought a 2020 civic sedan sport with a 6 speed. That car is so fun to drive. I love it. The safety features are great, the gas mileage is great, my wife and child have plenty of room as well. Honda did a great job with this car. I plan on keeping it for a long time. My only complaint is it doesn’t have the 450 watt stereo. So I’ll add an 8 inch sub at some point.
I just purchased a used 2019 Honda Civic EX which has the 1.5 turbo. Was tempted to get the Civic sport which has the 2.0 liter engine. Really loved the looks of the sport model. Almost wish I had gotten the sport.
I have the EX-T as well. The sport is growing on me, too. I don’t like the shiny chrome on the fogs or rear. I plan on changing them to gloss black and maybe adding bigger rims.
@@SentinelEx that’s what I like about the Sport is the larger wheels with lower profile tires. Looks much better. And I wish the tailpipes weren’t hidden in the EX.
If you have a car with Earth Dreams engine make sure you change your oil earlier than normal cause the DI system tends to dilute the oil with fuel which is not good for bearings and such.
The hatch sport has been around since 2017 and has the turbo 1.5 with a little less HP than the SI. The sport sedan was only made for 2yrs and has a completely unique exhaust and much less common engine so the hatch is probably the way to go if you want to mod. I got the sedan for simplicity/reliability with the NA engine. For a cheap car, it handles really well and is fun but definitely not much HP. Lots of tire for the weight, the sport is designed to be light so that's why there's no sun roof or electric seat options.
I'm actually really glad it doesn't have the sunroof. Due to the sunroof, I don't have enough headroom in any of the upper trim levels. So the Sport is the best trim I fit comfortably in and one of the only sedans I can drive.
@@ItsFelipeA yeah my head is against the roof in the models with the sunroof. And it's like that even in big SUVs and trucks. So as much as I like a nice sunroof, I hate when they're standard on every trim of a vehicle.

In the beginning I think you mean to say 'coupe and sedan' not 'hatchback and sedan'. The Sport trim is new for the coupe and sedan for 2019 but has been available on the hatchback with a 1.5T.
It's called the Sport hatch. It just doesn't have the fancy interior and sunroof, but for the price difference you can make the Sport hatch obliterate the Si. I did.
Got my 2019 civic sport sedan 6MT last year. Just passed 30k miles and I’m so happy with it. I got mine brand new for $18600 ($22040 MSRP), never see anyone got it for a better price than mine. I guess there are just not many people interested in manual transmission in my area and the dealer had a hard time selling cars with standard.
Margarita V Gonzalez I’m around central PA. They initially offered $20500 pretax. And I just told them I’d like to have it OTD $20100, then it’s a deal. Paperwork says $18600 pretax sales price.

Margarita V Gonzalez make sure you to find a dealer that has the 6MT for a while. Sometime manuals are hard to sell. My car arrived the dealer in 11/2018 and I bought it 4/2019. They literally showed me their invoice and told me the $18600 sales price is a lot lower than their purchase price from Honda. Not sure if that’s true or not. But they just want to get rid of those non-si or type R manuals really bad. A lot time dealer can’t choose what configuration they will get and some models r just hard to sell.
I don´t understand why the Canadian version of the Civic´s Sport trim is so much better than the U.S.: Power moonroof, heated seats, power driver seat, dual climate control, remote start. I got mine few weeks ago in Toronto. Definitely the best trim of all Civic´s. All the whistles & bells plus no worries with the 1.5 turbo-engine oil dilution problem.
A "sport" trim level on the Civic is clearly just a parts bin mash up model in an attempt to capture more sales. The "Si" is the "SPORT" trim level of the civic. The Hatch "Sport" should have and should just be an "Si" trim level. Honda has fallen into the trap of American car makers, too many versions of the same cars just to appease every potential buyer out there. This is in essence the beginning of the end of the true "Si" model being replaced by a more boring version with an automatic transmission(optional MANUAL what?) that will sell better because it's cheaper and from 15 feet away looks the same to 95% of people(because they use the same wheel design and exhaust finisher). RIP Si.
I think you forgot to remark out one of the most important points among the competitiors: The overall HOT LOOKING. I just got a Coupe Sport 2019, and that was pretty much the reason I didn't go with Mazda, or even KIA Forte Hb. This ship looks AWESOME and AGRESSIVE and at the same time PRETTY as F*CK.
My 2020 coupe sport is my first Honda and sports car (say that lightly) yes the hatch has a turbo with more power but tbh the 2.0 that we have isn’t too bad just wish it had maybe 15-20hp from factory but a Ktuner is enough to make it better
Broken Fuel Gauge over priced for what you get. I mean BASE starts at over 20,000! For what? No Touch screen No sensors No power seats No INTERMEDIATE WIPERS No nothing! Ford 20,000+ (I bought a 2 year old one with 30k on it for 16,000)
WOW I THOUGHT THE SPORT PACKAGE CAME WITH THE 1.5t TURBO ONLY BUT YOU CAN GET IT WITH 2.0 NA MOTOR WHICH IS PORT INJECTED NOT DIRECT SO NO CARBON BUILDUP ISSUES WOWWOW MUST BUY ASAP
The Sport Hatchback and other Honda Civics have the Turbo 1.5L Earth Dreams engine. The Sport Sedan and Coupe have the non turbo, normally aspirated 2.0L engine. My original comment explains what I feel is Honda's objective for both the Sport Hatchbacks, and the different target consumers that the Sport Sedan/Coupe is for. As I mentioned earlier, I originally wanted the Sport Hatchback when it first came out, and was not enthused with the initial press release about the Sport Sedan/Coupe, but as explained, now realize the Civic Sport Sedan is actually more ideal for me now, for what it has that the Sport Hatchback does not for about the same price, and the 20 less horsepower is a nominal tradeoff for the greater reliability, durability, longevity, and absence of the turbo related potential problems, and extra care, especially on start/warmup and cool down/shut off, especially after hard driving. The power of the non turbo 2.0L engine is more than sufficient compared to many other cars in its class, and Toyota has finally added comparable HP to their otherwise great, but previously underpowered Corollas. If you want more power, and plan to modify and tune your Honda Civic, and are aware of the extra maintenance and potential increases wear and related issues, the Sport Turbo Hatchback or Si may be for you.
I just got a sport sedan a week ago. I really like it so far. This is my first Honda vehicle. I normally get Toyota but they are just too outdated with technology. My husbands 19 doesn’t even have android auto. My only complaints with the sport is there isn’t any xm satellite or rear fold down drink holders.
Not sure why they didn't give the Civic Sport sedan the same power plant as the Sport Hatch. It's got the same 4cyl as the lx models...come on Honda! lol
Because then there's almost no point in buying the Si, since a $400 tune will make the Sport 1.5T walk all over the Si 1.5T, since they are slightly different motors.
The Si itself is budget. From what I can tell up here in the north east, they aren't selling to well, so if you want an Si, just get one. I'm sure the incentives would take care of the difference.

I was going to buy this car, but then the acura dealership called me back first about the ILX i was cross shopping and i ended up going with the ILX. In hindsight, i should have probably waited a little more and gone for the civic.
Honda has never been about brute speed. You can put more power in them easily, but they are usually meant for turns and tracks. None of the Type R’s had more power than their competitors. Maybe Honda builds them this way so the consumer can make the car how they want it.
For almost that same price you can get a sport hatch 6 speed. What’s the difference? 180 hp and turbo charged with 16.5 boost. IF you’re looking for performance and want a cheaper alternative from the si which is just a few hp difference.

@Nick Ahhh 8th gen Civics Si or not are really stable cars. I'd be 100% comfortable buying one. They're great!
Just bought a 2019 Civic Sport 2.0 CVT. Loving it. Got it in March 2020
In my opinion
The base needs 150hp
The Sport needs 200-220hp
The SI needs 260-280hp
Type R needs 330-350hp
Yet Honda underpowered the whole line up because “reliability issues” and they think it’s still the 90s where 200hp in a hot hatch is enough.
>Still the 90s
Man that is so accurate. I love Honda but I'd rather go for a Lexus/Acura for the extra HP, luxury and features.
to be give credit where it is due, the type r performs great how it is currently powered.
Devin Bender the only “hot hatch” they sell is underrated at 306 crank hp. The SI only comes in sedan and coupe.
Putting 350 hp through the front wheels is practically pointless
You can't have that much power at the Civics pricepoint. Simple economics
Bought a 2019 Honda Civic Sport with manual transmission less than a month ago.
Runs like a dream. The gear shifting is sporty with short throws.
Love Honda!
S. PRASANNA Venkatesan does it pull? I know it’s only 158hp. But how’s the speed ?
@@hilife9495 can't complain about the speed when you compare it with other cars in the same segment. The acceleration is good though you can find more pickup with the 1.5L turbocharged engine. I prefer a naturally aspirated engine since I'm hoping to keep it for a long time. Overall the civic rides like a bigger and more refined car.
@@hilife9495 totally agree. I had a Corolla before this. For such an inexpensive, reliable car, the power's great. If you want a race car, get an si.
Billy Norris I was thinking about the SI. But it’s a bit over my budget. So the civic sport is something I’m looking at.
I just bought this exact car with the exact color I absolutely love it! It’s fast and fun to drive
Thank you for your comment ima try to get this car
Thanks for taking the time to discuss and drive the Civic Sport Sedan. I am in the process on deciding what to buy and the Civic Sport Sedan and the Civic Sport Hatchback are high on my list. I just wish the hatchback had the same interior as the sedan.
Guys will gripe about the power. But there's just something great about driving a small underpowered compact with a great manul transmission that handles really well. I got the Si coupe, and just so you guys know, the hp numbers Honda put out are underrated on the turbo cars. Not sure on the non turbos though.
TWENTY EIGHT you are dead right. The mk1 zx3 is a great example of that. Happy for cheap
@J C The Civic 6MT is very forgiving and would be very easy to learn on.
Pars S this is also why the clutch is really light
Just like Honda, Nathan can be a bit "Trippy" himself - which, of course, enables him to be a great automotive reviewer! 👍
I just purchased the sport sedan today, and while it may lack turbo, it sure is fast. Maybe not SI or Type R fast, but it really hauls ass. I do wish it had Honda navigation, side cameras or the sunroof, but the Touring was a bit more expensive.
In my opinion, THIS is the Civic (in terms of trim) to buy right now.
I'd say the si is but that's just me
@@MoistChungus I get that, but was mostly talking about the standard Civic not so much the performance models.
Idk, the ex sounds pretty good

Drop Hondata +6psi, add cold air intake and upgrade tires, you won't regret it. Readings of dyno's on this car has 200+ HP and 220+ torque.
or ktuner lol
I’ve heard the 2.0 with a k tuner really makes a big difference lowers the v tech to 5600 and 22 more hp in the meat of the powerband! Also could add downpipe!
Tbm1990 talked to a dealer. Tuning the turbo Vtechs will NOT void warranties.
I've driven the stock 2.0 - it feels really wheezy up top, like it's pulling a lot of timing. I bet a tune would really wake it up.
Damn, I might consider to lease one then lol
It may not void your warranty, but if that tune is the cause of failure, Honda can and should deny warranty claims.

Overall if you are looking to get one they are really good cars they may not be fast off the line but trust me they can pass good enough.
there's no way .
I agree with Nathan on the manual transmission. As someone whose owned three Honda's, they really do make a good manual transmission.
Good review Nathan. Keep up the good job!
The main things holding this car back are the Factory tune and restrictive intake and exhaust system. Get a CAI, Catless DP and FP and a K-Tuner.
Greg Bird Same here. I used to drive a 2016 LXP coupe with the sunroof and I just simply didnt fit.
I agree because I have the seat down all the way in my 2017 and I only have maybe half an in of head room.

Great review Nathan!
The Civic Si starts at $24,300, while the Civic Sport starts at $21,150. If it were my money, I would save up for the Si.
Honda needs a SI hatchback.
It's called the Sport hatch. It just doesn't have the fancy interior and sunroof, but for the price difference you can make the Sport hatch obliterate the Si. I did.
Corie Burk no limited slip differential is huge when it comes to handling. Under 200 horses in stock form is no bueno.

Hi Nathan, oddly enough in Canada this Sport trim does include a sunroof!!
Where are you from? Trying to get one, but cannot find anything under $21,500 :-(
Margarita V Gonzalez I’m around central PA. They initially offered $20500 pretax. And I just told them I’d like to have it OTD $20100, then it’s a deal. Paperwork says $18600 pretax sales price.
@@nicolathonathan770 Oh wow, that was a really good deal! I guess I'll just wait until November or December when dealers are getting rid of this year's model maybe I'll be lucky enough to get something close to your deal here in CA. Thanks!
The 10th gen civic is a massive car for what it is, I believe it is classified as a mid size and not a compact now
I don´t understand why the Canadian version of the Civic´s Sport trim is so much better than the U.S.: Power moonroof, heated seats, power driver seat, dual climate control, remote start.
RIP Si.
The Si died in 2011.

Kang, You nailed it exactly.
The exhaust in the back looks like an attachment for a bike hitch rack...
