I always wear my hair tied back (and preferably up) in very hot weather - it's amazing how much difference it makes having the back of your neck open to the air. I feel much cooler straight away.

I could not get my hair cut for six months during covid lock-down, so obv it grew much longer. It was shocking to me how hot it is around the neck. Might as well wear a wool scarf during a heat wave!

Yes agree! I cut my hair into a short bob last year and I really missed being able to get all of my hair off my neck when it was hot, as some of it was too short to put up without extensive use of clips. I used to think shorter hair was better in summer, not anymore! Much better to have it a bit longer and be able to put it all up.

I love cotton-linen blends...they wrinkle a little less than pure linen, have the tensile strength of cotton, and are very airy and breathable, especially when the silhouette of the piece skims the body without being tight.

Goodness, I wish I could send this video to every freaking clothing store in my country. The fashion industry has apparently not realized that summers get really hot here now, and when you go summer clothes shopping, eeeeeverything is polyester (and often multilayered). There's a reason why most of my summer wardrobe was bought on vacation in countries where people understand what to wear when it's hot out…
Also agree with the people saying to pull up your hair if you have long hair. Otherwise it'll just stick to your neck and you'll be sweaty and upsetty. Also: LIGHT COLORS. Dark clothes will just heat up in the sun super fast and who of us wants that?!

    • @wangocopperboom

    • @debbiegibson3604

Plus, clothes with that kind of lineing need to be dry cleaned.

Light-coloured and/or structured clothing requires a lining, so that the garment isn't limp or see-through. However, using natural-fibre fabrics for linings is (relatively) expensive, while polyester and nylon are cheap. That's why.

I so often fall for these at work! Only to realize 2 hours into wearing it my deodorant was no match for the fabric and it's a good thing masks are still in where I live...plus it's hard to find highly professional clothing which isn't polyester or requires a ton of care (linen would be far too casual for my work, which is kind of silly).

    • @larush3932
      @larush3932 3 года назад +1

@@thenopedetective EXACTLY! No matter how much or what deodorant I use, I have to put the Polyester dress in the washing mashine afterwards - so annoying! Yes, sadly Polyester clothes are more affordable (Literally most of the Fast Fashion stuff I see is made of Polyester, which is another reason not to buy it).
I settled for thick (because the give the clothes a more structured and mature shape, if that makes sense) 100% cotton shirts and blouses. You have to iron most of them but wearing them is much more pleasant than Polyester stuff. Love linen but agree with you

🙂It’s light woven or knit COTTONS for me, SILK and I’m loving loose cut LINENS bc I don’t wear shorts or short skirts (not EVER been a Summer gal) Also worthy to note are BAMBOO fabrics, HEMP and if you can get a hold of anything made of PINEAPPLE🍍 CLOTH, that fabric is divine. Athletic synthetics are not for me, no matter if they wick or not...the stench of body odor just sits in it.

You don’t sweat and stink in silk? I was excited to try it but it doesn’t work for me. At least the pieces I bought didn’t work. I felt, and smelled, like I was wearing plastic.
Most athletic wear doesn’t breath like it’s supposed to but I find that if a invest in more quality brands they work MUCH better at wicking the sweat and the stink. I play tennis every morning so I spend quite a bit of time in workout wear.

Good point about pineapple fabric. This has been used for centuries in a tropical hot and humid country like the Philippines. The fabric is used for its national costume matter of factly. Of course the more affordable option is cotton, light and airy. And a pair of flip flops.

I have made a conscious effort this year to not complain about the heat but just dress for it and just accept I live somewhere hot that is getting hotter. It was 111 yesterday, but as we say, “It’s a DRY heat.” 😜
I used to always post weather forecasts in my social media accounts and all the 😱🥵😨😤 emojis to go along with high temps. Except for a few stories with temps posted, no complaints from me and it’s made a huge difference.
My go-to outfit when it’s hot is a simple cotton tee, a flouncy A-line skirt, lightweight summery earrings and sandals that neither flip nor flop. I just can’t feel polished in shoes that slap my feet as I walk thru Trader Joe’s.

Just thought I would share some insight for us ladies new to the desert life.. It's usually 112° and above where I live. Your birthday suit is all you really want to wear however the closest to that would be billowy linen or cotton and Audry suggests. Don't forget your favorite straw hat! A cowgirl, panama, or wide brim straw hat gives you that pizzazz factor to plain linen or cotton dressing. As far as jewelry a ring or earrings is about it because necklaces and bracelets stick to your sweaty skin. A pretty scarf to hold your hair back or tied around your ponytail or high bun also enhances your overall look. Caudalie makes a wonderfully refreshing grape water spray mist. I put it my purse and spritz my arms, neck, face and legs to cool off!! I hope this helps ladies struggling with Desert living. 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌞

The base temp in the SE doesn't get that high, but humidity hits different than dry heat. Like tomorrow it will be around 88F with 88% humidity. The heat index brings that up to around 110F. It gets better though---when it's humid and stays humid like it does in the SE, sweat doesn't evaporate, so you can't cool off unless you can dry out the air. Fans are great, but even as I'm sitting in an air conditioned house, the air is damp and retaining additional heat. It sucks.

Yes! Likewise. I can do one light necklace and a fitness watch, but everything else (and even that) is so uncomfortable. Plus I've lost a couple rings due to sweaty hands, they're just not for me.

I also have moved to a hotter and more humid climate, which really keeps me indoors during the summer months.
I actually feel more alive during the cooler weather as I tend to perspire more than the most individuals.
My hair gets really frizzy and bigger too, with the humidity. So an updo is a must. Honestly, most of the time I put it up in a pony tail just for running errands; and I try to do most of my errands after sunset.

Yes! I'm from the desert and this is definitely the way to dress to stay cool in the summer. I'd also add to be careful when buying dresses. . sometimes even fairly nice brands will sew polyester lining or a slip into a 100% cotton dress. Oof!

Summer is my least favorite season, mostly because it does get really hot & humid where I live. I've recently come to the conclusion that I need to incorporate lighter items into my summer wardrobe (fabric & color), so this video is perfect!

I live someplace that is EXTREMELY hot and dry and while this might sound crazy, one of my favorite summer outfits involves a long sleeve shirt with shorts. The sun in the summer is so intense and while sunscreen is great, many people forget to reapply it often or wear it on a daily basis. I like wearing long sleeves to protect my arms from sun exposure and, since I live in a dry climate, as long as I choose a natural fiber they’re pretty comfortable. I think the shorts balance the outfit nicely (plus, sun exposure on my legs is rarely an issue).

Hi Audrey! I live in Brazil and the weather goes from 8*Celsious to 43*Celsius (really cold to really hot). My go to summer outfit is viscose dress with sandals or cotton t-shirt + linen/cotton skirts.
For winter, I add thermals and big coats. Jeans or wool pants and boots.
I love your trousers. What’s the fabric?

I partially gave up on clothes shopping and picked up sewing instead. It was so frustrating to find clothes that fit well and are made of season-appropriate fabrics. I'm currently working on my first ever pair or linen summer shorts.
