  • Sometimes things get a bit rough out there..Lol. Loving this new power setup!!!! Plans to install a Max6 changed when my order somehow got lost in mail. Borrowed my Firma 160A out of my Infraction for now. Excited to see what else M2C Racing has planned for this platform. Definitely a super FUN rig overall. Big thanks to Fast Track Hobbies in Rocklin CA for having all the parts I needed to fix Big Bertha.

    Thanks Rich! You are probably the best and most educational RC dude out there! I’m retired military and follow all that you do; I have approximately 40 or so rc’s that after I watch what put them through I usually go buy it and the upgrades you do! I live in Laurinburg, NC and we have no hobby shop or place to run my cars like you! I’m in the process of buying a few acres of land to build a bashing track/area to run them! You are the real deal!! Keep up the awesome work you put out for the RC world!

    I wonder if the added metal components attributed to the break. It sheared off just behind the motor mount/brace. Normally the whole length of the chassis will flex dissapating the force over more area. Of course cold temps and huge air don't help.

      Anything is possible, but it was around 53° plus wind chill when I packed up 🤔. I tagged some rocks, but nothing too Crazy. An inherent design flaw is the stock center shaft isn't designed to flex with the chassis. Also the center and rear pods can jam the gears together under enough stress. Looking forward to trying the CVD style 2 piece center shaft M2C is working on 😎💪👊👊

      @@richduperbash2966 Rich, would you mind if I asked what kind of maintenance / cleanup you do after running hard in the sand like that? I ran a few of my trucks at the beach this summer and the cleanup was pretty much a complete tear-down of each truck with a lot of meticulous cleaning (or maybe that's just me.) Just curious what you do to keep your X-Maxx in good running condition in such a harsh environment. Thanks!

    • @richduperbash2966
      @richduperbash2966  2 года назад +1

      @@xpedalpusherx hey James. Running at saltwater beaches presents different corrosion issues than a freshwater spot like mine no question. I usually blow my rigs off with a strong shop blower and air compressor at a bare minimum. If my rigs get wet/muddy, they usually get a full wash and lube with 50/50 mix of Simple Green and water, followed by a rinse off, careful blow dry, and Silicone Spray of all exposed bearings. My bearings get a better clean and bearing oil (or replacement as needed) during maintenance or diff fluid changes. In general, I find fine construction dust to wear on parts worse than sand. I'll wash during dry months after a few dusty bashes just to keep things smooth and performing well. I also do basic cleaning with a toothbrush or acid brushes. My rigs all get teardowns, but it's usually as needed, not on a set routine. 😎💪👊👊

    I think that's the most epic sends I have seen with an xmaxx. They look like they would be fun to drive. Too bad about the stock esc giving up so early. I love that bright green color scheme it must help with seeing it flying high like that. Some awesome flips with it. Seems like no matter the brand or vehicle that's the weak point for any plastic chassis. Too bad it broke so soon but maybe mitch could design a brace or something to sturdy it up there. What a blast watching you rip it out there 💥
    Same when you showed the m2c chassis parts! These things are art in aluminum 🧐 just wow!!!
    BUT in the moment seeing the motor and esc mount I was sure exactly what will happen to the bulkhead! 😉 believe it or not.!? It’s because of the gap in the chassis between front and rear bulkhead! The chassisflex on landings is causing compression on the upside and stretching on the underside and the brace eliminates the compression! So it’s just a question of time passing the limit ☝🏻 Even if there’s a second BUT! Your type of bashing is much more stressful to the components than the ‚normal user‘ will throw on! So at the end I think for general bashing with a more torque power system that motormount is the best on the market yet 👍🏻
    I‘m pretty excited seeing m2c finding a solution- maybe with a kind of sliding spot in the brace🤔

      @richduperbash2966  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment Kevin 👊. I agree on all fronts Brother. It's important this chassis can flex, especially with the center being lifted by design.The solid alloy driveshaft brace I installed didn't help either 👀. I think it eliminated all central chassis flex and helped transfer strain to the rear. I'll probably remove the ESC mount until I need it for a bigger ESC. I've already removed the driveshaft block. Just waiting for the CVD style M2C prototype to arrive. 😎💪👊👊

    Happy late turkey day brother…… You had some nasty hits with this beast but overall runs great. I am running the same motor but with a max 5 and love it. Compared to stock it’s a night and day difference, and makes me wonder why Traxxas skimped on the electronics in this thing. I am also using the new m2c mount while running 30/50 gearing with belted duratrax six pack x . At times I feel I am also missing some wheel speed as it’s hard to get the nose up. Anyhow great bash and I can’t wait to see what other cool stuff m2c comes out with. Talk to you soon brother !!!!!!

Some guys are happy with stock system power and that's fine, but many of us simply need more grunt for performance and Fun factor 😍. Your set-up sounds Awesome 👊. I still like the Duratrax Six Pack X's and Lockups. Just have to maintain the glue beads running bigger power. I'm waiting on a fresh set of 8s Backflips. And when I ran mine on 8s the first time it stripped all but 4 total teeth combined between pinion and spur. The spur had been overtighten at the factory and it broke th bottom of the spur hex screw hole which ended up running through the gears and of course when its further than you can hear not noticable until it just stops and take the walk of shame. Hot racing spur and tekno pinion put in. The tekno pinion has a 2.5mm grub to get more torque on it and a flat bottom to keep in place instead of the normal slightly pointed grubs.

    I've seen quite a few facebook mentions that the max6 and 5687 aren't a good pairing, the motor is too big for the esc. I just shelled my traxxas 1200XL on my "new to me" xmaxx running 21/50 gearing. My first bash was with 18/54 and the vxl-8s. It was soooooo slow... I had a spare max6 at home, so I threw that in with 20/50 for my second session. It was a lot better. I wanted a bit more air control/jump distance, so I put a 21T with the 50T in it today. I've run the truck 3 times, today was the 3rd when the motor grenaded the rotor half way through the first set of packs. Now I'm not sure if I just get another stock motor or try the 5687.
    Then I see you were getting away with 32/50 gearing with the firma160 (max6) and the HW5687/1100kv. With how hard you drive... if the esc was going to die, it would have died. Doing the math, 24/50 would be a little higher top speed than the 21/50 I was running with the stock motor... and your running a 32T! That thing must be flying!
    I also ran across the spektrum version of that motor, SPMXSM2500. Looks the same, same size/kv, but is a bit cheaper. Have you tried that in anything yet? Just curious.

    • @richduperbash2966
      @richduperbash2966  Год назад +1

      My guess is you had bad luck with the 5687 grenading. I've ran several, only overheated 1 a couple summers ago in my heavier Outcast 8s going wide out during a brutal heatwave. The motor was already well used. Spectrum motors and ESCs aren't bad at all. My buddies have had good luck with the 1100. I've had great luck overall with the Max6 and Firma 160A. 🍻

You need enough RPM's not only for decent top speeds, but also for proper mid-air wheelspin to give you good control with corrections. 32/50 seems about perfect. I could probably run 34/50 gearing and still keep the temps plenty safe. 😎💪👊👊
