Update 4/23/20 This beta firmware was never moved to production. I contacted DJI and there are no plans at this time to do so. If by chance the P4PV2 does show up as an option on your Smart Controller I very strongly recommend not to do anything with it. It does not have full functionality and there could be serious consequences if you attempt to fly with it.

That is great Bill, it gives new life to the DJI Smart Controller and turns it into what everyone had hoped it would be (a multi-drone capable controller). Now if only DJI had included a removable battery on the Smart Controller so that if you wanted to fly several drones giving you eight or more flights you'd have sufficient battery power to spend the day doing it. This would have made the controller of interest to the professional hobby market.
It sure is Steve. Thank you for your comment. I know a number of people who have used Anker, Rav power soultions to keep the Smart Controller running.

Also this gives phantom users a reason to buy one now and hopefully when DJI resumes phantom production they will offer it to buy as the main controller like they do with the mavic 2 series which will cost more but will be better sales for DJI so a win win for the customer and company

Thanks for the test Bill, I look forward to trying it on my Mavic 2 Zoom, doesn't seem much was updated or improved for the Mavic's, DJI still has a lot to improve on the Smart Controller, I love the controller but think they could make it better with some additional SW updates. Thanks for taking time to show us your texting of the DJI products.

Great testing Bill, the software seems likes close to being ready. And it will be wonderful to able to fly both the Mavic 2 and P4P V2 with the Smart Controller. Do you think the new beta firmware affected your precision landing?

DJI has re-released the P4P v2 with some enhancements but it is disappointing that the smart controller is not supported.
Danny Elam I’ve been beta testing a firmware update for the smart controller that includes the P4V2. Its a total unknown when it will go live.

Very good Bill. I’m glad you were able to get in on the beta testing for the controller. I just hope you don’t “Beta-crash“ your drone. Do you know if there will be a second beta version, and third etc.? One good thing that I think this tells all of us is that DJI is not out of the drone business and will have things coming. 👍🏻
Thank you Mike. I'm posting my findings on DJIs Official Forum. Since this is my first time my guess (don't hold me to this) is it's pretty much the final version. So far P4PV2 looking great. Did find out that the sound option for screen recording is very muffled and not very useful. And your so right - this is great news for DJI and all of us !

Unfortunately not yet Brad. My guess and it's only a guess is middle to end of September.
So I noticed some jitters on the screen recording. Did you notice this? Is this from post or something with the beta software? Also have you been able to do a range test with the smart controller vs the phantom controller on the Phantom 4 Pr v2? Thanks.
bmmcwhirt The jitters were not there during the actual flights so that is post. The furthest I’ve gone is what you saw on the video - about 2,500 plus feet. Thank you.
This also means that the phantom isn’t a dead line as well....why make the smart controller compatible to a drone series that is so called “dead”......because it’s not! Lol

No. They will ask us to roll back to the previous firmware before right before that happens and we haven't been asked yet.
hey hey why can i not see the PH4Pv2 in the meny on my smart controller.....Just get the latest update on dji assistent mavic 2....is there someting i got to turn on off of in the controller??
The beta firmware was never moved to production. DJI states it has no plans at this time to move that to production.

@@Anders130 You had to apply last June to DJI to get approved as a beta tester. I did and was accepted. That was the only way to get the software. It is not available. Thank you.

Do you think the Inspire 2 will be next to get the smart controller?
Ian it will only work with Occusync 2.0. The only aircraft that have that are Mavic 2 series and Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. They were clear it will work with any future aircraft with Occusync 2.0.

Beta Firmware is not for sale. The DJI Smart Controller is available for sale on DJI's website.
