My 2nd great grandmother Mary kauihanohano luahiwa Nicholas was from koloa kauai.. her mother my 3rd great grandmother ululani kololina hipa was also feom kauai as was all the generations prior.. her father was from spanish guam.. and she married my 2nd great grandfather Joaquin gomes dasilva.. who came to hawaii on the ss Bordeaux as one of the 20 stowaways from funchal portugal.. i have a picture of her at the 7th annual king Kamehameha girls school commencement ceremony.. i was lead to believe she is of the alii nui of kauai.. i cant find any history beyond her.. and the only record i have of my 3rd great grandmother and grandfather are their signatures on mary kauihanohano luahiwa Nicholas and joaquin gomes dasilvas marriage certificate.. anywho.. i hope to get there some day and do some deeper digging...
Is it Kauai or Kaua"i ? Is it Molokai or Moloka'i? Is it Lanai, or Lana'i ? Do these words describe an island surrounded by the sea or a positive and or supreme island just like the island of hawai . In either case, I live in a neighborhood on the southern coast of Waimanalo and the eastern part of Honolulu. It is called, Hawaii Ka'i The Oahu panhandle. By the way, is it Oh-A-hoo or Owe-wahoo?
