- He has a reputation in Nigeria as a "supercop", and has been celebrated by President Buhari as a “hero” - solving many big criminal cases.
But in recent months, suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari has fallen out of favour in Nigeria, and is also wanted in the United States.
BBC Africa's Princess Irede Abumere explains who Abba Kyari is, why he’s so famous in Nigeria, and what exactly the allegations against him are.

It didn’t shock most of the people… it was no secret the type of officer he was. But after certain government officials and some wealthy individuals (who are all corrupt) started to praise him, everyone turned a blind eye to his “activities”

@@kenzelcold1636 Your statement is personal. I too live in the US and have seen many service men and women decorated with medals of honor when they go above and beyond. Besides, the US policing system is way different from the Nigeria's system where a single police unit is responsible for the security of the whole country. In your own case, you were a city police officer. In Nigeria, every police officer is a federal employee.

The US government does it as well. Why do you think they give Purple Heart Award in the US???? In the US, Police Union has an award they refer to as "Officer of the Year". There is another award called "Live Saving Award". It is the common practice all over the world. There are many service men and women of integrity that have received awards for their service globally and have remained unblemished in their roles. There are some who won awards and later messed up as well, like this Abba Kyari.

Where someone did well , the person should be commended and where someone did wrong the person equally should be condemned.
ABBA Kyari has done extremely well in terms of fighting crime in Nigeria.
But I’m deeply disturbed because of high profile cases he was handling should not be dismissed by some criminals in the name lawyers and judges.
All kidnappers he arrested with AK47-49 should not be allowed to go free because of this travail.
I don't trust this guy one bit. Dude is a rent cop and has absolutely zero morals. Everyone he has arrested and jailed should definitely be re-tried and released if innocent.
