I remember BBC 2 used to show them on TV after I got home from school when small I liked it when Stan used to star I think her name was Bibi playing both there wife in the comedy film series and had a temper on her.
Being filmed and photographed back then was a way to show off the best part of yourself. Even Laurel, sick and dying was smiling and cracking jokes. People didn`t really start to get comfortable and honest in front of cameras before the smart phone. And the difference in the world then and now is back then the leaders was crazy and today it`s the people who are crazy. We may actually need another WW as it seems like we have lost the ability to be humble.
That was a fantastic watch... Laurel & Hardy are timeless they will never age, I still watch them today nearly 100 years after their first film and still make me laugh..

Indeed. Most of this was filmed at the home of Stan's daughter and her husband Rand Brooks, who was in Gone With The Wind. Stan kept an extraordinary character called Jimmy Murphy as his valet. The dog in this film is Mr. Murphy, named after Stan's valet.

Would it have been possible for them to truly imagine just how much fun and laughter they brought to so many generations of kids around the world? We can only hope so!
123Rockchild There was this tibit in an interview with Stan Laurel after Hardy's death where he told about walking into a store and the clerk went "Excuse me, don't mean to bother you but you look familiar, might I know who you are?" And Laurel went "Why certainly, I am Oliver Hardy!" At which the clerk told him that he knew all their movies and inquired to what had happened to Stan Laurel. At which Laurel told him that Stan had died recently. At which the clerk went about what a shame it was, such a genius of comedy. Laurel made no efforts to reveal who he really was and cried tears of happiness knowing that his legacy would continue and he did it all while pretending to be Hardy, in doing so lovingly giving Hardy all the credit.
i will always remember stan n ollie with great pride respect laughter and love, thank u guys for all the joy u gave to me over the years xx god bless xx hope to meet yous wen my time comes x
l was five years old years old in 1956 . Oliver Hardy had an estate with a pool the next street over from where our family lived . They were nice enough to open the pool for swimming lessons for the neighborhood kids so I remember learning how to swim in his pool . This was in the San Fernando Valley in Canoga Park, California . Great time to be growing up , of course there were only approximately 3 1/2 billion people on the whole planet at that time . Now 8 billion.
That’s another fine mess you’ve gotten me into. Probably the greatest catchphrase ever… Wonderful people and performers, may they rest in peace but always be remembered.
Love them both.Stan called Oliver by his nickname Babe it brought tears to my eyes when Stan said i didnt attend Babe"s funeral but Babe would understand. The way he said it was knowing 100% that he was right and he didnt need to explain to us why he didnt go. But it was obviously health related.A tearful Buster Keaton said at Stans funeral that some said Chaplin was the funnest but in fact it was this man Stan Laurel that was the Funnest. Rip Stan & Babe
Indeed. Stan’s own health was not too good at the time, and his doctor realized that the emotional strain of attending Babe’s funeral might literally kill him, so he forbade Stan from going. They knew each other so well; Stan knew Babe would want him to rest and get better, and that he didn’t need to attend for Babe to know that he loved him.
What I love about this video (apart from the video itself, of course) is that none of us commenting have found a reason to argue (which is very common, almost under all the videos on RUclips)... It seemed to me that we are all friends sitting in our living room, and chatting about beautiful things and even more beautiful actors - comedians - PEOPLE, like Laurel and Hardy... Cheers, everyone, you made my day!!
I agree..!! I get so sick of bad comments and the profanity on RUclips..This video brought back memories of when I was just a kid watching their shows on tv during the 60s..Peace to all..!
Well, we can't have that, now can we?? And as soon as I come up with something really nasty, vile and disgusting, I'll be right back!!!!! You'll see!!!
i loved these two ... i never tire at watching the old slapstick. Timeless. I am onow 61. When dad was alive and in my younger days we as a family watched their shows and he laughed heartily. Those were the days. Stan and ollie - we love you!
I grew up with these two, my Grandfather had a stack of cine 8. later on TV, then I bought the video collection, now it's DVD. The greatest comedy duo ever.
These two were always meant to come together and create a magic that changed the world for the better. They worked in harmony with each other, never fought or disagreed or envied each other, always shared the spotlight on and off the screen as their popularity took off, and became bonded for life. Their affection and brotherly love that infuses all of their films was completely authentic and genuine. Stan had no interest in working alone or with any other partner after Babe died and turned down multiple huge, expensive offers to do so. The bond they formed was one in a million, and we - as viewers of their genius - are all better people because of it.
There was also an issue of their health. Sadly, I read elsewhere that Stan had a couple of strokes prior to this film (both in comments and in the OP). So I'm sure that had quite a bit to do with his refusal to do other movies. But with anybody else? That would seem like anathema, wouldn't it? It's even strange to see them in the silent era, working separately!
@@snickpickleindeed. They stood by each other during all their health crises. When Stan was diagnosed with diabetes in the late 1940s, Babe didn’t want to work without him and it was only Stan’s insistence that convinced him to agree to appear in John Wayne’s “The Flying Kentuckian.” When Babe had a heart attack during a 1954 European music hall tour, Stan canceled all remaining engagements and went home with Babe so he could get better. After Stan had a stroke in 1955, Babe visited him at home, and according to their biographer John McCabe, Babe said to Stan “well, here’s another nice mess you’ve gotten yourself into!” after the stroke, which cheered Stan up. And then when Babe had a massive, crippling stroke in 1956 (just three months after this home movie was shot) and was left unable to speak, Stan was on standby and visited him every time Mrs. Lucille Hardy called and said Babe was lucid enough for a visit. They would mostly communicate in pantomime since Stan didn’t really want to speak if Babe couldn’t. McCabe said Babe burst into tears at his inability to speak to Stan, clearly having so much to say to him, but Stan somehow understood just by looking into his eyes and whispered “Yes, Babe, yes.” 😭
Nobody cares if you watched their films in the 1960s. You were supposed to watch them in the 1930s when they were made in the 30s. You weren't born in the greatest generation so you are a loser.
The thing that gets me is, they would never know just how famous they have become! One of the greatest comedic pairs in cinematic history! They make me burst out laughing to this day!!

Thats why we need to enjoy what lives we have now, cos at anytime it could be gone. And as the world gets worse there will be people in 80 years time watching videos of our time now and they will be saying "god i wish we could go back to the good old days of 2020". There will be more war, more diseases that we cant even imagine. So enjoy the time we have now and love your friends and family
Do you know why we all love them so much? Because they loved all people and worked hard and suffered a lot just to make sad people happy .Be safe at heaven!

@@johnreynolds6369 Hey John. I have a 32yo daughter from my first marriage too. When my young one came both me and my wife (29 years younger) thought it was a blessing, and it definitely was. I wouldn't change it for the world. Hard work? Yes I agree and you must know better having two. But you are blessed my friend. And they did so without using foul language and sex, fart and poop jokes. This simple, innocent, but clever style of humor is really missed these days. There will never again be people like L&H, Chaplin, Keaton, Marx Brothers or Abbott & Costello, but fortunately we can still watch their old stuff.

After reading many of the comments on this post, I whole heartedly agree, Laurel and Hardy were indeed true comedians! I would rather watch them, the 3 Stooges, Abbott & Costello (the second greatest comic duel) and the Marx Brothers than the mean spirited, vulgar junk called comedy today!
...and let's not forget their 2 greatest predecessors Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin!! BTW - Stan was Chaplin's understudy with the Fred Karno troupe when they first came to America in 1912. :-)
Don't casually pretend all modern humor is vulgar. You're just showing how out-of-touch you are with the modern era. I love a lot of the great old stuff but don't use that as your crutch to bash the great modern stuff, which DOES exist even if you decided to stop looking for it.
even though I wasn't born until 1982 I still harbor much respect and admiration for Laurel and Hardy as anyone from their era does, I will always miss them a great deal for they come from a period of time when comedy was authentic and true to it's name, r.i.p guys and thank you so so much 😢
I'm an 82er as well... I learned via the cartoon but my wife's dad is a big fan and I recognise their original form that many would try and emulate....
Without a doubt, the greatest comedy double act in history. And they will remain that forever. I very much doubt that anybody will ever come even close to them. Since they were best friends in real life, that real life chemistry helped their act more then anything.
I'm an adult man in my early twenties and I only started watching them in the last month or two. WOW. Never have I ever laughed so much at comedy, apart from maybe Chaplin, who is certainly a close second in terms of laughs per minute (LPM).
If l could have the wish of famous people at my dinner table it would most definitely be these two, the stories, the fun the laughter. Simply the best there was and ever will be.

so very sad ruclips.net/video/7AredOYzaZk/видео.html
Your'e so right Peter! God gave us the gift of eternal laughter when he paired these two lovely men together! xx
I can watch their movies over and over. The world has since gone mad.
It's called progress.
A Chump at Oxford
@Mr Spoon So you really wish back the oh-so-beautiful world of the 1930s, with Hitler, Mussolini, etc.? Some people just never learn.
Do Detectives think?
Being filmed and photographed back then was a way to show off the best part of yourself. Even Laurel, sick and dying was smiling and cracking jokes. People didn`t really start to get comfortable and honest in front of cameras before the smart phone. And the difference in the world then and now is back then the leaders was crazy and today it`s the people who are crazy. We may actually need another WW as it seems like we have lost the ability to be humble.
Their body's are aged, but they spirit and compassion shine STRONG!!!
They might age, their humor will never do so.
That was a fantastic watch... Laurel & Hardy are timeless they will never age, I still watch them today nearly 100 years after their first film and still make me laugh..
Hey you should go on RUclips and Google 1920s snowball fight in color ohmygosh ohmygosh I think they even recorded audio. The clarity was so credible it look like they filled it yesterday. All the people just seem so much happier back then
You even mentioned the age. Why say they won't age?
Well in video they will never age.....hence why he said it

+redradiodog so true
Very true. So many comedy teams have come and gone since Laurel and Hardy. But how many of them have actually won an Oscar Like Laurel and Hardy ?
I agree with you, you can't put a price on the pleasure that they gave to people.

they were truly amazing.
my parents got me hooked on them, because they absolutely loved them, and so did I. makes me emotional watching this.

Indeed. Most of this was filmed at the home of Stan's daughter and her husband Rand Brooks, who was in Gone With The Wind. Stan kept an extraordinary character called Jimmy Murphy as his valet. The dog in this film is Mr. Murphy, named after Stan's valet.

BluePikachu89 same
The only two golden era comedians who made me laugh out loud. A timeless double act.
ewaf88 what about the Stooges? Are they considered comedians per se?
I didn't find them funny although many did.
they were like two peas in a pot
:-)
these pair got me through my poor upbringing , I will never forget them
Karl Meadows That's a nice thing to read, glad they gave you joy. A bit of laughter really can do so much & make the world seem a little less bleak. Be well my friend.
Karl, glad you turned out ok.
Karl don't become a psychopath
lol I turned out rather good in the end
Such a gift they were..
I am 69 years old and they are still my favorite comedians. They are REAL comedians along with many others like W.C. Fields, Red Skeleton, Lucille Ball. REAL comedians NEVER resort to filthy trash talk. God Bless them and may all of them RIP
your right but W.C.Fields was a little risky , but how he said really made you laugh .
Juan S I also loved Harold Lloyd, every summer holiday as a child in the 70s and 80s were great as these fine comedic actors were on the box, followed by Why Don't You...😁😁😁
Yeh same here mate. Used to eat my weekend stash of sweets watching Laurel & Hardy / Harold Lloyd, Monkee, Pot Black, Hammer House of Horror, and the best week day shows like The Adventure Game, Fawlty Towers, and Sapphire and Steel. Telly was worth watching then 👍
In the end, Red resorted to dropping the "f" bomb. Lots of people walked out of his show. The one in Green Bay especially.
AMEN!!! ;-D
Grew up watching these fine gentlemen; thank you for your humor!
Laurel and Hardy are symbols of love and happiness... Forever they are missed....
We can only hope that these two truly knew how much joy they brought to others and that their comedic legacy that would endure.
Would it have been possible for them to truly imagine just how much fun and laughter they brought to so many generations of kids around the world? We can only hope so!

Dick Flickem do you believe the bible?
123Rockchild There was this tibit in an interview with Stan Laurel after Hardy's death where he told about walking into a store and the clerk went "Excuse me, don't mean to bother you but you look familiar, might I know who you are?"
And Laurel went "Why certainly, I am Oliver Hardy!"
At which the clerk told him that he knew all their movies and inquired to what had happened to Stan Laurel.
Probably the greatest catchphrase ever…
Wonderful people and performers, may they rest in peace but always be remembered.
Yep
I enjoyed them both so very much!
So true, love them even if old.
I’ve seen the same thing on Mr Rogers videos. Not a cross word to be found in the comments. It’s pretty nice
Well, we can't have that, now can we?? And as soon as I come up with something really nasty, vile and disgusting, I'll be right back!!!!! You'll see!!!
Hortensia84 I disagree you moron! Haha!
i loved these two ... i never tire at watching the old slapstick. Timeless. I am onow 61. When dad was alive and in my younger days we as a family watched their shows and he laughed heartily. Those were the days. Stan and ollie - we love you!
I grew up with these two, my Grandfather had
a stack of cine 8. later on TV, then I bought the video collection, now it's DVD.
I"m in my late 60's and I've been watching these two geniuses since i was a kid. There was no one better.

Nobody cares if you watched their films in the 1960s. You were supposed to watch them in the 1930s when they were made in the 30s. You weren't born in the greatest generation so you are a loser.

I wouldn't change it for the world. Hard work? Yes I agree and you must know better having two. But you are blessed my friend. Due to my age at 64 (although people say it is only a number) I feel my years in my knees and my back and its getting hard for me to keep up. Unlike so many people these days these two fine artists gave so much laughter, entertainment and goodness to multiple generations.
And they did so without using foul language and sex, fart and poop jokes. This simple, innocent, but clever style of humor is really missed these days. There will never again be people like L&H, Chaplin, Keaton, Marx Brothers or Abbott & Costello, but fortunately we can still watch their old stuff.

@Geo Thomas Their careers ended in 1951.

Don't casually pretend all modern humor is vulgar. You're just showing how out-of-touch you are with the modern era. I love a lot of the great old stuff but don't use that as your crutch to bash the great modern stuff, which DOES exist even if you decided to stop looking for it.
