- Day 3 of the 6-days ballet challenge
Although I grew up in the Vaganova school, I have been teaching for 20 years in the UK.
Hence, I forgot to change the names of the arms position back to the Vaganova terminology.
I was teaching these beautiful port de bras to my students who are unfamiliar with:
• 5th = 3rd
• 3rd = small pose
• 4th = big pose.
I do mention the difference in class though.

The port de bras is gorgeous, and the impatient cat is a big mood!
Thank you! Herbert the cat is very expressive. :)
Your precious little feline student. Love your channel. So informative.
Black cat is fantastic
He is. He's actually brown but likes to pose as a black cat in the right light. 😁
The cat... so cute!!!! Beautiful moviments
Eeeem....no not cute
Port de bras eseguito magistralmente! Complimenti! È chiaro e formativo per chi vuole imparare anche da solo.
Thank you very much. I am happy you like it.

The CAT💖
by the way it is really cute how he looks at you
We use the second version of this port de bras.
I would assume so. 😊
Il gatto ha fame
He is always hungry! :)
I would like to ask you about the back rolling up or straight... Which one is the correct way to do it? I think sometimes my teacher says keep your back straight but sometimes she doesnt insist or say anything and we all do the rolling way. Thank you!
As with so many things in ballet, both ways are correct. It depends what you teacher prefers. The more options you know, the better.
I teach my students to roll up because a) there are so few opportunities to practise a flexed spine in ballet class, b) It's a good counter pose before the back bend, c) it's aligning the pelvis and the shoulders in a specific way.
@@HolisticBallet my teacher has us do both, too. She's says it's good for us.
So lovely again. Excellent. Thank you Madame. 🌹
In ballet class my teacher was teaching us to cambre not straight back, but almost to the side (not circular port de bra) like instead of going straight back she was telling us to point our chest out towards the side to the audience instead of straight back, is this just another variation or is it wrong? I just have never heard of it done that way. BTW I’m loving your videos and how you go very slow, your hands are very feminine and graceful.
Thanks for your comment. It is very interesting what your teacher told you. Did she also give a reason why?
When I teach a regular back bend in the centre, in épaulement, I add a twist from the waist towards the audience. At the barre, I keep the back bend straight.
In a circle port de bras in the centre, we start with a twist and then move into the straight back bend before coming upright. If students continue to 'circle' all I ever see is the shoulders getting into unsightly positions.
I am happy you like the way I use my hands. It is interesting as many comments from Vaganova-trained dancers dislike them :)
Generally, I'd hesitate to call any movements right or wrong in ballet. Every school, system, method, teacher, etc. have their own take, taste, and opinion. Important is to explain WHY one would do it this way or that.
@@HolisticBallet thanks for the reply! That all makes sense, and no she didn’t give a reason.
the cat demands attention
Beautiful arms, but it’s not correct the musical count and the port de bras finish with the arms in second position. And then the end.
How is it Vaganova 3ed port de bra if she saying close arms to 5th position? It's not 5th :) We love the cat :)!!!
У вас везде ошибки!
Has nothing to do with the Vaganova post de bras :)
