      They flush millions of gallons of water to the ocean, so don't be surprised if those resivors are empty by the end of this summer. Maybe if these idiots reclaimed water right before the ocean, they might make it last longer. Also, if they were that concerned about rising ocean climate change, they would have run that desalination plant 24/7 to remove as much fresh water as possible to off-site storage or for immediate on demand use and give back all the water they take from the Colorado River so other actual desert states can use that.

    So start pumping water into the aquifers so the reservoirs can accept higher levels of runoff already! The aquifers take *centuries* to refill naturally, and now cannot receive enough to replenish what we pull out of them by natural means: it's time for CA to manage its water resources properly so that when we *have* an abundance, we can bank it for later!

This is being done by small irrigation districts to see the viability of using surface water during the winter time to replenish groundwater. It is already a proven fact that when you use surface water for irrigation instead of groundwater, groundwater levels do not recede and in many cases groundwater level actually rises.

The reasons are not to create the drought, lower reservoir levels are a result of what they are doing, intentional or not that is another topic. For instance, ceratain fish in the sacramento river are being labeled as endangered or nearly there which means they have to release a certain amount of water to keep the fish alive as they do not live in still bodies of water. There is a debate as to the population of this certain fish and if it even warrants the year round river flow to be maintained but that is a who different topic the "bugs and bunny" people need to have a serious talk about after running our reservoirs so low.

    These reservoirs are just a smaller part. California relies a lot on groundwater so even if some of these reservoirs are filled, their drought problems are not over.
    Most of the rain water runs off faster than the ground can absorb it and fill underground aquifers. So the short term rainstorms they had was not enough to solve their problems in the longer term.
    And even with all the snow they received they are not totally out of the woods. If the snowpacks melt too fast then a lot of it will just drain away down rivers and the reservoirs can only hold so much at a time.

      black it's not that simple. There are many factors that will take into play. You affect parts of an ecosystem it will affect other parts. For example like certain wildlife will be drivine into human populated areas, certain insects or wildlife may disappear that keep other living things in check and if they are not there then you may have an overrun of something that you do not want. For example if wildlife that prey on mice or insects are dwindled then then rodents and insects will multiple like crazy and may spread disease. Even affecting native growth of plants and trees may create issues. If you kill off vegetation in certain areas you may cause erosion of flash flooding.
      Heck even wiping out the frogs in a drainage pond in your neighborhood alone can cause a serious mosquito infestation in your neighborhood. Or if a neighbor behind you that lived up on a hill decided to clear all the vegetation off of the hill it would not be good for the person on the bottom. So it's not just about tree hugging. Also things down river will also be affected if you disrupt the flow of rivers and even streams.
      Also you can't just build dams anywhere you want. There needs to be certain geological factors that are involved.

    • @kenlarsen2390
      @kenlarsen2390 Год назад

    • @bubbalo3388
      @bubbalo3388 Год назад

      @@kenlarsen2390 it still depends on how much rain accumulation and the duration of the rains. Raining more days does not necessarily mean more water. And then there's how dry the ground is to begin with, evaporation, blah blah blah.
      California goes through a lot of dry spells and having just enough is not going to cut it. California needs more than enough. And only parts of California are ok at this point I believe.
