Been struggling to get full turn for years & trying for power in downswing was causing over the top nightmare. Been trying your way and it gets me a full turn & also as I shift slightly just before downswing ensures I am hitting from more inside with more power. Great video and has improved my game so far. Many thanks.Graeme
Just stumbled across this video and it is exactly what I've been doing all summer and into the fall! I've been wondering why the distance on my irons isn't quite where it should be and just watched a couple videos of my swing and the light bulb went off! Thank you so much for this extremely simple explanation!
I burst out laughing at myself when I was able to make a more 90 degree shoulder turn using your magical PULL, thinking how stupid I've been for years. With a bit more hip turn, shoulder turn is now a piece of cake to me. Thanks a lot RotarySwing!
Thank you for this!!! Made a noticeable difference right away. I brought my swing speed radar with me to the range and this little adjustment translated into 3-4 mph more club head speed! That equals about 10yds more distance with this one easy change.
i hit 1,000 full shots a day under instruction and have for over 45 years and i personally have no trouble hitting a golf ball. It is really quite simple!
Can't believe the rotation big John Daley gets for such a big man. I tried it out on golf course today. It actually makes you feel so much more flexible......allowing the right side to dictate the turn
recently i feel left should lead should pain, now I find the right reason ! Thank you so much for sharing, not only to prevent the golf injury , but also improve the power and swing. Thanks again !
best advice i have heard on you tube ! the guys had their thumb down on this video can go pay more money for lessons and still can't get a full shoulder turn .
brilliant video. i do exactly the same thing as in just pull my left arm across the chest and everything goes tits up. it is difficult to trust that shoulder turn, it feels weird but boy can enjoy your golf more
I totally get what you're saying, just having one issue. As I now have a fuller backswing, my timing feels out of sync and I'm having more mishits. I am so use to my previously short backswing that a longer one seems to throw off my aim/timing (I'm guessing at the correct term to describe my problem). Hope this makes sense? Any suggestions? Thanks!
Is there anything you can do to make a full shoulder turn with minimal impact on knees. I was working on making full shoulder turn with my driver, pretty aggressive driving range session, and had serious swelling in from the knees and below the next day. Been wearing knee braces ever since, but other than flaring the feet out, can you make any suggestions for saving the knees.
Hi im 8 handicaper before i lift up my backswing with arms now after watch your videos which is very helpful to me , i eliminate my hands movement on my backswing and really got very good contact with the ball every time but i am facing club shut club face problems at impact after this i tried everything weakend my grip but im get confused with this problem i was a high draw ball hitter before but now my ball flight is going low and left even with very good angle of coming down please help whats the problem with my swing now after maximize my shoulder turn.
Most people can get only a 45° shoulder turn relative to the hips. For a 90° shoulder turn, the hips have to turn about 45° as well, which can challenge one's trail leg/knee brace. It's far more important imo to maintain that brace with a flexed trail knee than to turn deep. Indeed though, initiating with the right makes for a more complete turn.
Thanks Matt, hitting the big dog is the fun part! If you want to start crushing it, check out our Bomb Your Driver Course: rotaryswing.com/golf-instruction/bomb-your-driver-lp/index
This feels so much better on the knees as well! I've been doing it the other way, and I was thinking holy crap I have to increase my flexibility(was doing stretches to increase it) to achieve a 90 degree turn and it was straining my inner right knee a bit as well. This overall feels so much better!
it is easy in theory but in the practice is different. when you are with the golf club in your hand you start to push with the left side. I'm a member of RS for more than 1 year and I don't understand yet the concept of the shoulder blade, I don't know what I should feel in the backswing!!!! when I do the hip bump before and try to transfer my weight in the backswing , I sway!!!! and I loose my spine angle.
Arnaldo García Free rotation begins with a loose waist. Power is generated by the legs and conducted through the tail bone to the arms. Take up tai chi and you will get this.
He's obviously a non-native English spoken. Just like me. Sometimes anglophone world would be more pleasant with the rest of the world. We're trying to manage on English every single day, from a informal chatting to the academic researches, specially on websites and the worldwide net. Not an easy issue, mainly because there is a language structure inside your mind, who's working on a completely different way. No matter how much you push to learn. If you didn't learn a foreign language before 11-12 years old, you are not be able to create a native structure language in your mind to use that naturally. You always must to remind first your native language and then make a translation for to say on English. Even a simple phrase. That process sometimes makes you wrong. Even English native people won't understand you. So, DEAL WITH IT ! Otherwise, my native language it's Spanish (no one cares about Catalan), so I have to say that I'm not far far away from anglophone world. I just can't imagine how hard it is for people from Asian people. Oh Shakespeare, be nice with me .. I swear to you ! But anyway, thanks for the advice.
I want to know first , when I start the backswing, my first move it is moving the right shoulder posteriorly? when I do that I felt I'm picking the club instead of rotation. any tips?
I'm not sure what Chuck would tell you, but "right shoulder" encompasses many muscles. I find triggering the move with the right lat, instead of the delt, causes _all_ right shoulder muscles to move as one unit, keeping the right elbow "in front" of the body. You may also want to check your shoulder rotation plane. Too flat and you have to "pick the arms up". The right lat should feel it is moving up and back toward the target. Without the up component, you are fighting spine angle and are forced to lift the arms/club for elevation.
when I push my right shoulder during backswing , my right shoulder lifts up and touch my neck, is it normal or not? also there must have no tension in my left arm at all during backswing n rotation right?/ sorry for my grammar..
What I struggle with is when I do that how to control my arms and club during that sequence. When I get too deep with arms and the club I sometimes feel I have to stay high so I my hands to get the club in the slot I need to be in.
That's very interesting. I was always told to use my left side to initiate the backswing, and if I used my right, it would cause an over the top move. When I try to turn my shoulders fully, it feels like my whole body is being pulled to my right, causing my center of gravity to move, and I can't get back to the left on the downswing. It's pretty frustrating.
You have proofed to make a full shoulder turn but at the same time you seem totally out of your golfposture at 3:06. Whats the use? The problem is that most can't make a full shoulder turn WHILE in good posture, that is inside your right foot, shoulder plane down, head inside right foot.
Hi, I buy into everything you are saying but my problem is one of sight! I'm very right eye dominant and when i make a full (90' plus) shoulder turn, I lose sight of the ball with my right eye (bridge of nose in way) and find it difficult to maintain a focus/awareness of the ball with just my left eye. Even though its just for a split second it seems enough to make me want to keep looking at the ball more with my right eye making a full turn impossible, Nicklaus, Hogan, Jones, Johnson, Woods the list is endless of top golfers who either turned their heads before or during their swing to facilitate a full shoulder turn. I have tried many options, wearing a patch on my right eye, contact lens in left eye, even looking at a point on the ground 4 feet directly behind the ball ( not at the ball at all) and haven't as of today found anything that works. I can't imagine I'm the only one with this issue or maybe I am ! Anyway really enjoy your videos, thanks.
You might be doing a reverse spin angle. Basically when you're at the peak of your back swing your head and upper body may be tilting towards the target. Your head should be behind the golf ball which I think would help prevent that but I'm no professional :)
Wow just wow. I use to power lift, years back and thought thats why I couldn't get a full back swing. I was just talking to my wife about it, showing her Dustin Johnson's swing. She agreed it was because of my meat head days... Yep that's out the window. Thanks sir. Holy shit.....
By far the BEST explanation of how to make a CONSISTENT & REPEATABLE backswing - EVERY TIME! I've been a decent player for years, but with this tip alone my game has transformed to a player to be reckoned with. Thanks, Chuck... you're amazing.
If you are pulling your right shoulder behind your head on the back swing, are you trying to pull your left shoulder behind your head on the down swing?
I know right. This blew my mind and changed my swing forever! I always thought I was rotating when I would start with my arms and bring my left arm across my body. I mean you do rotate so you think you're doing it right but when I signed up for rotary swing last year I was shocked!
it's the same thing as the one piece swing or the connected swing instead of starting the swing with your arms & hand's you leave them stationary at address & start your swing with your right shoulder moving every thing together first & it will produces a full shoulder turn who every you are old or Young guarantee & you will get better results for it....
Getting your shoulders to 90 is all you need even the pro's don't go further . its the flexibility of the left arm if you are a righty going as high as you can get it why staying at 90. Most of the pros get their left arm back to 90 same as shoulders where even me I am at like 60 with shoulders at 90. IF you can't move your shoulders to at least 90 then why play? ITs more about the arm being able to go to at least 45 for us average players that generates the swing speed.
How about us old guys?? I've seen enough dudes on the range with the same "arms only" swing to make me think age is a major factor. But thanks just the same for the skinny ray of hope.
Barnekkid age has nothing to do with it. It's just the simple fact that most golfers learn very poor mechanics and spend the rest of their lives grooving the same bad moves. The hope for u is that I just proved you can make a full shoulder turn if you did what I said in the video so you're on your way to improvement
I had been struggling for months blocking the ball out to the right, this fixed the problem and find i can now draw the ball at will by regulating this method
If u can't learn to have a decent swing and play better golf with all the info and video lessons Rotary Swing has to offer then u should take up badminton.
No offence, but this is crap. It's not pulling your right shoulder back that makes the full turn, reducing tension, it's the turning of your damn hips. The evidence is in the video above.
All these years and I finally find out how to make a full shoulder turn. It's a game changer for me, thank you!

That's exactly what I was doing for years and you fixed it in four minutes. Awesome! Thanks
This is the best tip (push vs pull), video and lesson from rotary swing...and I’ve seen them all.

Best drill ever! Reminds me to use my right shoulder to turn back and initiating the downswing !
I can make a full shoulder turn doing what you suggest but I can't stay centered. Any suggestions?
If you pulling you should stay centered. Don’t let hips sway .

Although I hit one club over normal distance with my half a back swing. Curious to see how this will play out.... Thanks again.
I've been playing at a much higher than average level for 40 years. Great, simple advice. Nice work.
excellent advice. It works! Finally I can easily make a full should turn...thanks for posting!
You’re welcome!
Shout out to the goons cramming an extra guy on the back of the cart at 3:14
So true Chuck, all golfers can make a full shoulder turn if they just understand this simple drill. Cheers
Makes sense. Wow. Thank you
very valid point

If you are pulling your right shoulder behind your head on the back swing, are you trying to pull your left shoulder behind your head on the down swing?

Not true at all, when you learn to pull instead of push your head won't sway

RotarySwing.com Golf Instruction it's easy with no club. add the club and there's flexion, and elevation, and a hundred other factors to screw you up.

This is a pretty good video, but too much talk at the beginning ...skip to 3:00 to find out exactly how to do this.
lol. worked straight away, too easy
Do u think a 350 pound old guy can do this?
Best way to know is try it and see
You have been teaching people that they can make a full shoulder turn for the past 20 years?
What, did you start teaching golf at 2 ? :)
I'm 41 but thanks for the compliment on my age lol
And now with the ball, chief. That's a complete different story.
Please talk less and show how to do?
lmfao
