After watching Jurassic World, I recommend watching Camp Cretaceous because although it isn't as good as the Jurassic Park classic film, it's essentially the Wandavision or Falcon and Winter Soldier for the Jurassic World films. I think you'd find it enjoyable, but it does start off more light hearted than the films

The whole "T-Rex vision based on movement" thing is actually a simplification from the original novel, where Grant realizes that it's because of the frog DNA that the Jurassic Park T-Rex's vision has been affected. Frogs' vision IS based on movement.

It was also an extrapolation based on how large the T-Rex olfactory glands and its processing were in comparison to its vision. At the time the film was made, they speculated that the T-Rex was a scavenger for the most part. However further research has shown that it had excellent vision and that it had incredible binocular vision, one even better than modern hawks, meaning they were most likely predators.

When grant is on the helicopter and can't buckle his seatbelt, it's Spielberg doing some early foreshadowing of the movie - Grant ties the same ends together, or "female ends" to bypass the regular seatbelt configuration. Later, the female dinosaurs start "bypassing" their genetic standard to procreate, thus proving Malcolm correct from the beginning: "Life, uh, finds a way."

That tarp leads outside, Dr. Hammond hadnt actually finished building the vistors center yet and so some walls had large gaps in them covered with those tarps. If you look closely in the background after the T-rex is inside youll see that the tarp where the Raptor poked his head in is now torn down because the T-rex came in through it.

Rex, I guess I screamed when it ate the lawyer, and the guys stopped the movie for a second - they thought it was too scary for me - but I begged them to turn it back on, and it's been my favorite movie ever since lmao
The smaller dinosaurs never scared me as much as the T. Rex, and to this day Rexy seems more frightening than The Big One; it probably boils down to some sort of megalophobia - something that big being alive and wanting to eat you is just spooky.

"This is a Unix system. I know this!" - made me laugh when I first saw the movie. As anyone who has had anything to do with Unix (and I was a sysadmin and dba on Unix systems for many years) it was hilarious that a pre-teen could just sit down, and in seconds, take root access control of the environment like that and reboot the whole system. Zero security? I think not. But that is not a criticism. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. BTW, the 3D graphic overlay - soaring over the file system 'landscape' like in a drone was not total BS. Virtual interfaces like that existed, even then. This one was developed by SGI for IRIX systems, and was called FSN (File System Navigator, pronounced "fusion"). It was experimental, and never developed into a fully functional system, but was a real thing nonetheless.

    • @G1NZOU
      @G1NZOU 2 года назад +2

To be honest it was one of the master control consoles, it's not like she was hacking in from the outside and instantly knew what to do. And the FSN was intended to lay out the file system intuitively.
Requires a little suspension of disbelief but someone who actually knew how a Unix filesystem was structured and had to find the right file it's not totally impossible.

For the scene where Copper does CPR they used a stunt double; a man who had lost his arms IRL. They used a really, really good facial mold of the Actor that played Copper, and placed it on the stunt doubles face for a seemless effect!

    T. rex and Triceratops actually did exist at the same time and place, however it was good for Holden to point out that over the near 200 million years that the dinosaurs existed, many evolved and went extinct at different locations all over the globe. Also, the dinosaurs went extinct about 65 million years ago.

FUN FACT! When the filmed this movie, it was mostly done in Kauai Hawaii but during filming it was hit w/ the *most devastating Category 4 hurricane Hawaii* has had (Iniki)! Spielberg had to evacuate a lot of people via helicopter and the last filming of the movie had to be done in Oahu including the famous flocking scene in Kualoa Ranch. That scene was originally planned to be filmed on Kauai, but producers moved to Oahu and filmed at the ranch with that amazing background. When you guys come visit you can do a tour of that ranch 😉
So there you have some MORE cool behind the scene info for you guys!
I do hope you guys watch all of them (2 older ones and 2 new ones) because some do hit the spot and some failed badly and i think now that Jen has been introduced to the world she should know all of them. plus you can see the new one when it comes out next year.

I avoided this one a lot as a kid. Loved dinosaurs, and would always go to the peabody museum to check out the bones they got there over at Yale. I think between being afraid of Mascot characters as a kid, and my love of the beasts, my mom always portrayed it as a "bad" movie so I would avoid it until I way ready for it, which I am glad for.
That being said, one of my childhood friends LOVED this movie, to the point where we were always playing the fighting games. Really helped me get passed the scary factor, cause those awful Playstation 1 graphics definitely did a number on me the first time I played the game. Quickly got over it tho, thankfully, and was the stepping stone into enjoying this classic as a pre-teen.
My all-time favorite thing about this movie, is actually all the behind the scenes stuff around the T-Rex reveal. Knowing that the kids *didn't* see the model before-hand, and not knowing that the sunroof of the jeep would collapse in, makes the reactions as genuine as possible.

That last part about the sunroof isn't true. There's a bunch of variations of this rumor, but the kids knew. Something unexpected did happen, but that wasn't it. The sunroof was supposed to come down and the kids knew it, but it cracked and came down a bit further than expected. The T-Rex animatronic lost a tooth, and they kept it in. This T-Rex still misses that tooth whenever the teeth are shown, even in Jurassic World.

The Jurassic Park series will always hold a special place in my heart. My only brother who sadly took his own life several years ago now was 10 years younger than me and he loved the Jurassic Park films. I believe it was Jurassic Park 3 was the last film we ever went to a theater together to see. That came out in 2001 and i was 19 and he had just turned 10. But as he sat there with a child like glee to see the film, my child like glee came when i saw the Spider-Man trailer for the first time. It was the trailer with the twin towers that they have seemingly erased from history. I remember as the helicopter jerked and i thought "could it be?" and then the camera zooms out to show it stuck to a big spider web anchored between the two towers and i about jumped out of my seat with glee.

Also another fun fact, the scene where the raptors are going after the t rex, there is one single frame where the t rex disappears. its not something you would ever notice because its so quick. but someone found it and its all i can think about every time i see this movie.

Like when the cast walks up to the Triceratops, those reactions were legit reactions of amazement. It was their first time seeing it. It's what makes the movie even better. Even when the raptor pokes its head through the wires and scares Ellie, it was another legit scare as she didn't see it yet or know when it would pop out. ^_^

"The have like, this haze in the distance."
The name of the island is Isla Nublar, which means "clouded Island." The haze is a defining feature of the island in the book - the result of volcanic activity on the island - it helps keep Ingen's activities there secret from corporate spies like Dodgeson, and also provides the dinos with some cover to sneak up on their prey. So in addition to being a neat cinematic effect, the haze actually serves a narrative purpose as well 😀

I saw this in theaters 16 times when I was a tween. The book and film have a passing resemblance, the basic premise and character names are the same but the stories vastly different.
For example film Hammond is a sweet grandfather type who seems to be a bit naive. Book Hammond did not want to harm any of the dinosaurs, even at the expense of somebody dying, he blamed everybody else for what happened at the park and was just a mean old guy.
I have probably seen this movie a hundred times, and it never fails to amaze me. The velociraptors in the kitchen, and you're seeing the heads above the counters those are guys in puppet suits. You could do a six hour documentary just on the visual effects

I don't understand how you can be Jens age and have never seen Jurassic Park. It was mind blowing as a kid in theaters in 1993. One of the most memorable theater experiences ever. The reason the effects hold up so well is because of how much isn't CGI. The T Rex breakout scene is one of the most iconic in all of cinema. She's probably going to be surprised that a lot of that was real when she sees the behind the scenes stuff. The raptors were too. I think she'll only appreciate it more with more viewings. It's held up so well and has one of the most satisfying last acts ever. But she is correct that nothing in the series that came after this has come close to matching this film.
