“I got a lot of notoriety” - and a $10k repair bill and a thank you card from Netflix. Thanks for the entertainment, Fielding!
I vote that Fielding & Rutledge host and Fielding demonstrates all the obstacles first.
I second this!
I third this!
That’s how ninja warrior works. I went to a live shoot. There’s 2 guys that show everyone 2-3 different ways to finish each obstacle.
This makes too much sense
Best Idea I've heard all day.
I'm not surprised that Netflix was completely unaware of how Hyperdrive should have been done.
The contestents didn't even get fed properly - that's how much it was run by the 'seat of the pants'. Hopefully next season they can do better
Worst thing about it imo, the commentary. The "panel of experts" talking over every run felt like a bunch of guys that should be commentating E-sports. It's a show for car guys, find somebody who can say something besides some oohs and ahhs after hitting a target or a Fast and Furious reference.
@@Mason_H99 I actually didn't mind it. What are they going to say? I mean the entire show was built around the concept of 'oohs and ahhs'.
They're commentators. I feel like any sport with commentators is all about the same.
They can't really give little details either, because its racing.
I mean, just imagine them being like; LEFT, RIGHT, OH, REAR CORNER BARELY TAPPED IT, LEFT AGAIN, RIGHT AGAIN, HE BACKED UP ABOUT 2 FEET HERE.
I think there was a few parts where they could have specified details more, but otherwise, I can't really complain.
They hyped it up in a generic understandable way.
I think it was fine for non-car people. My gf watched it with me, and she loved the show, and I'm sure they contributed to that fact. Sometimes you don't need to throw enthusiast at everything.
@@Mason_H99 Show for car guys? Maybe it's just the way it was presented but to me it felt like a show for the super casual types that might enjoy the odd Fast and Furious movie but that's about it. Might have come across different with different commentators and presentation but the overall feel to me seemed like it was targeting a wide audience than genuine motoring types.
@@Mason_H99 I guess you don't know who Rutledge Wood is
The more I hear about how that show was run and how the drivers were treated, the less I like it. However, the more I hear Fielding talk the more awesome he seems.
but hey they pay their accommodations like hotel, travel fees and food.
Welcome to show biz
@@renzoarganda6184 Staying in Rochester, NY is cheap af lmao
Exactly.
Met and drove with him at a drift event in mineral wells TX back in 2016, genuinely good dude.
Hyperdrive sounds like it wasn't made by car people at all. These cars aren't something that can be easily replaced.
automotive video game targeting millennials
do know everything about cars?
Insurance...thats the point of it.if they want a show they will pay for damages
@@jimmywoo7875 most of these cars are race cars. do you get the point? repairing them isn't cheap and joining in any competition is isn't cheap either. you had to start from the bottom first. racers takes risk in order to achieve great rewards.
@@renzoarganda6184 i own a 400bhp Gti that cost me more in time and money then your first born will or has..
You can insure performance upgrades thru your insurance...and NETFLIX being a billion dollar company better have some good insurance if they want ppl and the expensive cars they own to participate in the show and expect Actual car guys to watch it...
NOW DO YOU GET THE POINT?
Hyperdrive was an interesting mini-series with many 'omfg' moments. My favorite was when the elderly gentleman hyped up his 'skill' and he made a derogatory generalized statement towards the other younger drivers. Then he wrecks his corvette. I was laughing so hard my dog ran into the room to see 'wtf' was going on.
Dude was about as boomer as can be lmao
I’ve crewed for that dude at SCCA, and that’s exactly how he is
The people at Netflix are not car people. They’re “this can be red” people.
But sometimes they can improve. if they have help from racing organizers for next season.
amazing vinwiki reference
"red is fast"
hahahahahahahahahhahahaha that episode was so funny
It's actually kinda sad. The least they could do is hire some automotive consultants who do know what they're talking about lol.
They really handicapped everyone by not letting people learn the track
I'm sure it was part of their strategy for the show, but I agree.
Well. Non-car people making a show aimed at car people. Not realizing car people know how racing and cars work.
Wouldn't it have been rather boring if they all knew the course perfectly and run it without incident? Drama makes for $$$!
If anyone crashes in practice and ruins their car its going to mess everything up, and it's much better to have the crashes on film.
@@MODNTUNE They could have done a recce in a golf cart. Not knowing the track is crazy.
Honestly, Fielding and the Japanese Drifter were my favourite participants.
You Mean Atsushi Taniguchi
Diego Higa was the sickest, so much consistency
@@MIKEK3NT agree
For reals!
same here
Fielding was the best contestant in my opinion! They should def bring him back for season 2!
Aaron Parker
I feel Fielding and Axel were damn near had the same driving style of just send it but Axel was a bit more refined
Hell yea. When he blasted through that container without even flinching 😂 epic
How? He couldn’t keep his foot off of the throttle lol
Best personality by far! Was rooting for him to win the whole time, I couldn’t believe when he slammed his car Into the wall, he had a good run tho
This guy is the very definition of good sportsmanship and determination. Hyperdrive is totally worth a watch if you have not seen it.
Just remember that it isn't motorsport as much as "Wipeout on Wheels".
@@whollymindless great description and that's not to take anything away from the drivers or the show. It was a lot of fun to watch and used such diverse skills chained to together that you just couldn't get in a motorsport.
“I was driving as much as I could and I ran out of talent somewhere.” Great way to look at it.
It was when he went into the wall backwards lol
Honestly this dude was probably the most entertaining person to see in the show. All the other guys were super serious about it. I liked the "Shit, oh well!" mentality lol
In my opinion, The Leveler was too much. It wasn't a real test of driving skills. I think it was just eye candy for non-car enthusiasts.
but in the early rounds. it test drivers courage.
I think its a test for feeling out your car, control, etc.
I think the spotter is what made it more random. Then it becomes about who has the best spotter.
Also, clearly they didn't consider the weight of the vehicles. IMO, people like shredder and some of the other ones had huge issues because their cars were gutting and lightweight AF.
The heavier cars were able to balance in the middle, the lighter ones weren't.
I mean, when your car is 3500 pounds with a few hundred pounds stripped VS A 2500 pound car, yeah, it makes a difference in balancing.
Not to mention the size of the cars in balancing.
So really, it was less about the feel for the cars, and more about who had the BEST car for balancing + the best spotter.
So yeah, I think the leveler was a good idea in concept, but pretty flawed in use. Its not fair due to the weight of the vehicles, the size, sensitivity, etc.
However, with all of that being said, I think that if they removed elements of the show that took away the RNG and made it pure skill, I wonder if it'd have the same appeal.
Surely watching people get frustrated, or you getting frustrated yourself that your favorite driver took a 2 minute time penalty because of a stupid leveler, it would make you more involves in the process.
So I don't know, I'm 50/50 on it.
Is it skillful? Not really. But is there something cool about RNG factored into a competition? Kind of.
Its less about being fair, and more about being eye-catchy and bad luck/circumstances.
It creates a totally different dynamic and really created the uniqueness of the show, otherwise it'd just be about drifting into targets and doing donuts. Cool, but not as heart-pulling as your favorite driver going because of some shit leveler.
@@ViolentMLG what elements you mean the water obstacles?
I get what you mean but I disagree It tested the driver and cars skills as well as the spotter it was the most game changing obstacle
@@shaylan1776 yeah also patience is tested in here as well
It was really cringe when that Omar guy hitted the targets with the door, but now that i know it was Fielding's idea i can only laugh about it! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah knowing it was fieldings idea makes it funny as hell lol
I am so glad that Fielding got to showcase his real personality on the show. I hope they bring him back on a second series.
Ed should be a commentator!
You gotta get litebrite on the channel sometime. Brittany and Kevin have some great stories from hyperdrive and there whole life is a bit of an adventure in their jeep
@@modestscrub4667 Haha idk bout that one. Hyperdrive is supposed to be about intense drama and uncertainty, something that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Ed would just make a lot of witty and sarcastic, albeit funny, remarks. I do think they should get car people to commentate though,
@@jonathanfisher3916 Lite Brite is paid to promote different products. Nothing wrong with that, but there are plenty of you tubers that once they got a subscriber base became paid shills.
@@fremontwright7623 SHUT UP!
If they do a hyper drive 2 they should lose the water elements. That was just plain stupid to me and made me drop the series.
don't worry one one obstacle is removed during the season
I'm so glad the lady wasn't seriously injured, that was nerve racking to watch. 😬
Yeah I agree let them all loose
Agreed, they should make it 100% about driving, get rid of that leveler bs also.
@@nathanharrod9326 i don't think some drivers will like that because one driver figured it out by their own.
Fielding Shredder's S14 and Atsushi Taniguchi's JZS171 were the best looking cars on the show.
Well, when it started anyway.
@@AalbertTorsius The damage made it better to me lmao. It added so much character.
For me these two and Joao Barions car were the best looking but everyone had a nice looking car
I worked the set as the mechanics for the show with The Little Speed Shop! was a great time all the driving was real. Me at 6:25 torquing the wheel on omars car
Another local.
Nice, I work up the street from TLSS. Kevin and Jill are great.
LMAO savage Omar is no threat @4:35
i mean if the man couldnt do a donut then hows he supposed to come flying in sideways to hit a target😂
This show seems like it was designed to ruin people's cars.
some motorsport also can ruin someone else car due to lack of skill or modification, devevlopnent of the car.
that was so sringe to watch, the water, at these amount made me quit watching it it ws a total turn off.
@@mrjm6752 walk on water?
That's why hooptie, hornet, & lemons type racing was invented. (Or other low budget race series.)
Build cars you can sacrifice, but try not to intentionally destroy or cause others to do the same.
These classes also help get new racers started into motorsports that might not otherwise because of budget....
It was definitely a show for non car people
Should Netflix make Hyperdrive 2? Should they bring back Fielding?
We need to get Westin Champlain on the show
No season 2
Been waiting for a couple years it feels like. All these good shows get a one and done run. I'd settle for another season of fastest car, with Ed and the merci on the season of course.
Shouldnt've made Hyperdrive 1, wont be able to find any cheap RWD cars now
Absolutely!!!
Loved his reverse entry on that head 2 head race, that whole run was the greatest part of the series.
Can’t believe he almost didn’t get onto the show
Would love to have a beer with this guy. Talk anything and it would still be fun but to hear him talk about the behind the scenes and how he just “went for it”. I like that attitude. He showed up, did what he had to do and the challenges that he had to face with his car. He still went for it. He knew what got got himself into but still just was like “let’s see what happens”. Beer worthy convo for sure.
Fielding and Parker were my favorite. Parker works for Donut Media and they did a whole episode on his car. Turns out he's really good with rotary engines and his car is a total beast. He also made his own custom body kit for his RX7
It was cheesy at times but I really enjoyed it. Would definitely watch a second season. Would watch it even more with Fielding in it.
i didnt like that half the people couldn't even drift
@@ss11111ss That's because Netflix never told anyone it had drifting lol, they invited drag cars for the show, it made no sense, some of the people behind the show had no clue what they were doing.

I agree. If they had just had commentators who actually knew cars it would have been so much better.
@Charlie Vetsworth welcome to the internet buddy, your definitions mean nothing here
I didn't know Omar had 8 RUclips accounts but he just used them all to dislike this video.
Brett Bilger he just made another because it’s at 9 now
21, he keeps making them 🤣🤣🤣

@@sufferr2914 what he has said on RUclips alone and how he treats people negates any of his feelings.
You guys need to watch Omar’s vinwiki video. In it he explains that his Mercedes wasn’t meant to be the car the he drove on the show. He was going to take his viper but he got in an accident a month before taping and had to get a new car. He had an E break in his Mercedes but it broke during filming. So he couldn’t drift at all and was just joking. I have met him irl and he is super nice. He never acted like he was good at drifting, all he wanted to do was have fun. Fielding even said that Omar was a great guy
What a good behind the scenes look into the show
His reverse entry into that brick wall had me jumping off the couch.....thought he was done for sure, and I don't just mean his car....so many potential injuries from something like that and him walking away is a good testiment to how well some of those cars are put together
Literally was rooting for this guy to win it. His devil may care attitude was surely fun to watch! Thanks, Fielding!
He definitely had the most fun on the show and it seemed to piss everyone else off lol
As someone who does motorsports as a hobby and has also (as part of my profession) directed a competition reality type thing...wow this must've been so difficult to set up and I can promise you that the production team definitely had a list of about 20,000 issues/concerns and things they are figuring out of which maybe 7 overlapped with the hundreds of things the competitors would care about. Pretty impressive show but definitely for a more general audience. Would love to see them do it again and make it more of a gear head thing.
they better pay you next time
I watched 'Hyperdrive' during the pandemic shutdown, I was rooting for Fielding
Fielding was the most fun to watch! That does not give two fucks!😂 He just drives balls to the wall! I also liked the French guy and the Japanese drift master😜
Dude that show was freaking amazing! Was rooting for you and the French dude In the charger 🙌🏽
They went on to drive drift week if you haven't seen some people's videos of that. At least I think the guy was French in the corvette. Haven't seen hyperdrive so... but drift week was pretty sick!
man, my heart broke when the Charger broke down for good, it was my favourite car in the show
It's crazy watching it the competitors seemed to do very well for having zero test laps on the course prior to running it. Fielding was so much fun to watch.
I just watched Hyperdrive, Shredder was insane!
The best moment was when he said, "so your telling me there's a chance" xD
Fun to watch. Fielding was definitely one of the best competitors on. Really hope it gets picked back up for another season!
The other guy in the Mustang might have won, but not many remember his name. Fielding Shredder placed third, but he was THE most fun to watch! You could feel his raw passion when he'd throw that loud gorgeous Silvia around the corners and just go pedal to the metal! I was rooting for him from start to finish and was really disappointed when he didn't win, but that wasn't his fault because he was the most entertaining and that was what this show was about! If they do a season 2, Fielding absolutely has to be there! He was what kept me glued to the show! 😂
Fielding was my favorite too! Very fun to watch him drive.
The takeaway: “Fielding set Omar up to be the Casey Anthony of Hyperdrive.”
YEAH it's so funny that was all Fielding's idea LOL
Lollollllll thats pretty funny. I think the door trick was ingenious. No other way he could hit the targets on his own
Fielding Shredder, Omar came on here and owned that trick. I personally thought it was brilliant but he garnered a lot of hate for that maneuver. Pretty sure Omar is the 2nd most hated guest on VINwiki.

I think the whole premise of the show was to see which driver was the best at driving in any circumstance without needing to practice any course
Maybe not practice the corse, but I think there should’ve been a week of practice for the different surfaces
If that was the idea they’d all be driving the same car. It was a silly show made by non car people to try and get car people to watch. In the end most car people didn’t care for it and non car people didn’t care.
