FYI ------Hey , I just got an email back from Master Built asking about a battery pack to attach to the cooker/timer unit . They said that the unit is be plugged into the electrical plug at the house. When i asked about being away from the house cooking , and what type of battery pack to use then , they COULD NOT ADVISE of any... I got the impression of a long extension cord.

how were you able to get yours to work? that cable is only rated at 0.6A @ 12v, the wall power brick supplies 2A @ 12v to power the fan. Mine just shuts down because it can't supply enough current.
I also went with the solar power bank as the energy from the sun is at least dissipated better unlike non-solar power banks that just absorb the energy destroy the unit

I purchased the DJROLL Portable Solar Charger with Dual USB & Type-C Port 5V/3A Output, IP66, and the DC 5V to DC 12V USB Voltage iGreeley Step-Up Converter Cable. I've used it twice and it performed flawlessly. After a 15+ hour cook only 1 of the 4 power status lights went out. It was still going strong. Thanks for the video Tom.

Hi Tom. I have a pack similar that can work to charge a car battery. However when I tried to hook it up to my Akorn, it wouldn’t power on. The power bank has a 5V-2.1A and smart 5V-2.4A/9V-2A USB. I used the cord in the video and nothing. When I used a regular Anker phone charger, it worked. Any thought?

Late on the video but holy cow that's brilliant! My milwaukee battery pack adapter pushes out 5v and the masterbuilt powersource steps down 110v to 5.9v. Im wondering if that .9 will make a difference.
Also.. i grabbed the wrong powersource while tinkering, and ran a 110v step down to 12v@1.5 amps and the fan ran fast enough to cool the room. Any feedback on running it at 12v even thiugh its still at 1.5 amps?
Klotesmods are awesome by the way!

The Fanntik is a game changer. No, it's a game eliminator. I hated having the grill up close to the house so I could use the power outlet. Plus, having it plugged in always seemed a bit of a cheat - sort of like an electric grill. Now, I can play out in the far corner of the garden like I did with my Weber. I just did about three hours cook, plus warm up, and used only 13% of the capacity. I didn't even charge it; it came with 78% charge. This thing could easily handle a 16 hr cook. Terrific lead. Thank you.

Nice demo Tom. There are other videos out there on using power stations with pellet grills. The power connection on the Masterbuilt gives you the USB connection option that a pellet grill wouldn't. Plus, I'm not sure a small power bank like that could handle the amperage required for the ignition sequence. And, if you lose power during a cook on a pellet grill, it's not as easy plug it back in and go. Looks like a check on the gravity fed smoker column vs. a pellet grill.

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ

Similar problem when fan runs continuously for awhile (like during startup)... I suspect it is the USB converter (5 to 12v) overheating due to amperage, it gets hot. At temperature, the fan only kicks in occasionally and the converter isn't hot. Need to consider another converter to test (I bought another pro converter, not iGreely, intended for pro audio devices with supposedly higher amperage, but maybe not a good fit).

Some battery packs will shut off if the device plugged into them doesn't draw enough power. The Char griller may not pull enough power when the fan is off, so the battery pack shuts down because it isn't seeing anything drawing juice from it. I have a feeling that the cheaper and dumber the battery pack is, the better it may be in this case. As long as it puts out at least 5V 2A for the adapter cable.
