The Mahomes effect... Mahomes came out and scored 2 TDs right out of the gate. The Ravens threw the game plan out the window and thought this would be a shootout. 17-7 at halftime Mahomes wanted the win more than stats. No 50/50 balls no reckless throws no fumbles just flip the field and let your D go to work. That is what they did and they sealed the win.

Brady won with what he had his first 6 years. Then he gets Moss and Welker immediately goes from 25 to 50 TD's. Makes you wonder what if he had a Kelce or Hill those early yrs. Tom did it for 20+ years then went to Tampa at 43 and won it without Belichick on a team that knew nothing about winning. He said he was playing till 45 and we all thought he was delusional but he did it and dominated for the majority of his 40's. Brady entered the league when you could still plaster the QB without worrying about getting flagged, whereas all you have to do these days to get hit with a personal foul is look at the quarterback funny. Plus, Brady had Belichick as his head coach, a guy who has as much wherewithal on the offensive side of the ball as a sumo wrestler does with ballet. Mahomes, meanwhile, has one of the greatest offensive minds ever as his head coach. Not only is it way too soon to claim Mahomes is the GOAT (take a deep breath, Colin), but context - specifically, the era in which a given QB played - matters a great deal.

Here’s the issue. Before anyone would admit Brady was the goat, they said he has to win 4 rings to beat Montana. He gets 4, and then they said he needs 5. All the meanwhile, people always said he’s only do this because of the system, bill belichick. He can’t win in the NFC. Only because of the AFC East.
Brady leaves, wins a ring in the NFC. People still won’t admit it lol. Mahomes has 2 rings, haven’t played without top tier talent, and hasn’t move conferences. Yet people say he’s the goat? Hmmm doesn’t add up.

☝️This. People get caught up in the moment and assume things are going to stay the same for Mahomes. It may not. Andy Reid could retire, Travis Kelce ages and Mahomes could go the rest of his career without another superbowl appearance.

It’s because neither Brady nor Montana was clearly better than the other talent-wise or stat wise at that point, so the 5th ring was needed. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. It’s possible he could go on and win 4 more superbowls and play into his mid 40s still winning. And if rings make you the GOAT then go ahead and tell me that Bill Russell is the NBA GOAT… you can’t because you know it’s Jordan even if Jordan has 6 rings to Russell’s 11. I like Patrick and one day he might be the goat. But to put him in the conversation with Brady this early is complete insanity. Brady was never the most talented, that’s not what made him the goat. What made him the goat was his consistent domination for more than 2 decades, 10 superbowl appearances and 7 wins. Also the most clutch QB ever. Ppl are just prisoners of the moment.

    • @3512250

Absolutely incorrect bud! Bill russell didn’t play in the modern era. Not even close to the competition then nba had in the 80s and 90s. It’s actually the other way around. Brady first half of his career played in a much tougher era than the 2 hand touch we see now. So it’s much much much easier for today’s players. Also the definition of greatest is who accomplished the most over the longest period of time considerably above the rest. And that’s Tom Brady. If mahomes wins 8 superbowls and has all the stats postseason and regular season then he’ll be the goat. Unless that happens, by definition and by pure math he obviously wouldn’t qualify for that title 😉

I've seen a lot of comparisons to how Brady started his career but that's not really the right way to look at it. Brady's career was kinda werid because he was one of the few athletes who's resume was better in his 30s than his 20s. Brady was doing all-time legendary things at the same age most guys retire. So I still think it's way too early to make a call with Mahomes. He could match Brady's career at the end, but it's just as likely that his body starts to break down into his 30s. His play style is more likely to age compared to Brady's.
Brady's GOAT status isn't just 7 rings. It was 20 years of top of the league, high-end QB play with wildly different rosters and unbelievably clutch moments that culminated in every record imaginable. I think Mahomes is capable. But GOAT isn't a race. It's a marathon. If he ever overtakes Brady it's because he continues this pace for another 15 years, long after Kelce and Reid leave him. That's the challenge ahead of him.

He was the missing piece, not the only piece.
Also if you base your GOAT argument on who beat whom in the playoffs, then both Manning brothers (2-0 for Eli & 3-2 for Peyton) are better than Tom Brady, as are Nick Foles (1-0), Matthew Stafford (1-0), and Dak Prescott (1-0). The only one of those an argument could be made and has been made for is Peyton Manning because of his historically best 5 MVPs, 2 of which came on the backs of a pair of seasons that each could be considered the best of all time (2004 with the Colts and 2013 with the Broncos).

No. Does he have more division titles? No. Does he have more conference titles? No. Does he have more Super Bowl titles? No. Does he have more Super Bowl MVP's? No. Does he have more wins? No. So what's the basis for him being better? Mahomes is AMAZING and well on his way to being the GOAT, no question... but TWENTY THREE seasons can't just be tossed out the window for a guy who has only played six. Let's be honest, Tampa was an elite team w/o him, but Brady came in and stopped all the stupid penalties and the turnovers and dominated because of it. It's considered a slight, but he was the definition of a "game manager". Brady was good skill-wise, not great, but if you are ALWAYS good, never make mistakes, and always available you will win a lot of games/championships.

Don’t let the Ravens coaching staff off the hook. Yes Mahomes was efficient but the Ravens were unrecognizable. Completely off their element and identity. What a strange championship Sunday.

You would think that Colin spent 10 minutes talking about how much better Patrick Mahomes is than Tom Brady to read these comments. He simply made one mention that he is the best quarterback he’s ever seen. In terms of the pantheon of the best quarterbacks, Tom Brady is currently the undisputed greatest quarterback of all time. In my opinion Mahomes will not catch him for accolades and records, but it’s silly to spend all this time speculating. Let him play to his mid-40s, win eight Super Bowls, and eclipse all of his passing records before we give him that mantle. By the way, you guys should stop using the idiot, acronym G.O.A.T. I know you think that it’s cool and clever to use shorthand in sports-talk, but it’s corny and dumb. The goat is actually the opposite of the hero. The goat is the one who blows the team’s chances and loses the game like Bill Buckner, and Scott Norwood. I wish we would retire that stupid acronym, and just say all four words: greatest of all time.

And I want you brothers to look at the double standard in the comment section. Remember, Josh Allen has zero Super Bowl wins and zero appearances and they told you he was the best quarterback in the league now they’re telling you Patrick Mahomes has to win nine more Super Bowls to be even considered the greatest ever are you starting to see the biased?… Wake up

  • @alteredendeavor

Wow, major recency bias. Brady played and won in an era where you could mug receivers and drill the QBs and he won in today's game. The level of competition was consistently better too.

I've been an NFL fan since 1972, Really you guys going to hide whats going on in the NFL, Professional Players that get paid millions of dollars and they are making overthrows, underthrows during playoff games, refs not calling penalties against the Chiefs defense and the same in the 49er/Lions game, all because they didn't want to see a Superbowl game between Lions and Ravens, definitely fixed games by the refs and players who are probably being paid money to throw the games, this is like really bad, I ve never seen so much wrong doing by the NFL refs and the Multi million dollar players. The fix was in, Started in the Dallas/Green Bay game Dak throwing 2 deleberate INTS for TD, and filtered down to the rest of the games, this never happened in the 70's, 80's or 90's of the NFL until the greedy NFL decided they wanted to get more money, will greed is the evil in the NFL, the corruption will eventually come out, these refs will eventually speak out on all the wrong they were told to do. Fixed games are the lowest, and the NFL has stooped to its lowest. Very disappointed with the league and the players, No longer have any faith in the game of National Football League.

Tom Brady onwards require asterisks beside their stats. They are NOT playing the same game as Joe Montana was playing. You can't touch the QB now. Joe Cool is the best I ever saw play the position, and I'm a Bears fan. Peyton Manning was a choker. He sucked in the SB he did win (over us). On my bench, I have Jim McMahon. Never knew when he was beaten. 25-0 between 1984-1987. A record of consecutive winnign starts that will never be beaten.

  • @retrocny5625

Recency bias plays a huge part in this. If we were still able to witness Tom Brady in his prime every weekend like we could 15 years ago, we wouldn't be having this conversation. We'd be saying Mahomes has to catch Brady first in terms of rings. And he still has to. Brady isn't out on the field anymore doing special things, so it's easy to look at Mahomes and say man, he has no equal. Fact of the matter is though... Tom Brady played Patrick and the Chiefs twice in the postseason, and he beat him both times. Once in the AFC championship, and once in the super bowl. And he didn't just beat Patrick in the super bowl, he blew him out. The two times the NFL "GOATS" played each other, Brady came out on top. He beat him in arrowhead, hell he even beat him on two different teams... and Tom was in his 40s for crying out loud. I mean, you can't gloss over all that lmao. It's recency bias. Mahomes is very special, we all know it...but way too early to be having this conversation. Brady is the GOAT. For right now.

    • @RD-sp5us
      @RD-sp5us 7 месяцев назад

Hear what you're saying but you're neglecting to mention a couple of facts.
      1. KC'S O line was mostly 2nd and 3rd stringers. Evident in Mahomes having to run for his life on virtually every snap. Despite that, he still made throws that none of his receivers could hold on to. The best throw in NFL history, imo was to Jerrick McKinnon, while diving to his right full stretch horizontal to the ground, hitting him square in the facemask in the endzone. He dropped it btw. Please tell me Brady can make that throw?
      2. KC'S defense was bottom 5 that year and the Bucs 2nd. So if we are going to compare QB's, the playingfield not exactly level is it? You had Brady with an armchair ride, sitting back in the pocket and Mahomes running for his life against the top2 defence with a depleted O line on almost every play.
So all we can say is the Bucs won SB55 with Brady as the QB, but by no means did Brady outplay Mahomes. Reverse roles and what do you get? It's not crazy to think Mahomes hangs 60 on Brady. At least! So don't make out as if Brady beat Mahomes in a shoot-out going toe to toe.

In fairness (and I was pulling for KC) Lamar looked good. The touchdown that he threw that was punched out, was phenomenal. The taunting penalty that moved them out of field goal range may have cost him the game….. the Chiefs defense was getting pressure, but Lamar shed several sacks that would have taken down any other QB
