Space Jam was my childhood, and even as I've grown older, and it's appeal has dimmed (Especially because of the superior and underrated Looney Tunes: Back in Action), you never forget childhood joys.
The Mirror Has Two Faces is Ok. It's now notable for being the movie that gave Lauren Bacall her only Oscar nomination (Really?)
I haven't seen The English Patient, but what's scary is that Seinfeld has probably ruined it in the eyes of many. Thank you Jerry, Larry David, and Julia Louis Dreyfus for that LOL.

So many kids loved this movie. I figured siskel & ebert would love this as they live & work in chicago, & bill Murray also hails from chicago. I wish mj made more movies as ebert & siskel said. Plus a hit song came from this I believe I can fly. Maybe I was too young to appreciate the English patient but i fell asleep watching it. I felt it was too long & boring. Maybe i should check it out now that I'm an adult. Also wasnt this one of the many movies Harvey Weinstein bullied to win best picture. Same w/ Shakespeare in love & gweneth Paltrow winning best actress. She really only made a few movies & vanished into the 2000s

TMHTF is the movie that finally ruined Streisand for me as a film artist.
I realized she's an egotistical fraud - always gravitating towards the ugly duckling role. If only everyone realized she's a beautiful swan all along only then we can get a fully evolved film presence.

  • @5andup

    1. The Mirror Has Two Faces - An innocuous and contradicting film about one's search for ideal love, with Barbra Streisand's self-conscious performance in the lead. S&E are agreeable on their praise for Oscar nominee Lauren Bacall (as Streisand's mother). 👎
    2. The English Patient - Reminiscent of character-driven and time-spanning epic dramas of old Hollywood (Doctor Zhivago; Lawrence of Arabia; Out of Africa), this emotionally-driven Michael Ondaatje adaptation (a winner of nine Oscars including Best Picture) boasts an engaging performance by Oscar Best Supporting Actress winner Juliette Binoche as well as luscious photography by John Seale (who also won an Oscar for his efforts). 👍👍
    3. Breaking The Waves - A towering central performance by Emily Watson (a role that was offered to, and declined by, Helena Bonham Carter) enlivens this astounding character study about the thin line between love and desire. One of 1996's 10 best films. 👍👍👍
    4. Space Jam - Thinly-plotted movie with Michael Jordan trying his best to act believable. 👎
