They forgot that Chris Farley made some cameos in the Wayne's World movies which they gave two thumbs up to. So, technically they did liked a movie with him in it!

Chris Farley was funny and definitely in the tradition of great onscreen comics. The problem is he needed a foil and/or a better type of framework to reel in and give context to his style of comedy. They had great writers on SNL when he was on, and he and Spade played off each other perfectly. They were the Laurel and Hardy of the 90s. When he didn’t work with him (Beverly Hills Ninja), Farley was left holding the bag. He had to make stock material and plot conveniences work as opposed to just being himself. He seemed deeply sad and desperate to be liked and I wish he knew how much his fans appreciated him.

They wanted Happy Gilmore to not be angry. Thats one of the main themes of the entire movie. The hockey fights, the batting cages, you cant make Happy happy. It ruins the movie.

I agree and wouldn’t change anything about the movie I love it. I think Siskel liked Adam Sandler’s quieter sweet moments and Happy Gilmore provided lots of those. I think in those moments he thought Sandler was good at acting and he was. I think it was the mean spirited stuff that led to the crude humor he and Ebert disliked. I agree if Happy were Happy it wouldn’t be as funny. I just think Siskel wanted to cut Sandler some slack and realized he could be a good actor in those sweet moments. He trashed him in Billy Madison but here saw the potential that Ebert would call success with Punch Drunk Love. Sadly Siskel missed that one before dying. I think he also would have loved Hustle. It may be a straight to Netflix Sandler movie to some but it’s amazing and I think it’s his best performance ever because he balances comedy and drama. Siskel knew here Sandler could act well and acted well in this movie. And while he has made a few bad ones he has proven to be an incredible actor also with The Meyrowitz Stories Uncut Gems Hustle and You’re So Not Invited to my Bat Mitzvah with his family who are also good actors in their own right. Gene knew Sandler would get better . It’s just sad he missed the better Sandler. I love Happy Gilmore as a great comedy but in terms of acting range Sandler has only gotten better with time. His career can be uneven but he has proved an incredible actor on more than one occasion.

The best part of the late shift is kathy bates as helen kushnick, who I heard was actually mild in the movie compared to the real woman! When she left the movie I was not interested. I love the late night behind the scenes stuff so I liked it.

The Late Shift is good if you just want to know the story behind the battle for Carson's throne. Yet on other hand, you never really get to know Leno and Letterman. I guess the producers were nervous about possible libel suits from Jay or Dave.

Didn't much care for the Late Shift at all. Kept being distracted by The Chin.
Still, haven't been much of a fan of either, really. Letterman hasn't really been interesting years before he gave up the throne -- I much preferred his earlier shows when he was able to do more physical gags -- and I never really liked Leno at all. And I understand Johnny was a REAL asshole behind the scenes.
If I have to choose a late night host I REALLY liked and admired, I'd have to go back to Steve Allen.

Yup, THERE'S your movie......a REAL 'biopic' about Letterman, his early years of struggling before finally getting to NBC, and then CBS....but more importantly, the REAL dirt on what was going on behind the scenes as he rose to the 'top' (think of all the fascinating stories that could be told (by those that were there) about EVERYTHING that went on at NBC and CBS, when the cameras WEREN'T rolling!!), ESPECIALLY the sordid drama between Letterman, and all the women he had affairs with that eventually came to light when he "came clean" with his admission of guilt, in the wake of being blackmailed !!
Ah, but what am I thinking.......who would ever want to see THAT ?? 🤔
