Beautiful job on the video. The flowers on this trail were spectacular. Fancy looks like a different dog than she did in earlier videos. She looks much more confident and relaxed. Your Mom is awesome and this will be a beautiful memory for her.

Hey Dixie, Happy 60th Birthday to your Mum! I just wanted to let you know that I, like many others have been inspired by your many videos of your through hikes! At the start of this year, I decided to hike the Tour du Mont Blanc (in memory of my brother Steve), and when I haven't been able to get out and hike, due to work, weather, or the time it takes to get anywhere with any serious elevation gain (from London), I've been on the cross-trainer and the stair-climber at the gym, watching your PCT episodes with the Sierra Nevada hike programme on the machine! I just finished the 35th episode last week, and I start the TdMB in 10 days. I've hiked a couple of 26 mile routes in a day in the last month, and I feel ready. Thanks for inspiring me! Dixie you're an absolute inspiration to not only me but I've recently shown your triple crown videos to my gf who was convinced she was "not a hiker" to actually being open to the possibility of her doing these thru hikes and to not be scared of starting something just because she doesn't think she can do it we both love watching your videos and now she's even all excited over the gear and learning more and everything. She even had her first camping trip with me this summer that went great!

Yeah for you and your mom! I would love to go with my mom to do this stuff but her age (82) and health does not permit her to do anything. So, I am going to hike the AT and do a half and half. I will do half this year and half next year. And she will follow along with Facebook and my spot gps!! She’s excited for us and this journey “we’re” going on❤️❤️
I remember when my mother was about 77 or so she told me that she "climbed Mt. Washington (NH)." I stared at her in disbelief as she's always hated exercise and did as little as possible. When I questioned her she said that she "climbed the wooden stairs" that went from the parking lot to the Observation Building and Visitor Center that is on the top.

I have watched this several times and the one about Fancy Mae's Gear List. Our 1 year old rescued Norwegian Elkhound will be hiking the TRT with us this year. So I was taking notes. She cracks me up the way she hides under the covers like a kid who doesn’t want to get up and go to school. I grew up on Mt Hood and Lolo Pass, my old stomping grounds. I used to swim in Eagle Creek. Dixie, your videography is so fine. I love the details that you catch that most would just lumber right past. You really notice the intricacy of nature, and share the magic. Hello Dixie and Mom, The "rabbit trail" got me here tonight. I was reading an AT trail journal, and had started the journal at its last entry and then read selected entries, then figured I would start at the beginning. Anyway, one entry mentioned you, Dixie, doing trail magic and he went on to say you were apparently famous on RUclips. So, I thought I would check up on you, as I do from time to time. Glad to see all is well with you. Glad you are out hiking, and your Mom with you. My two favorite...my only two hiking companions, are my two sons. One just turned 23, the other is 27. We are day hiking the AT together...OAB, no backcountry camping. Campground camping, (Loft Mountain, Big Meadows, Shenandoah River State Park, and our last trip we camped at Bears Den Hostel (tented). We are probably opposite of you and your Mom. I am not sure if they would be hiking the AT if not for me. Literally, good sons as they are, they are doing it for me. I always ask the oldest son, did he enjoy the hike. He always says something like...I don't know if enjoy is the word. I always say, You know you did. We laugh. I tell him, I go to the movies with you. He does not think hiking and going to a movie is comparable. I am a lucky Mom. I will soon be 59. My greatest joys are being with my sons. I am glad you and your Mom are enjoying being together, even if the weather at times can be less enjoyable, the time together is. On our last hike, I did mention you to a family. We had hiked down to Sam Moore Shelter from Bears Den Hostel and back to Bears Den Rocks. Before we were to continue on to Pine Grove Road, Snickers Gap, I wanted my picture at Bears Den Rocks. There was a family there. It looked like a Mom with several teenage children. I told her we were hiking the AT. As they asked questions, I told here our hike today would be about 7.4 miles. They were in awe. They kept going on about me being able to hike 7.4 miles. When I told them our longest hike was about eleven miles, they were in unbelief. Having to turn the adulation away from me I told them of you, Dixie, who I thought had hiked 60 miles in a 24 hour period. I could not remember exactly, but, I told them you did 40 miles for sure, but, I thought 60 was what you really did. They were totally awed. She took my picture for me, and my sons, who usually prod me away from conversing to long, were ready for us to finish our hike. I watched the family who took my picture leave and hike back to where they parked at Snickers Gap. I was in awe of them too. They were out enjoying the day together too; a shorter hike for them, but, I expect, all the same as memorable. Glad to see you hiking, and you and your Mom enjoying being together. Many happy trails to you both.
As always, I love watching your trail vids. I'm glad to see you family's progress. But what I most appreciate is the splendor of the trail, watching most often from a desk or couch; it reminds me of why I hike and fuels planning my next excursion

As a youngster I got to trout fish with my parents and Grandparents in the Eagle Creek area. Over the years, many outdoor calendars have featured Eagle Creek, so beautiful. You hiked through my stomping grounds. I grew up in Hood River and spent many a time in LoLo pass. Beautiful there. As a kid, I was a member of YCC and worked on the PCC trail doing maintenance. Thanks you brought back some good memories.

So great to see another video and know that you are all ok! Happy Birthday to Mom! Fancy is turning out to be a good dog. I think she is easily frightened because she doesn't see well. I think her vision is diminished in one eye and she can't clearly distinguish things at a distance. Oh! oh! I camped at Whatum Lake! last summer! It was the first time I saw the PCT and I was so excited because of Dixie! Sat zen on the shore. Too cold to swim, tho! Dang! At that point, those were the tallest trees I have ever seen! I was just overawed by them. And the prettiest view of Mt. Hood is up the fire road from the campground. Keep going straight and you get to a ridge with a bare spot where lots of people have camped. Mt Hood in the distance and all the foreground is beautiful flowers. A Holy place. I wanted to camp but was scared to be alone. The rangers spooked me. But next time!

Well happy 60th momma! You passed on your pretty genes to your daughter. So glad Fancy wasn’t sick too long. She cracks me up the way she hides under the covers like a kid who doesn’t want to get up and go to school. I grew up on Mt Hood and Lolo Pass, my old stomping grounds. I used to swim in Eagle Creek. Dixie, your videography is so fine. I love the details that you catch that most would just lumber right past. You really notice the intricacy of nature, and share the magic. Congrats on crossing The Bridge of the Gods! Finally!

Hello Dixie and Mom, The "rabbit trail" got me here tonight. I was reading an AT trail journal, and had started the journal at its last entry and then read selected entries, then figured I would start at the beginning. Anyway, one entry mentioned you, Dixie, doing trail magic and he went on to say you were apparently famous on RUclips. So, I thought I would check up on you, as I do from time to time. Glad to see all is well with you. Glad you are out hiking, and your Mom with you. My two favorite...my only two hiking companions, are my two sons. One just turned 23, the other is 27. We are day hiking the AT together...OAB, no backcountry camping. Campground camping, (Loft Mountain, Big Meadows, Shenandoah River State Park, and our last trip we camped at Bears Den Hostel (tented).
We are probably opposite of you and your Mom. I am not sure if they would be hiking the AT if not for me. Literally, good sons as they are, they are doing it for me. I always ask the oldest son, did he enjoy the hike. He always says something like...I don't know if enjoy is the word. I always say, You know you did. We laugh. I tell him, I go to the movies with you. He does not think hiking and going to a movie is comparable. I am a lucky Mom. I will soon be 59. My greatest joys are being with my sons. I am glad you and your Mom are enjoying being together, even if the weather at times can be less enjoyable, the time together is. On our last hike, I did mention you to a family. We had hiked down to Sam Moore Shelter from Bears Den Hostel and back to Bears Den Rocks. Before we were to continue on to Pine Grove Road, Snickers Gap, I wanted my picture at Bears Den Rocks. There was a family there. It looked like a Mom with several teenage children. I told her we were hiking the AT. As they asked questions, I told here our hike today would be about 7.4 miles. They were in awe. They kept going on about me being able to hike 7.4 miles. When I told them our longest hike was about eleven miles, they were in unbelief. Having to turn the adulation away from me I told them of you, Dixie, who I thought had hiked 60 miles in a 24 hour period. I could not remember exactly, but, I told them you did 40 miles for sure, but, I thought 60 was what you really did. They were totally awed. She took my picture for me, and my sons, who usually prod me away from conversing to long, were ready for us to finish our hike. I watched the family who took my picture leave and hike back to where they parked at Snickers Gap. I was in awe of them too. They were out enjoying the day together too; a shorter hike for them, but, I expect, all the same as memorable. Glad to see you hiking, and you and your Mom enjoying being together. Many happy trails to you both.
I just love this trip with your Mom and Fancy. Fancy is precious. So inspiring! Enjoy the journey. :)
As always, I love watching your trail vids. I'm glad to see you family's progress. But what I most appreciate is the splendor of the trail, watching most often from a desk or couch; it reminds me of why I hike and fuels planning my next excursion
Hello Dixie, happy Wednesday to you. Thank you for another beautifully filmed video. I'm happy to hear that Fancy is doing much better. It's a shame that Eagle Creek area is closed. As a youngster I got to trout fish with my parents and Grandparents in the Eagle Creek area. Over the years, many outdoor calendars have featured Eagle Creek, so beautiful. You hiked through my stomping grounds. I grew up in Hood River and spent many a time in LoLo pass. Beautiful there. As a kid, I was a member of YCC and worked on the PCC trail doing maintenance. Thanks you brought back some good memories.

My vet has recommended Pepcid for when my dogs have upset stomachs. We never backpack without it.

Watching your mom be so strong and supportive on this is the most wholesome thing I’ve seen in a long time.
So great to see another video and know that you are all ok! Happy Birthday to Mom! Fancy is turning out to be a good dog. I think she is easily frightened because she doesn't see well. I think her vision is diminished in one eye and she can't clearly distinguish things at a distance. Oh! oh! I camped at Whatum Lake! last summer! It was the first time I saw the PCT and I was so excited because of Dixie! Sat zen on the shore. Too cold to swim, tho! Dang! At that point, those were the tallest trees I have ever seen! I was just overawed by them. And the prettiest view of Mt. Hood is up the fire road from the campground. Keep going straight and you get to a ridge with a bare spot where lots of people have camped. Mt Hood in the distance and all the foreground is beautiful flowers. A Holy place. I wanted to camp but was scared to be alone. The rangers spooked me. But next time!
