Ms. Fitzgerald has a warm, comforting voice that reminds me of simpler days, the love of my mother, just a feeling of joy. I wish I could have seen her perform. I often sing along with her because one can. Her songs are clear, clean, and tell a story. She was magnificent!!
What a flawless singer. The wobblier her vibrato got, the more she made it sound like it had been that way the whole time. Love her instincts always from the 30s all the way through!

I saw her in London in '84, probably as part of the same tour. Sadly, her voice was not what it once had been as is evident here. Unlike Billie, the deterioration in Ella's voice did detract from her performance. Somehow, Billie could always communicate regardless go the condition of her pipes. Ella has always relied on having a magnificent instrument, Bille on her ability to get across the meaning of the lyrics and the feeling in the music. Love Ella though!
In 1955 she was arrested for singing to a integrated audience. There is a picture of her sitting in jail with her head down with another black lady dressed in the most glamorous fur coats. I'm glad you all enjoy her voice as a singer, but if you only knew. Billie Holiday was treated worse.
