    Hello, and good day! I Love your program, and your style of teaching. I've been working with electronics now for about 40 years ( Really as a hobby ) My father started me with it. My first learning experience was with a R/C 5 channel tx, receiver, and 4 servos by Heath Kit. Do you remember Heath Kit? Anyway as long as I can remember I've been tearing electronic appliances apart, but not so much putting back together lol. I Love working with electronics ( Any electronics ) I just wanted to say THANK YOU, and please continue with your great way of teaching.

    Good thing we have people like you. I learn so much but i would appreciate if you give a lesson how to diagnose and fix stereo receivers, amplifiers, domestic ones. I fix them since a lot of years but i always have big problems sometimes and i would like you to give quick tricks to diagnose amplifiers rapidly. Many thank's Sorin.

    Great, informative video - thanks.
    btw - I would not suggest people leave a battery charging on their bench power supply unattended. Not only is best to keep an eye on any charging lithium battery but I have seen a video of someones bench power supply going up in flames for no obvious reason (I have a feeling it was on the EEVBlog?).

    Thank you Sorin! Very informative. I learned a lot and now know what to do when friends give me their stuff to fix and it is dead, and I have no charger. Doing so now with a Lenovo ThinkPad someone left with the power adapter is known to be no good and the laptop will not turn on. First I will charge battery with psu, then test computer...

    at 19:08h we charge with constant current should be with limited current (I think), else voltage will go up to maintain current even at 8.4 Volt or above ?
    but apart from these small points I really love the practical way to look into electronics and I learn all the time, thumbs up Sorin

    since there is no change in the way the battery charges no matter how high you put the voltage, is the same true when you turn the voltage way down?

    Hello Sorin. I have a problem with what you said about using any voltage when you limit the current. I agree that you can do that but that's just the first part of charging. I'm afraid some of the viewers will leave the battery charging with current limit but with a higher voltage than the fully charged voltage and that will kill the cell. You should tell them to limit the current but also the voltage!!!
    Multam fain!

      I think you didn't watch the video to the end because Mr. Sorin said that.

    • @Radek__
      @Radek__ 5 лет назад

      17:48 he told them already about that in this video :)
      But I know what You mean. I bet that a lot of fans here doesn't even have service power supply where you can limit the current. I bet a lot of them want to charge batteries with regular simple chargers. Someone will take a printer charger, then read that it has 24v and 1amp output and will think that it has current limit 1amp and voltage is not imprtant :) It could be nice if Sorin could say that we have to be careful doing it and do not make short on battery because if battery doesn't have an electrionc, then it could make an cell explosion or fire if stays alone. Sorin told about that - but yeah - too quiet.
      for the rest - nice video - i'm enjoyed watching this ;)

      if you let the battery voltage go above 4.3volts - you are creating a bomb!!!! - on a protected cell, you will trip the protection and destroy the battery initially its charged with constant voltage but then must be limited to 4.2v - if you charge 2 cells "in serial mode" and the internal resistance is different in each cell, then you may overcharge one of the 2 cells

    Hi shorin and happy new year. Thank you for your amazing lessons in this chanel . I dont understood one thing... I have xiaomi (redmi note 4) three years now and the battery is perfect . But you say li-ion batteries after 2-3 years is going down. How this battery is still perfect??. My charger is 5V - 2A
    and my battery is 3.85V , Charging Voltag Limit 4,40 V , 4000mAh , Rated Voltage 3,85 V.
    Thanks for you time.

  • @armunro
    @armunro 5 лет назад +2

    Simple way to explain it: no charge, high current, low resistance. fully charged: low current, high resistance. From no charge to full charge the resistence will vary: low resistence to high resistence. electricity is like water: charging voltage needs to higher than battery voltage to allow flow into the battery. if the charging current does not drop then battery is not charging and is defective. think thats the basics.
    What power supply/setup are you using with your computer?

    • @brk932
      @brk932 5 лет назад

      Yes. Same goes with a car battery a conductive sludge forms at the bottom current will continue flowing but the state of charge will remain the same. With lithium batteries a conductive channel forms between the two metal strips.

    That camera battery is acting normally.
    The protection detects an under voltage condition, and cuts the cell off to protect it.
    Just charge the cell above 3.2V, and it will work again.

    • @electronicsrepairschool
      @electronicsrepairschool  5 лет назад +4

      that impossible. If we can say the battery has a very smart charging circuit, should charge with low current up to 3-3.5v, but thats not the case, is taking no power at all. The best way to protect the battery is to open the charge no meter what and charge the cell at least 3.x. Li Ion cells get shorted (not always) if they are under 3v

    What kind off bench power supplys allow current limiting ?

    • @justinspiredfallout
      @justinspiredfallout 5 лет назад

      Any proper bench power supply has a dial for reducing or increasing current. I bought an Eventek from Amazon which has both fine and coarse adjustments for both current and voltage.

    My smps cc/cv psu says that when I use it to charge battery I should use a diode at the output to protect the psu. Do you know how/when a battery can kill a psu and why?

    • @brk932
      @brk932 5 лет назад +2

      If the smps voltage becomes lower than that of the battery a backwards current will flow from the battery to the supply. As the battery charges it increases its voltage and the charging current has to start decreasing till the two voltages become equal and the battery will behave like a charged capacitor. Current always flows from higher potential to lower potential That may also happen if you try to power capacitive/inductive load due to dI/dt (current change) induces back emf. Without a diode any voltage spike will kill the supply.

    • @BeetleJuice1980
      @BeetleJuice1980 5 лет назад

      @@brk932 I understand that. I figured out this:as the battery charges everything is OK, but sometimes you may have a power failure at the mains and at that time the smps shuts down but the battery is still connected (happened to me yesterday)!
      Any idea if a linear power supply has the same danger as an smps?
      Thank you for the reply!
