I am in NYC, zone 7: I have hostas, I have Sarcococca aka fragrant Boxwood; have hardy gingers of different types (Mioga & low growing evergreen ones); rescued Solomon’s seal; I have evergreen false Lily of the Valley, I have had Brunnera but disappeared after three years, I have some rescue azaleas that I found on the street that are quite happy; I have a Chinese paper bush that in the summer will get an hour of sun; & a rescue Hydrangea that did well until last year (severe cold snap after weather in the 40s), Euonymus in a few places & scatterings of Liriope/Lily Turf.

Sounds like a very successful shady haven. Well done. Containers or in the ground plantings? Any special secrets you can share with others? Thx. Coach.

@@YardCoach All in the ground, I forgot to list Japanese Painted Ferns. I have some pots w/Hardy Geraniums, & Saxifrage, & I "fluff" them up w/annuals (Impatiens & Begonias).

THANK YOU! I have a 1989 built home and it's north facing too! I have had so many "shade" plants die over the years. I could really use more videos like this! My home is kind of a L shape or uneven U shape. One side get's a couple hours of morning sun, the side get's a couple hours afternoon and near the door get's NOTHING. It's hard to find plants that like these conditions and to have year round interest and pretty flowers.

But those plants are out there. Thx for commenting.
