You are the best at sewing and explaining what is being done! I have been sewing for7+ decades and you are the best I've ever seen. Keep up your great work!
One of the many things I like about your videos is how you explain what you do when you hit a glitch. It is so helpful. I’ve said it before but will repeat it, you’re the best!
Really great jacket. Normally not a fan of Bomber jackets... But a change of fabric and I really like this one. Not a beginner project but that's good too! Always stay until the end! Who wouldn't?😉 Thank you for all the great projects 🌹🌿💝
So, so cute! Just got a total knee replacement and can’t go to work for 8-10 weeks! Darn, what will I do? I have SEW many ideas and your videos inspire me and help me be brave! I started deconstructing a tunic top to use as a pattern to make new tops out of vintage table clothes! 🙏🏻🤞 Hoping it looks as good in real life as it does in my imagination! Thanks for another great video! 💕
I love the hack for shorting the zipper! Something I have done to extend the too short seam is piece in a section of the other fabric to add a colorblind stripe. I did not know you can steamblock a knit sleeve. Being tall I always struggle with sleeves and pant legs being too short. I love how your jacket came out!!!
Great project. I like the zipper stop idea. I have seen the old stop removed and reused but your technique seems easier. For the ribbing, I might have tried sewing another (fake) seam equidistant from the centre. Thanks again!
Such a lovely bomber jacket! I’m a new subscriber and am enjoying binge watching your videos. Thanks for all of the great tips, techniques, and inspiration.
I have a copy of the same Bomber Jacket pattern. However, I was planning to use denim (from old cotton jeans) to make a jacket. I will have to go back and read the pattern again. I did not realize that I was supposed to use knits. I may never make one now. Your jacket looks soft and beautiful on you.
That pattern is made for woven fabrics, you can absolutely use it with denim! You’ll just need some rib knit for the collar (if you chose the version with no hood), wrists and waist. Most patterns made for woven fabrics can be used with knits (like she did here) they may just feel a bit bigger but most patterns made for knits aren’t suitable for woven fabrics. I hope this helps and you won’t give up on your project! It sounds really lovely!
@@CatherineSews I am SO pleased to hear that! You have such a talent and just a perfect delivery method with your personality and presentation style. I would think you will have to turn people away (or organize a ‘next one’). Many people go on quilt retreats so why not a fitting /sewing/clothing rehab whatever you call it retreat! Happy to help if I can!
@@susanharber6488 Thanks for the encouragement. I think it would be really fun! I’ll make a community post to check for interest. May I use your name when I say where the idea came from?
This is a really cute make❤ all the thrifted stuff is picked over or bought up. Tough times in my area, so good quality thrifted items are expensive. I’ll shop my closet!
Thank you Catherine. So thankful that you do things properly and the items you upcycle look great. I have watched other people and they are not fussy about how things look. Always look forward to seeing what comes next.
WOW! You do make it look easy, but I would be terrified to do that lining and zipper. Maybe after I watched this 4 more times like I do most of your videos when I am up-cycling something. Great Job again. Love the idea and the look!
Thanks Catherine for explaining the tricky bits so well. Would you be able to do a video showing how to cut two pairs of straight jegging to make one pair of a little wider, i don't wish to pass on to a charity shop i would much prefer to be able to wear them. I would really appreciate it.
Catherine, you should be so proud of yourself! This was an intense project, with more than a few challenges, for which you clearly shared your solutions. This video is just packed with helpful explanations and close-ups! Such a great tutorial. The jacket is super cute, too! Thanks for another excellent video!
I like how you give a preview of what you are making. I am so sick of videos that don't even give a clue as to what they are making. I also like how you talk through your process. I have 3 long sweaters that I am searching for a refashion idea for. I like the bomber jacket.
I love the way you show us everything including the mistakes which you then correct so when we do make mistakes we don’t feel so bad and we know how to fix them. If this is the last of your summer woollen knitted videos, I look forward to your spring and summer adaptions. I am based in Jersey in the Channel Islands of the coast of France. May I ask where you are based please? Thank you I just love your videos.
Thank you for another amazing video🤗! By slowly showing us each step and explaining it, I might be able to use several of the techniques. The detailed explanation of the lining process was invaluable to me.Thanks again! I have a question about steaming your sweaters. Are all your sweaters wool? Can you steam block man made fabrics ,like acrylics and polyester? So many of the sweaters I find are mixes and some would definitely be improved by steam blocking in places. Thank you again😊💕
I have been sewing since the 60’s. I just sew, with a sewing machine, across the end of the zipper where I want the zipper to stop. I sew it several sizes. Then I cut off the extra zipper. I cut off the bottom of the zipper, not the top and I sometimes turn the end under if it shows. I still have some of my clothes from the 60’s and 70’s and I have never had a problem.
@@stephaniemoore-fuller9082 It would work if you sew a thread “bar” on each side of the zipper. It would be used instead of taking the time to sew on the metal bar. The tread will last a long time too.
It's not a problem if the slider comes off a separating zipper. You can even take it off and reverse it if you want the zipper to open the other way (i.e. traditional woman's side vs. man's side).
Catherine I love this project and it didn't seem as daunting as it looked at the onset. Thanks for the lesson and inspiration!
WOW! I have the same pattern and was afraid to mae it until I watched this video YOU are the best teacher! thanks💗
So gorgeous. That is the cuddliest bomber jacket. And so flattering. This had demystified a lot of garment construction so many thanks !!!

Sounds to me like you need some physical therapy - such as pressing your foot on your sewing machine pedal? 🤔 😂 Best wishes for a fab recovery…

What a concept...a KNIT bomber! I'm so inspired. I have other bombers but not a knit and I'm so looking forward to doing this.

Amazing - that turned out beautiful! Great job!
Wow, that jacket is amazing. It looks so good, warm, soft and snuggly 👏👏
I really enjoyed this. You explained and demonstrated all the different stages in a clear manner, thank you💖
To manage the off-center seam in the rib, you could create a matching fake seam along the rib to create balance.
