"Oh I can't find a pattern so let's just go with it." You are incredibly talented, making everything look so easy. There are many techniques here that could be so helpful for upcycling. Thank you for sharing this talent every week.
I remember the hours spent with you in highschool, afterschool, you really poured so much knowledge and creativity into me! Not just that, but wisdom too. I am glad to have had a mentor like you and am so happy to see you succeed on this platform and share your talent with the world 😍
I think the skirt looked very nice with the black top and boots! The top is adorable. I loved your comments about experimenting, learning and improving skills even if the final product isn’t something you are completely happy with. I wish more people saw life this way! The secret of why we create and make things. How we change and get better is the actual ‘product’ ❤️
Love your videos. You've inspired me to tackle my huge pile of "not just right" items and see what can be paired together for a new look. I like that you do not do a lot of social talking. You are mainly focused on getting the project completed to your satisfaction. Also like that you fast forward through machine sewing. We get how your doing it without having to watch in real/slow time. I watch a lot of refashion/upcycle videos. YOURS IS THE BEST CHANNEL!
I'm 67 years old and haven't sewn a garment since 7th grade home ec class but your videos are so helpful and easy to follow, that you've inspired me. Our Joanne fabrics is going out of business, so I went and bought a pattern and material and I'm going to give it a whirl. Wish me luck!
I actually like the top better with the skirt than with your jeans. I think the peplum blends in and coordinates with it. I don't like peplums though so take that as you will. The skirt turned out cute. I like the idea of wearing it with a black top. The print mixing is great. Reminds me of a Gunne Sax dress I used to own.
Catherine, I am almost speechless. I am so glad that you stayed with the project. It turned out beautifully. I agree with you, a large part of what I love about upcycling is, the enjoyment of the process. Luv your skirt and top. 👏👏👏
I love the top, but I would prefer a longer ruffle at the waist. The skirt is cute, and of course my twist is having the fabrics in opposite placement. The darker on the outer sides. It would have been great it there was more of the darker fabric, so more panels, but narrower. I feel that would make it flow together better. I'm amazed that the fabric patterns "match" up so well. Really cute remake. Thank you for all the little tricks and tips you continue to share. And for your fearlessness when approaching your project.
Hi Catherine, what if you would half all the parts of the skirt to distribut the darker fabric more evenly... So two smaller stripes in front and back and the bigger print in between ?
I live in Taiwan. The heat in the summer causes elastic to stretch out in a couple of years so I have to keep changing it in all our elastic waste pants. So it's less trouble to change the sewed in elastic to casings. A lot of stitches to take out from factory made.
I like the top pretty much and like how you altered the grayish shirt. I think I would have made that with a different material for a sleeve, like black lace 3/4 ones or none. And maybe have made a tunic with the other two as they seem more matchable. I Becaue of my shape I either attach materials at 2" under the bust line for seam and raising arms up. Learned the hard way. If at waist I do about an inch above waist or materials cling to my too big of a butt. I never directly sew elastic as I have found for me different waist of material gather differently or hand differently so I always make elastic casings. Even when I attach material for tunic tops. I dont always do elastic. Often I attach a bit bigger, slightly A line then take in and reshape sides or once in awhile I will sew a piece of elasitc at the back only about 4 to 6 inches wide stretching to take in similar amount 2 darts would be in the back. Again about an inch above my waist. Anyway, you give great lessons to everyone. Ive been remaking thrift since age 10 and im 69 now. Im so glad its in style to do your own thing. We did some in the hippie era but some years I hid some that my clothes were thrift. I love men's wear materials too. Like the hounds tooth suits. Have a few saved that are damaged going to make purses.
You are an incredible seamstress. What I would have given to have an instructor like you when I started sewing. I am 71 and have loved sewing since 4 grade. I never developed the confidence you have but I think had I had someone like you as my teacher I would have. You really do inspire creativity in a person. Love your videos.
I also love mixing prints. Your three go together great. I like the skirt with the solid black top, not so much with the pieced top, but it could work in a pinch.
The top is absolutely darling! I prefer the top with jeans and the skirt with the solid black sweater, but the two worn together also work. Great upcycling project!
They are very nice - both the skirt and the top! The top was beautiful with jeans, but I'm sure the top will look super with a black skirt too. Don't give up on the skirt! It looked nice together with the black solid top. I love to watch your videos and I admire your creativity!
OMG that elastic technique is a game changer for me! Elastic has been a struggle for me. I have made a few things that I don't wind up wearing, but, hey, I learned something! I really appreciate that you showed the whole process.
I know! I wish I had watched this video before I put an elastic band inside a casing. I struggled to bunch the fabric evenly, if you know what I mean. Next time I will make sure to try your technique. You teach us so much, Catherine, I personally owe you a thousand thanks. You have emboldened me to experiment and stop shaking when I get my scissors out 😨!
I wasn't so sure about the skirt, but seeing it with and without the (adorable) top, I think it's cute too. Once again, Catherine, you have mesmerized me! Thank you so much!
The top is super cute. I like the sleeves and the peplum. I think your idea of wearing a black sweater with the skirt is a good idea. The skirt still does look good with the new top too.
Super cute both ways, but my preference is the skirt with the black solid top and the peplum top is cute with jeans! But, the important thing is what ever makes you happy :) Great job!
That’s what I was thinking too. The skirt with the sweater and booties was so cute and the top with jeans worked nicely together. Good job as always, Catherine!
The ruffle on the bottom of your shirt looks great. Nice symmetry with your sleeves. The skirt is nice too and I like how you did the elastic. I really, really want a serger!
I think the dress was soooooo cute. Make a tie belt from print. It’s perfect on you for almost any occasion. I had a skirt of different prints similar years ago and loved it and wore it so much. The skirt would look better with softer top….t-shirt or soft button-up blouse in silky type material. But I liked yours as a dress so much. Whatever. ❤️
The rusing is such a great idea. Love the top. Though I think you're right about the peplum needing to be a bit longer. Not sure about the skirt. It all really sounded great in theory. Maybe it's me. I'm stealing the waist band elastic method!! It definitely looks way better than a casing!
I really like the top, and it looks amazing with the skirt as well as the jeans. This is a current look right now that you created with your two-piece dress, and you wear it really well. It looks really flattering on you. Very nice!
I keep telling myself that I don't need a serger, then I watch you using your older Kenmore and start re-thinking it! Beautiful hem finish on that flounce and the seams - and I appreciate seeing how you did the skirt waistband elastic. Beautiful upcycle altogether! Enjoyed watching the whole process.
So much fun to watch your experiments! They always turn out great. I love the top with the skirt better then the jeans. Also think it would work nice with a black pencil skirt. Really like the skirt too. Mix and matching the patterns makes it very bohemian and romantic. Another great upcycle with a lot of little sewing “gems “ throughout. Thank you for being such a wonderful inspiration
Very cute! I would probably remove all the elastic at the waist of the top. It doesn’t look like it needs it really. Love the sleeves. And the skirt is cute with the black sweater. Great job!
The skirt would’ve been better with just the first print combined with plain black. And the top didn’t need the peplum. I really like the lines of the rest of the top. The sleeves and the elastic really work to define the shape. That was a cool experiment. Thanks for showing us, you really inspire. 💜
So many great tips! The top looks great on you, you definitely could wear the 2 pieces together or each as a separate. Thank you for all the inspiration.
Love the skirt with the black sweater. The peplum top just makes it too busy. Thanks for the inspiration and the comment about just enjoying the process. I feel so confirmed on my many experiments and the joy in trying.
I always learn something new - and get inspired by you! Top is adorable! I love it with the skirt, and love that you made them separates to mix-n-match. Amazing what you can pull off!
Enjoy watching your videos so much. Always learning new techniques & you keep my creative juices flowing. You've inspired me to delve even deeper into upcycling. Thanks!
I like both, and I would definitely wear the skirt because I am an Episcopal priest and it would look great with a black clergy shirt and “dog collar”! You look cute in the top, but I agree, I think it works better with jeans. Love your creativity and dedication to sustainability.
I think the top is cute by itself, but I also like the skirt with it rather than with the sweater. I just think the top and skirt combined are whimsically cute together.
Catherine, you did a fabulous job on the top & skirt. I would agree w/ you about wearing them together? Not as attractive, & it really does look kind of frumpy. But, each piece on its own is amazing! Kudos on a job well-done!
I am so glad I have found your channel! Your creativity and sewing tips are very inspiring!!! I think the top is definitely a winner and the peplum does mimic the sleeves. The skirt works. Thanks for the videos.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the top with the peplum looked super cute alone but even cuter as a shirt/top set. Great blending of three garments into reimagined new looks❤.
As I reimagine my wardrobe, I’m finding your videos helpful. I don’t own a serger and would love to see a video or two as you up-cycle thrifted items on various ways that I could use to have nice ‘serge’ seams using my conventional machine. Not sure if I’m imagining something called a French seam but attempted creating a closed finished seam to finish my seam.
That's a lot of work but I love your "let's give it a try" attitude. I think the skirt would look cute with a snugger thinner sweater. I can see the top with just black slacks that don't have any details at the top.
I am going to do that ruching neckline to a boring tee that I have, it's so cute. You really have a good eye for combining fabrics. The top is adorable.
I love the top. I think i would add plain a plain black band to the bottom of the peplum and have the peplum less gathered. The skirt I think would be nice in summer with a black vest top. But with the top you made I think there would need to be horizontal layers. Just my thoughts. I don't even sew yet. I watch your videos for my future self and for your attitudes to creativity, problem-solving which I use in various areas of my life. And the knowledge I get about construction of garments helps me modify crochet garments I make as I go
I love the top! Your design skills are wonderful! Truthfully, I like the skirt and top together, I’ll tell you why: as you mentioned, the flounce really could have bern a bit longer, and when it’s worn with the skirt (which turned out cute too), the flounce length blends into the skirt and is less noticeably short than when the top is worn with the lighter colored jeans. Maybe a pair of black dress pants would have the same effect. 😍😍
I love how it turned out. Another approach if you wanted a dress might have been to do an empire waist and just do the shirring under the bust with a more A line skirt attached. However with that said the two separate pieces does give you more flexibility and I like the peplum top
Thank you so much for all that you teach us! I've lost a lot of weight, but I'm reluctant to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. You've given me the courage to start snipping away and working with what I have. So far, my projects have turned out wearable (not particularly stylish LOL). You've also inspired me not to quit! I'm currently working on some I'll fitting jeans. They are a little funny looking, but I'm going to keep going and see how it all ends up. Thanks again!
I love the top to bits. I don't like the peplum above the skirt with the patterned skirt. Great ideas with the panels but maybe the patterns are just too busy together? A plainer dark skirt would look great, even with the peplum.❤
top is a winner! Skirt is ... better with the black sweater! maybe if the panes were more similar in colour? but the skirt does better with the black sweater. Love your videos - they are fun and soothing to my mind! dying to get to work myself!
Thank you for the video, I like the skirt but as a separate. It’s OK with the top but it was cuter on its own. The top is great, love those little elastic strips that square than neckline.
Loved your new top, Catherine, including its little ruffle (you're still young. : ) I also think the skirt was very flattering and pretty when worn with your plain black sweater. THANK YOU for the video you made about "fast fashion"! (I had no idea! I wear my own clothes for years and years; but frequently am purchasing t's and pj's for my grandchildren -- and not always from "principled" companies, I now discover!) Okay -- sewing-upcycle question: I recently found three beautiful pairs of slacks at the thrift shop; they fit very smoothly at my waist, hips and legs; but the problem area is the droopy "seat"; I am not "flat" back there, but it seems like these pants were made for ladies significantly "cheekier" than I am. How to alter them?
I really like the top but I think even more rows of shirring right up to just under the bust so that it almost becomes empire waisted would really take it over the top. That being said, amazing job! Your videos have really sparked my imagination and completely changed my approach to thrifting.
This is impressive! I think it has inspired me to make a ruched waist dress with those sleeves and a square neckline. I bought 2 yards of beautiful fabric to make a blouse, but the dang people at the fabric store gave me an extra 1.5 yards since it was the end of the bolt, so I feel compelled to make a dress instead!
Thanks for the nice comment! I think the ruched waist and sleeves of this top would be gorgeous on a dress made from one beautiful fabric. Good luck with it!
Very cute top. I like the concept of the skirt, but not sure if I like the finished product. I wonder if you used plain black on the o/s panels to give a slimming illusion? Another great makeover. Keep them coming.

So sweet, thank you!
Watching you work is like watching Edward Scissorhands masterfully cut and shape those hedges! You did a great job!
Haha, I love that!

I especially appreciated Catherine's comments about that too! I never looked at creative endeavors that way before.
Yes, Agree skirt with black top, boots and tights! Very nice look. And top is better with jeans instead of skirt! 2 outfits: yippee!
Love your videos. You've inspired me to tackle my huge pile of "not just right" items and see what can be paired together for a new look. I like that you do not do a lot of social talking. 🧵🪡😃Have you gotten started on your sewing project? My Joann’s closed too🫤
Love both pieces, either together or as separates - too darn cute! You've outdone yourself yet again, Dearheart! 💖💖💖🤗
I actually like the top better with the skirt than with your jeans. I think the peplum blends in and coordinates with it. I don't like peplums though so take that as you will. The flounce at the waist really echoes the sleeve flounces nicely. I like the top and skirt together as well as separately. Good job!
Really enjoy your videos

I really love the last 2 tops. Give me flowy florals all day.

I think the peplum turned out super cute! I would like to see the top paired with a black pencil skirt, I feel it would be cute
Very creative neckline idea on the top, with and without sleeves would work well.
SO well done. Skirt with the black sweater works well, and the top
Is the winner.
Awesome job…and you never know when you’ll need a skirt for a specific occasion, even if it’s not for you for daily wear. Great job!
I like the top pretty much and like how you altered the grayish shirt. I think I would have made that with a different material for a sleeve, like black lace 3/4 ones or none. Can I just say that I often wonder how often you run out of closet or dresser space with all your fabulous remakes?!!
I like the top with the skirt together the best. Love your videos. I learn something new each time.
I also love mixing prints. Your three go together great. I like the skirt with the solid black top, not so much with the pieced top, but it could work in a pinch.

I like the way you styled them separately ...talented lady😊
I wasn't so sure about the skirt, but seeing it with and without the (adorable) top, I think it's cute too. Once again, Catherine, you have mesmerized me! Thank you so much!
Happiness comes from achievement, creativity and sharing. You've aced it girl. 😊
So ambitious! I think I do like the set, but for sure as separates. 👍👍❣️❣️
I think it all turned out just lovely. 😊
The top is super cute. I like the sleeves and the peplum. I think your idea of wearing a black sweater with the skirt is a good idea. The skirt still does look good with the new top too.
The skirt with the black sweater is absolutely adorable! Another great job Catherine!
I also think both pieces are great. An especially useful video. Thank you!
Super cute both ways, but my preference is the skirt with the black solid top and the peplum top is cute with jeans! But, the important thing is what ever makes you happy :) Great job!
Thanks so much!
That’s what I was thinking too. The skirt with the sweater and booties was so cute and the top with jeans worked nicely together. Good job as always, Catherine!
The skirt with the sweater and boots looked amazing. Top is so,cute as well.
I always learn something when watching your videos. Thank you❤
Skirt with the black top looked great! The top is a winner for me too. You are so creative!
Your perseverance with a project is such a great example. I love how you said the process is part of the fun.
The ruffle on the bottom of your shirt looks great. Nice symmetry with your sleeves. The skirt is nice too and I like how you did the elastic. I really, really want a serger!
I really like the top with the peplum on you. It's cute. Good teaching.
I think I'd wear the skirt OVER the 'frill'.
The shirt is darling! The skirt is very becoming with the sweater and belt. You model it very well! Great job!!
I really like the top and skirt together. The flounce on the top pulls the two together. What a fun outfit.
I really like the top, and it looks amazing with the skirt as well as the jeans. This is a current look right now that you created with your two-piece dress, and you wear it really well. It looks really flattering on you. Very nice!
Love watching you create!! You teach creative ways to sew and sewing techniques too. Thank you!
I think you’d love having a serger! Time to treat yourself!
Very clever. I like it with the skirt as well as with jeans. It is a go-go project.
I love how you changed the shape of the neckline with the elastic, and the elastic at the waist. The top is super cute on you.
I loved them both. The skirt was adorable with the top and with the sweater.
Very cute! I would probably remove all the elastic at the waist of the top. It doesn’t look like it needs it really. Love the sleeves. And the skirt is cute with the black sweater. Great job!
Yep I agree. The skirt looks good with the black sweater, tights and booties. It totally works that way
The skirt would’ve been better with just the first print combined with plain black. And the top didn’t need the peplum. I really like the lines of the rest of the top. Love the idea of the shirred waistline.

Love the skirt with the black sweater. The peplum top just makes it too busy. Thanks for the inspiration and the comment about just enjoying the process. I feel so confirmed on my many experiments and the joy in trying.
Your imagination astounds me! I would have never paired those 3 fabrics together, but, you made if work beautifully.

I love the print mixing. I made a similar skirt from old scarves a couple years ago and loved it.

This is so cute! I do prefer the top separate from the skirt.
These are adorable pieces! I'm learning so much from you. Thank you. I think the peplum part might look nicer without the elastic strips above it.
I love the project! They look great together or as separate pieces. Well done!
Oh, that turned out get, cute as cute, thanks for another great item.
Thank you so much for all that you teach us! I've lost a lot of weight, but I'm reluctant to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe.

Thanks for the lovely comment! Are you the Patricia Collins who I went to high school with!?
@@CatherineSews Well, you seem way too young to have graduated high school in 1983, so probably not.
@@patriciacollins5783 I graduated high school in 1980! In Windsor Ontario. Patty Collins was a cool friend.
I guess joie de vivre keeps you youthful!
@CatherineSews -- I'm a 1989 graduate. You are so youthful, I'd've sworn you did too.
I really them both. And, I like the skirt more than I thought I would. Great job. Inspiring for sure.
I love the top to bits. I don't like the peplum above the skirt with the patterned skirt. Great ideas with the panels but maybe the patterns are just too busy together? A plainer dark skirt would look great, even with the peplum.❤
It is cute on you (every way you wear it). Great job.
The skirt looks excellent with the black jumper. The top looks better without the peplsm but great job on both of them 👍
Great job. I like the skirt with the black top.
top is a winner!
You inspire me to take chances…so cute!
Very cute top. I like the concept of the skirt, but not sure if I like the finished product. I wonder if you used plain black on the o/s panels to give a slimming illusion? Another great makeover. Keep them coming.
Nice job Catherine !!
