I actually think the older one sounded better. Clearer mids and highs from what I could tell.
The megaboom 3 seemed a little too base boosted for my tastes
Can confirm, I just replaced my original megaboom with a megaboom 3 and was extremely disappointed for that reason. The megaboom 3 sounds alright and crisp in anything on the lower range, but as soon as a song gets loud and powerful, the mids, highs, and bass just drops off and disappoints. I would much rather buy the original megaboom for quality of sound (which is almost no difference to the 3) and how much better it sounds at the more powerful levels.
You guys just saved my ass ordering a ue megaboom 3 😂 im looking to replace my megaboom, its 6y old and gets cracky at max volume bass 😢
@@VincentVloeberghs people’s opinions are subjective, overall the Megaboom 3 is WAY BETTER. In every category upgrade if you haven’t already.

To the speaker: I somehow like the UE Speakers, but it is more for how they are designed and not for what they sound like. For this reason I would take the older one, if I had to choose. But in spite of the sound I would always go for JBL or Sony at that prize. Thanks for your very interesting and entertaining videos!! Peace from Germany.

I've had mine since 2007 there is nothing wrong with it it works perfectly fine i was going to up grade my UE MEGA BOOM but when i compered it with my ALL BLACKS EDIT UE MEGA BOOM THERE WASN'T MUCH DIFFERENCE to them Both the only Difference is the cost.

Using a great set of JBL headphones, and with the 'sound check/music' it's SO close, either would be a worthwhile buy! Possibly hard to justify a $50. upsell on the Megaboom 3 for me, but you really couldn't go wrong on either of these two! Both sound great via a headset, so I'll assume it sounded similar to those that chose just to listen through their EU bluetooth speakers.
Great review. When I listen to BT speakers with better base, a lot of non bassy music sounds tinny/muted. I haven't heard a BT speaker yet (sure they exist) that does everything well.

I just compared Megaboom vs. Megaboom 3 directly. The older Megaboom actually sounds a tad better! Clearer highs and surprisingly: more bass.
While the difference in lower levels is small it gets dissapointing when turning up volume: The MB3 starts overstearing earlier on bass then the MB1.

I currently just have a small Jambox / Jawbone speaker so I'm looking for a bluetooth speaker with a bigger / richer sound that can fill a larger room. Thanks!
Maybe one of the big JBL ones? They normally get good reviews. And the JBL "Extreme" range are pretty big, so I imagine their bass is good too.
I can say the same, because I actually own both. The similarly sized jbl charge 4 and probably the Sony srs-xb33 are better than this megaboom 3. The xtreme 2 just blows it away, but it is more expensive. I’d say the new Bose flex is also far better.
I got both of these speakers at costco. The older model for $99 and the newer one for $109. The newer one came with the charging dock, so that was a bonus. I installed the app, and noticed that when I changed the equalizer settings (from my own "custom" to the "standard" flat setting), the volume would change dramatically. When in the flat setting, the speaker was the loudest; once i began to tweak the equalizer (I raised all of them to varying degrees), i noticed that the overall volume would drop a bit. the speaker was loudest when equalizer was flat; when i wanted to customize it, the volume would drop. The older model did not do this. Someone put a review that had the same results (either on costco or on amazon), so I know I wasn't imagining it. I'm going to keep testing them, but I"m thinking the extra features may not be enough to warrant the "upgrade." I might end up returning the new one and keeping the older model.
I just brought the ue megaboom today love the bass is there no difference between the 3rd one they both sound same
I have many JBL speakers, but I also have the megaboom 3. The one thing it has going for it is a “warm” sound that some people may prefer, with a very pronounced instrument and vocal range, and some mid bass. It like it for what it is! Even if it isn’t a flat response. It is the unique UE sound. Very good for some genres, and surprised me the first time I listened to it. I still use the JBL more because of the extra sparkle on the top end, and definition and depth in the bass.
Someone who gets it. The original is way better for the vocal, classical, and folk style music genres. way better, fuller, mid and high range with just the right frequency of bass to make you feel completely immersed in the music. The new one kills that effect. I have listened to both many times. Still will take the original megaboom over the 3 any day of the week.

Hi! I listened to the sound comparison using a pair of Bose earbuds 2, and though the speakers share the same sound signature, in my ears the Megaboom sounded more open, crisp and detailed than the Megaboom3, which in comparison sounded more closed, "boxed", kinda suffocated and confused, maybe also due to the extra kick on basses.

I have seen the “look inside” videos. They use the same drivers (sound-producing components) in both. However, the bass radiators are slightly different. The ones in megaboom are flat, the ones in megaboom 3 are convex. It probably does not make a difference.

Love my old Megabooms but unfortunately they start stuttering after a while in stereo mode.... Anyone else have this issue? I have three of them but i get the same result even if i switch speakers (i only use 2 at a time because I want stereo).

I know that taste in bass is subjective, but you really shouldn’t expect a speaker to washout the track with heavy bass. I love the tone the MegaBoom produces, I’ve got a JBL charge 4, I would say I still prefer the UE because of its 360 sound as well. Also I believe Apple got it right with the HomePod, it adjusts its bass profile to match the acoustics of the room, I.e. canceling out boosted bass signals. It just sounds so much clearer.

I need to know how much louder megaboom 3 is compared to the megaboom 1at 100% volume or pretty close to it. You didn't put that in your review/comparison.
Dennis Covington they have the similar specs but the loudest volume is the same for both of the speakers
I would rather have the awkward charge socket and retain the tripod mount. Not at all interested in the docking feature or the "magic button".

What Im trying to understand is why the Megaboom cost more then the Megaboom 3? I own 2 Megabooms and love them. I need another for my garage and I was thinking why not go with the newest model, then realized it cost less? Is it not as good? Why would they make something new and not upgrade it?

My $70 DossXL destroys those in the extended low end bass department. Not as durable and lacks some of the features of the newer models but for the size it still dominates the field. The audio quality between speakers is subjective and the room you have it in plays a huge part in how they end up sounding. All I am hearing with the Megaboom is third order distortion at 55HZ and the old DossXL starts walking across the table when I pump 50hz into it.

I have the older one and it sounds good an then it seemed to stared to bug out on me and I thought it was done for so I got the new one to replace it and then it seems to work fine now so I have both and there is a slight difference and you most likely won't tell a difference even them both side by side and everything being the same (eq, mode, volume, ect)
Your right, he Ue megaboom 3 does have a Lil bit more bass then the ue megaboom, though it's no big deal. Cause I have just a Ue megaboom myself

The UE Megaboom 3 bass more clear n not like Megaboom not clear it has a vibration bass
i have a doss xl got it for 60 dollars way better than ue megaboom 3 jbl charge 3 and many other brands .it has a subwoofer than can reach 30 hz really sounds good

- "magic button"...which megaboom also does by hard tapping it on it's sides (little known fact)..tap once to pause, once more to play, or double tap to skip on the og megaboom
- sounds pretty close
- loudness pretty close
- charging port has changed
- megaboom 3 offers better dust protection
- megaboom 3 offers a longer bluetooth range
...not worth an extra $100 for 15 feet of bt range & dust protection
