How do you feel that if it weren’t for you right to repair wouldn’t be what it is now?
Someone else would've done what I do and maybe would've done a better job of it. I don't feel much way about it at all.
@@rossmanngroup You have *undeniably* brought a lot of attention and thus support to the topic. Don't diminish your contribution! Keep it up, Louis 🌟
@@rossmanngroup I like your humility, but don't undermine the work you've done. I'd say you're a pretty great representative for it, as it affects your line of work, and you know what your talking about and can explain it well to most laymans. Nobody's perfect, but you've taken up the mantle well. I'm glad it's you representing this cause.
@@rossmanngroup Louis, people have been making less each year, paying more just to barely scrape by each year over decades. Most people just kind of quietly grumble and accept it, they don't do ANYTHING about it. Sure theres plenty of valid reasons for people not to deal with it, but if nobody does, things only get progressively worse.
It's incredibly rare for someone to do what you've done and to the extent you've done/currently are working towards this. It's a pretty selfless action (I know you could probably claim you own a repair business and it's in your best interest). You and the people supporting your efforts, or people supporting right to repair on their own have all done amazing work. Someone 'might' have been able to do something similar,, but I think your following and drive was a very significant part of the progress in right to repair overall. You're doing more than a lot of politicians, more than a lot of the richest wealth hoarders, for the average person.
I didn't even know how scummy practices were before I found your channel.
@@rossmanngroup your consistency in how you reply to people saying things like this is the most impressive thing of all~
Yes, I live in Minnesota and sent around a petition in the neighborhood I'm in. Most people signed it and we sent it in to our rep.
This is the way. and the next time some blackpilled doomer says this is a pointless waste of time, I can point to what you did here and the fact that it was successful.
Thank you!
Thank you for making the effort.
Wow, this is amazing. I'm gonna try this myself
W
This gives me great hope.
I just talked to a Minnesota resident about R2R today. They had no idea what the concept was. I gladly informed them what it was about and directed them to your channel. The movement is gaining traction 1 person at a time. I've probably preached about it to 50 or 60 folks who really took interest in what I had to say, little by little... we are winning!
Thank you!
MN resident here, I must have been following the wrong bill number, it was a surprise to me. Preaching everywhere I can too.
Caleb, thank you!
Are you winning, son?
Yes, we are.
That is the way, Caleb.
Talk to the people,
and convince them to call / write to their representatives.
Assume your reps don't fully understand why R2R is important,
and that they are not aware how many of their voters / constituants CARE.
Assume they are living in a time before the internet, and don't understand new-fangled technology.
Perhaps you could write up a standard letter to your specific rep, that people can simply print out and sign.
Or perhaps a PETITION among those 50/60 people you talked to (name, city of residence, signature.. Perhaps email address).
If they don't hear from the people,
all they have to go on is the word of anti-repair lobbyists
It's about tipping the scales :)
I'm not even American but this is an important issue globally. Solidarity from the UK 🇬🇧 💪
There will be a tipping point when repairability will become a selling point, and naturally incentivize the market to follow. No matter where right to repair wins, we step closer to that eventuality
The fun part comes when we get a good bill passed that forces companies to allow repair. Because if you can get the parts / Schematics in the USA.... they will likely end up available in other countries too. Just like if we get 1 state that requires companies to allow repair, the companies can't stop spare parts / schematics from making their way to other states.
I am brit living in the USA running a small repair business .
I have to say the energy Louis has to keep this movement going is amazing.
Thanks to Louis and the team for all their amazing work
@@thomaslacroix6011I believe Nokia have actually already done this!
Also from UK. What happens in US affects the UK & EU and sometimes vice versa. Huge support from UK for Louis and his team's relentless championing of our right to own and repair our own stuff. It's not a difficult concept to understand, innit? :)
he say until he runs out of money or sanity, then he say is not running out of money but neglect to say anything about sanity.
This is the way
@@rossmanngroup i see what you did there Louis!
@@rossmanngroup I haven't laughed so hard at one of your videos in an awfully long time.
What's with the no game console clause , it's not a security threat and there are to tons of broken Xboxes and Playstations out there...
The ESA is a garbage organization and always does their best to keep this from being included in these bills. See the following;
ruclips.net/video/gxACAvHMSLU/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/KAVp1WVq-1Q/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/PD6UcT4KyEg/видео.html
We tried. We'll win video game consoles next time. No but seriously, listen to the first video, listen to her testimony. These are the people that politicians are choosing to believe over actual voting constituents.
I despise the ESA. Help me discredit them so that politicians don't listen to them. I can't do it on my own. I need your help. Help me defeat them.
Thank you.
@@rossmanngroup Just watched the first video and wow , I have to ask is she even lucid, that ware extremely incoherent , but anyway as some one who use to fix consoles and have a grasp on modern ones , the argument makes no sense, take for instance the SSDs soldered into modern consoles , these will fail eventually it's a wear item, and currently swapping them (flash/nand) will brick a console , allowing the system to reformat a new ssd won't modify firmware or allow piracy.
Apus are also linked the other components on the board , making repairs that much harder.
So if my Ps5 breaks down, sony got my soul?
@@FaSMaN removal of what is left of the flash/nand and putting it on a board to copy it may do more harm/corruption so I agree. Even Arduino has a header to allow people to ' reflash ' something and older motherboards had similar ways to put legitimate software back on replacement chips ( ever upgrade an AMI motherboard? ) so it is possible to be done at the manufacturing level and be encrypted.
Back in the day, a PS3 was restricted for sale to a number of countries because they could be used for nefarious purposes. There is probably still a technology export list that all companies have to abide by.
As a small time pc repair business owner in MN for 10+ years, I cannot thank you enough for everything you've done. I wrote my representatives many times, just as you requested of your viewers so many times. I thank you!
so what does exactly this means for you? when can you start asking OEM for parts pointing at this law?
Writing/calling your representatives is the way; THAT ultimately makes the difference - that they know this issue matters to VOTERS/constituants.
Louis can inform us and fight the good fight, but ultimately - he is NOT registered to VOTE in all 50 (?) States.
The people that call, write, send in petitions.... YOU are the one(s) that make this happen :)
Just assume your reps simply don't know...
They don't understand why this is important.
They don't know how many people care.
The people (starting with you, your friends, your relatives) have to educate them.
Otherwise their only real source of information...
Is the lobbyists & companies voting against it.
Tip the scales :)
You're doing the good work - thank you.
(We're all in this together - world wide - and every victory matters in the fight against 'single use' tech.
Cheers from Amsterdam (NL)
As a Minnesota resident, where are you? xD
@@wyattf.3837 SE MN
As a tech-savvy Minnesota resident who has been following your battle for right to repair, I thank you.
I am thankful that this week my state rep emailed me back after I voiced concerns that this bill wouldn't pass. He has been good so far to listen to his constituents concerns. So glad we are moving forward. Yes there are still flawed parts. But at least we aren't letting it die in committee!
Don't count your chickens before they're hatched my friend.
They won't give up that easily. If they can't get you through legal ways, they'll try to get you through technical ways.
I haven't.
I am 100% certain this will be fought in courts as I mention in the video. Apple will kick and scream before I am ever able to purchase the modern equivalent of an LP133WP1-TJAA, CD3217, ISL9240, or angle sensor programmer through "legitimate" means.
I know in my heart that my business will most likely become insolvent & bankrupt long before Apple ever makes parts or schematics available to us. I know that the parts I was able to purchase even 7 years ago, will not be available again while my business is around, and that I'll be saying goodbye to my employees before the war is won for our side.
But in terms of a legislative victory, this is it. and it should be celebrated for what it is - the next victory in a very long line of necessary victories for us to live in a fixable world.
Even if my business is gone, this isn't about me. It's about the next generation and the generation after that growing up in a world where their property is truly *theirs* and not simply leased from the manufacturer until something breaks. That matters, and is worth fighting for. This is 1 battle, but there's a war to win. Whether my business survives to the end of it matters not in the grand scheme of things.
@@rossmanngroup Don’t loose hope. Depending on how the courts rule and which laws are passed it can happen fairly quickly. For example, the EU mandate of USB-C will force Apple to add usb-c within the next couple years. Could be the same for right to repair.
Of course this isn't the end of the war. I think we need to recognize steps forward. It will be an even more grueling slog in the mud if we don't acknowledge how far we have come.
Lol
I'll keep fighting, not even being dead will stop ME.
Damn Louis, do you think you can solve Americas debt too? We need more superheros like you
One thing at the time man 😂!
Find a non-authoritarian way to force people to accept personal responsibility for their finances, the world is waiting.
that problem is truly fucked. no solution there. go back to square 1 & waste less money next time
"America" has no debt. The government has debt. Dissolve the goverment... problem solved. (with a short period of adjustment of course)
louis got lucky in this case because there's a donor who's rich enough to give him a million bucks to be used to fight for right to repair
not sure 1 million is enough to solve americas debt, even if there's someone who can give him that much for it in the first place
We need more people like you Louis in every country in this world. You are really pushing for a sustainable future for all of us.
In Colombia the corporations have had environmental activists killed so they can develop the land
Bills without any BS, what will politicians do? If there isn’t any BS, we won’t need politicians anymore. The world will be a better place.
Congrats on expanding my rights in Minnesota. And thank you! Hope to see everyone else join us soon too.
Congratulations! It's really catching on. Thanks for your hard work.
As a long time advocate of R2R since the early 90s i as a retired computer tech thank you for your hard work. Keep getting the R2R passed into law in all states.
I am a Minnesotan and I have been more than happy with what our legislature has been doing recently.
Cyber security just makes me roll my eyes, because that's exactly why they keep serialising parts so they can claim replacing it requires breaching their security and releasing proprietary information.
Thank you Louis for fighting the good fight and educating us on the predatory business practices that block our right to repair our OWN property.
Congrats Louis! One win at a time...
You should make a map of all the states with good RtR laws on the books. New York can get a mark of shame.
New York always gets the mark of shame
Louis, you need to go after North Carolina. Apple is building another campus there and it would be best to intercept them before their lobbyists hit the legislative floor.
It’s a rapidly growing state in terms of manufacturing and industry.
Dude it was too late for that 2 years ago. NC is handing Apple over a billion in subsidies. They will listen to Apple right now.
@@danielmorton1606 That's too messed up. In normal business the one handing over the money is the one who gets listened to.
Thank you for making my state a little better. I appreciate you Louis!
This is amazing hopefully we keep getting major wins like this
Louis chalking up the wins. Thank you for your tireless work, advocacy and time. You make even more of a difference than we can ever know.
Who knew that New York had one item of true value to export? Louis! Thank you for all your hard work and fortitude in what must sometimes seem like insurmountable odds. Persistence overcomes resistance.
The progress you have made over the years is incredible. Well done man.
As a Minnesotan, I thank your for all your hard work on Right to Repair.
I sent in several emails to my representatives (MN resident) and urged my family and friends to do the same, even before i found you. thank you so, so much!!
Good man. Appreciate your efforts looking out for the consumer.
"Stop screwing with my bill!" - thanks for entertaining and such good and important work! Repairing is the best recycling.
👍🙏💝Thank you for all that you do. 🙏💝
Thank you!
Thank you!!
Louis, you're incredible! Keep up excellent work for the sake of making our world better!
It’s so nice That my humble email might have helped with this small win! 🏆 Great Job everyone.
Ive been preaching R2R for 5 years in Canada now. And I'm amazed how well people understand the issue once explained and immediately relate to it with their own personal snecdotes and experiences. This gives me hope. Its something 95% of people agree upon. The 5% remaining being brainwashed apple fanboys. Heck i even got people coming up to me asking for recommendations about sustainable tech. I love showing them Framework laptops and Fairphones.
"... Oh! Hi. I didn't see you come in. I'm Louis Rossman. Come on! Let's take a look at the fun radical world of tech repair. This way! Haha [waves] come on!... ... ... Are you f'ckin' coming?..."
He is winning !!❤
He's winning!
just like Charlie Sheen
We are winning!
This is a big day :) thank you all for your work and interest 🎉
Thank you both for doing this and for the transparency of the finances! Also, definitely create another funding campaign when you do start running low on money to keep this going!
As for not getting paid anything for this, I hope the income from the merch has been at least helpful! When I realized you were not taking a paycheck a few weeks ago, I bought one of your merch mugs.
Thank you!
Damn, I love seeing these victory videos. Looking forward to contacting the legislators in my own state when the time comes.
We've come a long long long looooong way from when I first started watching your videos when I would fall asleep watching you do board repair with lots of information that I didn't quite understand, to this. I don't know you personally but I have very much respect for you. Thanks for teaching me. About a lot. Keep this fight going
It's amazing how many videos Louis has made in a single day wearing that blue shirt, even changing the scenery and props (sofa for a chair).
Well done! Congratulations again Louis 🎉🍰
Congratulations! It took a great amount of effort on your part, so hats off to you sir!
well done Louis, really doing consumers a service not many of them know they need, I for one would love the ability to repair my own electronics (that are not just basic stuff like a electric shaver that came without a charger that I made work with some lithium batteries)
Congratulations Louis!! Your hard work is paying off
Really loving what you're doing here, keep it up!
Hi Louis I’m in the uk and I was telling the people at work about ring doorbell cameras coz it came up and what a swizz they are and how you don’t own your data of the things you bought. I told them that’s why I’m in favour of right to repair. We need to own our things and their data! I don’t think they’ll start the glorious revolution anytime soon but you taught me so I’m out there planting seeds in minds! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you so much for your work Mr Rossman. I'm going to write to my local politicians as well about an important issue
Not all heroes wear capes! You keep going! From New Mexico.
thank you for your service.
Thanks for being so transparent about your work. Lord knows that if even half of all the businesses today were like this, the world would be a better place.
I saw this on reddit a couple of days ago. Immediately thought of you. As a electronic hobbyist, I thank you for all your hard work.
Thanks for your work. I hope that you get what you want. For all of us. Thanks!!
Thanks for your service, you are awesome! Greetings from Germany.
Glad to see the upidy energy and absolute positivity.
Glad to see neddle moving, while not much it does feel like leaps. Amazing.
Thank you for fighting so long Sir Louis Rossman.
Thank you for your work and I hope this gets to be an example to be followed by the rest of the world!
Mr.Louis Rossmann, you humble son of a gun, YOU started this sooo, Thank you Sir. You freakin rock!
Minnesota has been on a roll with legislation honestly, wouldn't be surprised if they pick up pace and become start becoming a hub for people looking to get out of certain states like with Texas or Arizona
That's what happens when you put democrats in charge.
Minnesota democrats vs California and New York democrats is night and day.
Meanwhile they are passing red flag laws in MN so I wouldn't call what they are doing "good"
@@Opachki69420 How is background checks for firearm purchases and limits on no knock warrants a bad thing?

Congratulations Louis, I really admire what you are doing with right to repair. Although I'm in the UK I really hope your campaigns will see greater and greater success.
Congratulations Louis.
Well done.
From the first of your videos I saw I knew you were a good man.
Strength to you.
Congratulations!!!! I hope on behalf of your entire audience. Good job thank YOU!
Anyone else think this is a weird hill for companies to die on? Just let us buy the dang parts. 90% of people are just going to buy new phones anyway
He is the Rossmann, he speaks for the screens
Thank you so much for helping to get this bill pushed through!
You do more work than anyone in getting independent repair awareness into the mainstream. I salute you sir!
Great Win, Louis! Thanks for all your work.
