It’s because we were forced to beat Malenia to feel like we progressed in the game, however Runebears are all optional fights that you can most of the time avoid with Torrent. If nobody had that drive to fight Malenia nobody would learn how to dodge the waterflow dance for exemple.

@@bunklypeppz I believe if you knew enough to get into the code of the runebears attack AI and disable its grab attack it might have a chance at legit mauling the Elden Beast/ Not an early Rune Bear though the ones in the forest in Limgrave are too weak. The ones in the Consecrated Snowfield on the other hand have some terrifying amount of HP that might be enough to do the job. I think it would come down to who stagger breaks who more often. If you can never let the Runebear waist time and leave itself wide open to counter attacks by making sure it never does its grab attack I think it could go either way.
Most terrifying part is that all overworld ones technically are classified as "lesser" runebears The only "normal" runebear is in that cave in the weeping peninsula.

I know one in a cave in Dragonbarrow that has 17k-18k HP and it's the strongest one I've fought yet. I wonder how much HP the Snowfield one has. Update: I just killed the Snowfield one and it's a real piece of shit. It has the same 17.5k HP, but it has a few new attack moves and half of them kick up snow that blinds you and you can't see the next attack. Worst bear ever.

When you put it that way, her only difficulty factor is intimidation. If you deal extremely high damage to her in a short time she staggers for a crit and you can do it with any weapon. You just explained why that works on her

Yeah this wasn’t surprising at all. I’ve found that most of the stronger wild life in the game are harder to deal with and avoid them most of the time cause fighting them is hardly ever worth the trouble. Those lobsters and the gat damn giant crows are just…pure cancer. I don’t know what sadistic freak put those things in the game as normal enemies, but the deserve to get punched in the mouth for that.
If anything, I'd say it was just for the pure irony. In a world filled with all manner of grotesque fantastical creatures, dark assassins, and ethereal beings, the toughest enemies you will face are just animals you can find at your local zoo.
Lobsters are cunts and crows are fucked, but they aren't tanky and don't have bullshit movesets (the lobsters also have an attack that leaves them stuck and makes them easy to kill) Runebears though What the fuck Moveset harder to deal with than most bosses, bulshit posture, bullshit poise, bullshit health and gold tinged bearshit rewards from beating them.
I do think there are certain enemies you're supposed to just avoid, being big and fast and not worth a lot of runes in reward for killing them. Helps to integrate stealth features.
I'd love to have a mechanic in the game that lets u intake an animal spirit like Godfrey did. Even if it's just for cosmetics effecss, it'd be so cool to have a runebear or alpha wolf up your shoulder

I could have just not been seeing it or maybe it really just didn't affect the bears health that much, but her Scarlet Aeonia didn't seem to be hitting very hard if at all and I didn't notice a DoT.

Souls is really good at making regular big enemies stronger than some bosses. The Harald knights from the Ringed City. The Giant Fish Trolls from Bloodborne in the Fishing Hamlet and in the well. And now Runebears, I avoid those things at all costs.
Malenia Harold Knight Harold knight is slow Tanky easy to kite and designed to fight only players with a big chunky jump attack weakness that outright oneshots on a first playthrough. Also can be staggered. Runebear an all terrain creature of mass destruction who's only weakness is sleeping explaining why malenia believes miquella aka saint trina is the fiercest of all demigods as he is the only known being capable of preventing the runebears from breaking the lands between with their bear hands. (Never played bb)
The harald knights and sharks are much better tuned and designed and give you worthwhile xp; rune bears are so comically overtuned and give less pitiful xp, I honestly think the person that balanced them was snorting coke.

Nope, only replaced Jellyfish with Runebear. I don't have the tool anymore, but if anyone wants to check the game files, the NPCParam (I think), there are a ton of different Runebears in the game.
Those bears in Mountain of Giant are by far the deadliest creatures in game. They do insane stamina damage, insane damage, insane hitbox, insane aggressiveness, and they even outrun your horse... Revenant doesn't even come close cuz with a good shield + spear you can cheese them easily, even without the healing incarnation.

Spirit summons are ghosts and as such they are immune to all status effects. I imagine they didn't bother to alter that psrt.

Lobsters are cunts and crows are fucked, but they aren't tanky and don't have bullshit movesets (the lobsters also have an attack that leaves them stuck and makes them easy to kill)

Moveset harder to deal with than most bosses, bulshit posture, bullshit poise, bullshit health and gold tinged bearshit rewards from beating them.
I do think there are certain enemies you're supposed to just avoid, being big and fast and not worth a lot of runes in reward for killing them. Helps to integrate stealth features.
I'd love to have a mechanic in the game that lets u intake an animal spirit like Godfrey did. Even if it's just for cosmetics effecss, it'd be so cool to have a runebear or alpha wolf up your shoulder

I still remember the terror I felt when I first encountered this guy as a mini boss
I could have just not been seeing it or maybe it really just didn't affect the bears health that much, but her Scarlet Aeonia didn't seem to be hitting very hard if at all and I didn't notice a DoT.
That rune bear got a ton of scarlet rot resistant for some reason, especially if it’s the Caelid version

In total Malenia dealt the bear 27,969 damage. Each Scarlet Aeonia did 3,839 damage. That bear should have died at least 5 times.
Not sure where your getting that bear should have died 5 times with that amount of damage… if your right and it did take that much damage it should have died yes, once and almost a second time since runebear has somewhere around 18k health

the damage seemed fine tbh, on the level of consecrated field runebears, malenia has horrible absorptions and defenses which makes her take more damage than most. The hp was definitely sus tho
Yeah, that's why when I found this thing sleeping under a waterfall I slowly noped back out into the waterfall looking like Homer Simpson with the bushes.
Souls is really good at making regular big enemies stronger than some bosses. The Harald knights from the Ringed City. The Giant Fish Trolls from Bloodborne in the Fishing Hamlet and in the well. And now Runebears, I avoid those things at all costs.
Malenia Harold Knight
Harold knight is slow Tanky easy to kite and designed to fight only players with a big chunky jump attack weakness that outright oneshots on a first playthrough. Also can be staggered.
Runebear an all terrain creature of mass destruction who's only weakness is sleeping explaining why malenia believes miquella aka saint trina is the fiercest of all demigods as he is the only known being capable of preventing the runebears from breaking the lands between with their bear hands.

The harald knights and sharks are much better tuned and designed and give you worthwhile xp; rune bears are so comically overtuned and give less pitiful xp, I honestly think the person that balanced them was snorting coke.

Nope, only replaced Jellyfish with Runebear. I don't have the tool anymore, but if anyone wants to check the game files, the NPCParam (I think), there are a ton of different Runebears in the game.
This rune bear is from the endgame icy mountains. So yeah, he has WAY more health than any other runebears in the game.
I initially thought that until I tried using comet azur on a runebear in the consecrated snowfields. They have insane hp bars lol

Those bears in Mountain of Giant are by far the deadliest creatures in game.
They do insane stamina damage, insane damage, insane hitbox, insane aggressiveness, and they even outrun your horse...
Revenant doesn't even come close cuz with a good shield + spear you can cheese them easily, even without the healing incarnation.
