4:21 Watching Runebear leap high into the air, silhouetted against the light of the full moon, and bellyflopping on pale Rennala’s fragile form, was a transfixing moment. I thought, what a perfect allegory: After suffering through so many personal tragedies- abandoned by her husband Radagon, the physical assassination of their daughter Ranni by the Black Knives, betrayed and imprisoned by her own Alma Mater, and her mental breakdown. Hadn’t this poor woman suffered enough pain and anguish already? Nothing says life’s a bitch like a massive Runebear pancaking down on top of your head.
@@raindrain1 True. That bear is fast as fuck to us but Radhan and his mad sniper bow as well as his (artillery?) would do significant damage to the bear before it can get close. Afaik rune bears don't really try to dodge/avoid much damage.

As someone who just whacked the Consecrated Snowfield runebear to death with a +25 giant crusher I find it hard to believe they are this easy to stance break.
I think it’s just that bosses do an absurd amount of posture damage. Heavy attacks from even the early game bosses can break most hyperarmor moves from players so they need to be overtuned in that area I guess.
Yep. Even the strongest Runebears have normal posture levels (max 120) and are relatively easy to stance break if you can dodge even two of their attacks (I somehow got in the habit of going to Consecrated Snowfield and just killing Runebears over and over when I want to play Elden Ring, but don't actually want to "play" Elden Ring). However, a lot of boss attacks have their posture damage set at greater than 133 to guarantee poise breaking against players. Runebears can't tank that. If the bosses were limited to the maximum posture damage players can achieve, Runebears would win every time except against one-shot attacks or specialized mechanics.
It's funny that in the Godskin Duo fight, the apostle dealt the most damage and tanked all the hits while the noble just stood out of danger poking at times and it even had the nerve to steal the kill at the end hahaha

Yeah, though tbf their movesets complimented each other really well. It was like two beasts fighting to the death. Oh wait. Nah but seriously, the Rune Bear almost beat one of two bosses who could solo almost the entire game. And this one could even decimate Malenia.
@@hellborne7995 yeah lore wise Maliketh mops malenia and in terms of gameplay they’re close despite malenia being scaled higher as an optional area boss. Imo Maliketh was more memorable with half a health bar than malenia was with two.

@@zyriantel9601 Seen it recently. This makes me think that those bears are either becoming dragons through consumption of runic flesh or they scavenge around dragon death cites and such. I wonder if giant ants might have something similar going on in the long term. It's clear that they pray on runic creatures (humans) and that is highly likely the source of their growth. Rune bears, as name suggests, probably also prey on runes. Difference is that rune bears are visibly taking on dragon characteristics. Question is if they ever even consumed draconic flesh or if they are just becoming dragons "from below", while wyvern-like dragons became dragons "from above" and a distinct from ancient dragons, who don't even drop dragon hearts.
The crazy thing is that any AI-controlled boss that doesn't have a massive AOE attack could lose to the Rennala's first phase by prioritizing the wrong scholars and getting poked to death as a result.
The runebear probably gave me the most trouble a non main boss gave me in any souls game. Took me and a friend forever to kill. Tbf he was one of the first bosses we ran into
The main weakness it appears is that the tune bear is too easily poise broken, if it weren’t for that many of the fights would be easier for it specifically the earlier fights although radahns one shot was completely fair.
It's pretty fair though, because it also poisebreaks bosses easily. Until the bear broke Radahn it was losing, but when it did, it really capitalized on his downtime (unlike Radahn, who only hit the bear once with a weak attack when it was broken). Of course, everyone knew he was gonna win the instant he goes to phase 2.
Holy shit, Gold Shade Godfrey is such a chad. He never staggered once because he just kept swinging and stunlocked the bear into submission. Which is, coincidentally, why my level 50 greataxe hero has killed 3 runebears and my level 150 mage has killed just 1.
I was rooting for the bear the whole time!!! Those flying leaps reminded me of my Feral charge/bear tanking days in World of Warcraft. I think this is the most invested I've ever been in one of these vidoes. I was yelling, "No, get back up Runebear!!!"

I like how these boss battles show how broken the stun and stagger mechanics are. As a player, you need to be a borderline god to stun or stagger just about anything, much less a boss, and then these boss battles have the bosses stunning and staggering the hell out of each other. It is almost as if the mechanic is only there to add "souls-type" difficulty and not anything actually functional.

That was so dope how the rune bear jumped in front of the moon in the background and all you saw was the silhouette of the bear body jumping at rannala for the kill ...perfect timing that was clean rune bear 🤣
Damn, I was almost correct in my predictions. I originally predicted Fire Giant, Godskin Duo, Radagon / EB, Malenia, and Rykard to win. But I didnt know Radahn did soo much dmg outside of meteor and completely underestimated Godfrey's stuns. I guess that has more to do with me overestimating Rune Bear though.
9:00
“This just in; local Florida man fights off feral raccoon in his backyard with a garbage can lid.”
The bear's jump with the moon in the background at 4:20 is cinematic as fuck
That jump attack is bloody brutal
Does way more damage than anything else
i never knew how easy it was to stagger these giant bears (*by certain damage types/abilities). i was always too afraid to hit them more than once before running away like a little bitch
Christ, Malenia didn't even use Waterfowl and still clapped it's cheeks.
Also surprising just how well the bear held up against Maliketh.
Yeah, though tbf their movesets complimented each other really well. It was like two beasts fighting to the death. Oh wait.
Nah but seriously, the Rune Bear almost beat one of two bosses who could solo almost the entire game. And this one could even decimate Malenia.
looks like she had her healing disabled too
@@hellborne7995 yeah lore wise Maliketh mops malenia and in terms of gameplay they’re close despite malenia being scaled higher as an optional area boss.
Imo Maliketh was more memorable with half a health bar than malenia was with two.
@@radicalgear391 I also watch a video where Maliketh butchered her with his health drain. And that bear actually almost beat him.
2:02 forefathers one and all, BEAR WITNESS!
Olfnir: “In my bones I know a Tarnished cannot become Lord… not even you. A man-“
Bear: “I am no man!”
I'd be interested to see how bosses stack up if they were placed in the same regional scaling tier, so they'd be on even footing as far as health and damage are concerned.
Age of Bear
Bear of age
Of Bear age
Ngl that would be the most wholesome ending of all. Just a bunch of bears inhabiting the entire continent and vibing.
@@blackirontarkus3156 I can see that
Godrick: swings axe at back
Bear: “you what mate?”
7:14 Godfrey just jumped over his attack then doing a counter attack of his own stabs him in the back stunning him, then proceeds to stomp on the poor bears head.
Brutal lol
Rune Bear dodged a nuke attack with a gliding body slam. As well as Malikeths first DoT attempt like a boss. And you only acknowledge the well known lordgigachad and his bs? For shame.
@@hellborne7995 i never noticed actually
@@hellborne7995 However, this didn't help him to defeat Maliketh.
Pretty cool at 18:10 how Runebear just hops over Radagons Hammer Slam
Every other boss: *godly power, has some weapon or armor to beat you*
Runebear: "ahah claw goes brrr"
Except hoarah loux
@@desmondcoppin591 and radahn. He just goes meteor mode.
Runebears are formed by bears eating people and aborbing their runes same way as with giant ants, no?
@@Alex-cq1zr Hmm, maybe not. There’s a Zullie video where close inspection of the model indicates that they’re actually becoming bear _magma wyrms._
Just makes me think a rune bear spirit summon for late game would have been awesome
A viable ash for at least a couple future NG's as well. Would probably start to fall off at 3.
Agreed, also Royal revenant
@@colorgreen8728 I just wanna see a Royal Revenant butcher bosses with his 20 punch combo.
@@eetfuk3571 totally agreed lol
The runebear probably gave me the most trouble a non main boss gave me in any souls game. Took me and a friend forever to kill. Tbf he was one of the first bosses we ran into
12:50 for a short moment, Runebear started to believe and almost defeated the Black Blade
Yeah Rune bear got too greedy when he was getting them hits in. He forgot he had to air dodge too.
There is something so primally hilarious about watching demigod warriors get absolutely torn to shreds by deranged feral animals.
Rune Bear: "Finaly, the Elden Beast is staggered I shall use my mighty grab on him"
Me: "No, Rune Bear, stop! This is not how you play the game!"
I wish his grab would work. He attempted to hug Malenia about 3 times.
@@hellborne7995 he's got a good taste, I would've done the same thing if I were him tbh
@@Timur264 No kidding. I'd honestly be willing to die from Scarlet Rot just to have that rear sitting on my face.
Godric was so pathetic that the runebear decided to take a nap halfway through.
13:05 Love how Maliketh cancelled the runebear pattern with roar
Out beasted em
@@DecayingEkzykesFan went beast mode on the beast.
I would like it even more if Maliketh could deflect sorceries and projectiles with this roar. Would serve him well against those candy-ass mages.
I like how the runebear didn't even recognize Godrick as a threat
Morgott really couldn’t Bear it.
Runebear vs First phase Rennala is like every first time player that doesnt know what to do.
It defeated Rick, Soldier of God in ONE hit
How can a single being hold so much power?
It didn't beat Rick, Soldier of God. He opted to leave as he felt the fight wasn't worth the effort
That was not Rick...
@@Zekken.00nah. Rick had PETA on his back after the beastman incident. Wasn’t worth the trouble
Sir Gideon getting swatted around after all the big bosses is so funny to watch
Runebear: I don't want to fight you, let me leave this arena.
Boss: "attacks"
Runebear: Now your fate is sealed.
I really felt that when he said "forefathers one and all, bear witness!"
16:38 Placidusax: "Put these foolish ambitions to rest"
seeing him crush Gideon was so satisfying
any1 know what the debuff skill he used on the bear was?.. you can see the Mark on him right until the end of that fight.
@@tuxedocream thank you thank you =)
Gideon: A tarnished cannot become a lord. Not even you
Runebear: 👁👄👁
Holy shit, Gold Shade Godfrey is such a chad. He never staggered once because he just kept swinging and stunlocked the bear into submission.
Which is, coincidentally, why my level 50 greataxe hero has killed 3 runebears and my level 150 mage has killed just 1.
Poor Gideon was like “THATS NOT A TARNISHED”
I wanna see the most powerful revenant against all bosses.
Don't take me back to Elphael.
