Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. We're taking a trip on the Bicycle Delay from Catalinbread. Named after the trip to end all trips, the Bicycle Delay stays true to its namesake by offering delay effects that previously existed only within the imagination. Different knob positions yield any amount of interesting delay textures, with repeats bathed in ring modulation, octaves, or both. The core of the Bicycle is the Mood knob, which changes the pitch and velocity of the morphing effect. Each repeat is affected any number of times in series, for limitless octave up and down repeats that take you as far as the mind will allow. The radiance control acts as a repeat filter, which interacts with the Mood control extremely well. Expanse and Reflect act as delay time and feedback controls, and when combined with the Mood and Radiance knobs, the delay tones can get downright surreal. Keeping the Expanse and Reflect controls set extremely high yields an unrelenting psychotropic experience at almost any Mood settings, because the signal never dissipates and the delay character changes with every subsequent repeats. Like all Catalinbread pedals, the Bicycle Delay is made right here in Portland Oregon with only the finest nuts and bolts. Видеоклипы
This is the type of delay sound that belongs on a Radiohead droning on unnoticeable until the fade out when it's one of the only few sounds left in the mix and you are like "that was there the whole time?"
+the5chord A Moon Shaped Pool in a nutshell.
Jimi would've LOVED this.
Andy you choice of songs to play never fails! "Speed of Life" for the win
If you're a musician, and you don't know Bowie's "Low",- inside and out,- get thee behind that shit-, today.Genius.
I've been listening to that album since I was about 12 years old I guess. I loved it then and I still love it now, fourty years later.
To me that album is still the best album ever made. ❤️
Sucks that this is crazy expensive! Would love to play around with this! I really dig that Radiohead/Bowie/psychedelic kind of sound! Right down my alley really.
I think it's called bicycle delay for a reason :D
I combine the bicycle delay with the TC Electronic T2 reverb on my "psychedelic board", along with the Carcosa fuzz and a wah I can spend hours giving my neighbors nightmares.
Bowie - Speed of Life…excellent choice!
This is going to be popular in certain dorm rooms. Especially after getting back from hunting fungus in the woods.
Speed of Life.
Faster than the speed of love
Tons of ambient and looping potential. I dig it.
"I would never use it" "Soundtrack sound" "Blah blah blah".
There is a reason there aren't many bowies or radioheads out there.
Nailed it
Right awn.
tera melos does some good stuff with pedals, I recommend their music
Everything Catalinbread makes is state of the art industrial strength neato!! Great products.
Awesomeness! Surely not for everyone but for psych pedalboards a really good addition to the more conventional (read: boring) delays.
I've got a bike. You can ride it if you'd like.
Has it got a basket and a bell that rings and things to make it look good? :)
Youe the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I rode my ‘68 Schwinn Lemon Peeler tonight.
Fun bicycle.
I read a comment on that previous video and had to check this one out. Thank you so much for playing songs off of "Low".
Sounds great! Very cool little musical piece in the beginning.
Can't really tell if this is usable for mere mortals when a genius like Andy is demoing a wild pedal like this, but damn that's some cool sounds. Wonder what it'd produce if you fed it some sweet ambient reverb
Andy...always inspiring to create/play new...Thumbs Up!
Thank you for this, been looking for an unusual delay!
I should have never seen this video, I so want this pedal NOW
Came for the delay, stayed for the Bowie
One of my favorite Andy samples
I actually see this being put to great use.
Between this and the Absolute Wurst, it's a banner year for utterly unprecedented pedals.
Incredible performance! I came for the tech demos but I'm mesmerized by the music
Thank you!
It's one of the best pedals I will never find a use for.
you play pop
If I played pop, I'd probably use it in like one song for the hook. But I'd never put this on my pedalboard.
you play pop
I like these weird pedals. They force you to be innovative.
AgentQQ8 I think buying a new Delay opens up so much more creative options that you wouldn’t have otherwise. So it is quite clear that creativity CAN be bought to a certain degree.
It is so touchy to dial in. Millimeters make drastic changes. Its amazing. Two times it made my amp get stuck on a repeat. Turning amp off (two different amps, different days) made no difference hour later, stuck on same repeat feedback loop. I had to unplug it from the wall and wait. Very strange. Its a knuckle ball effect. I'm glad I have it for sure.
The part from 3:00 was amazing!
i hope too one day own one.
Flawless
Epic ending though
LAWRD JESUS!
I need this.
What a trip to hear this old Bowie tune!!! That whole album is genius. Don't know that I'd get much use out of the pedal though. Your playing is, as always, amazing!
Thanks so much! I was really lucky that the pedal seemed to play this tune itself. Don't forget you can always get conventional Lo-Fi delay like the last example 5:30
Thanks, @@AndyDemos I already have the OG Belle Epoch and Echorec. They both have that wonderful, warm preamp mojo that Howard seemed to bake into all of his Catalinbread pedals. The Belle Epoch is my 'always on' pedal: just makes everything sound better. This one could be tempting waaay down the G.A.S. shopping list. You make it sound great.
Psychedelic,very triply sounding...Interesting...
Strapped some brown acid to my head but it just made this pedal sound normal...... man
what a bummer.
For the record this would be really cool on a pedal steel guitar.
Playing one of these is so fun lol
I like how you can dial between super tame (the slapback at 4:05) to batshit insane (all other settings).
Those hating on this can only play tired shitty blues riffs.
Catalinbread needs to put tap tempo on their delays.
Amen. I'd take a jack for an external tap even.
Nah. Took me long enough to find high end delay pedals that don't take up space with two footswitches. Its always a bit annoying as i never use it. (Exp and tap jack sure why not!)
Dang- it. I still want one of these. The Adineko is the other one I want. They got me for the Zero Point already- it's very cool. Coolest ideas put in an enclosure by the designer of these special effects. I think it's the Asian American guy, what's his name? George? - He's a genius with golden ears. Seriously killer tones. I build pedals too but nothing like this stuff.
This dude loves Bowie, and so do I. May he rest in peace.
Pretty cool, but I already own the Empress Vintage Super Delay, The Red Panda Particle, The Gurus Echosex2 and an old style EHX Deluxe Memory Man, with the classic Panasonic chips. I don't really see a need for another one, even though it sounds cool.
I'd add this to my keyboard rig in a heartbeat if I had the money.
trippy
*the trip to START all trips
This pedal is in dire need of an Expression pedal Jack. If not that, then a MIDI in or DIP switches for the expression pedal routing, then it'd make this perfect for sound experimentation without having to kneel down to get at the controls.
Mix this with a Mr Black Supermoon Chrome and you'd have the best mind-frak around.
FINALLY! I am so stoked about this pedal! I've been looking for a sound that emulates the sounds I heard when I tried DMT once. Catlinbread is trying to rob me.
But can it do angry psychadelic geese?
How does the core delay sound compare to the montavillian...... Is it PT2399?
I love my Belle Epoch and Echorec, but this just doesn't do much for me.
Dig the Bowie, though.
I love Catalinbread stuff , but I mean really ... What exactly was the goal here ? If anyone feels the need to have one I don't think you'll have to wait long for some pretty serious discounts on this one . Also , Andy should get an Emmy for this one . His struggle was real !
What inst. cables are those used on the video?
i would never use the mood cranked like that. the slapback is a good one, but i really dont like those artificial computery sounds....hoping this thing.does some natural musical sounding stuff, cus i love the look and want to get an 18v pedal...yeah w mood in middle it sounds pretty sweet...dont know ifid call it highly musical...
it's more organic sounding than a rainbow machine. ha. organic. true bypass
Soundtrack stuff...
BOWIE RIP
Pretty neat stuff. I like noise making pedals, even if it's just for ambient noises. NoiseKickFX make great pedals for that kind of stuff! I highly recommend their LimeTime Delay pedal!!!
Thank you for the recommendation! These look awesome.
Ah.. "The Gorillaz" pedal. I dig it hehe
You get a like just for Bowie at the beginning.
Ring Delayrator
Acid!
I must be like 40.000 of 47.381 views at this time.
posting this comment on bicycle day lol
Can we use it just as a 'normal' delay pedal?
Yes watch 05:32
@@ProGuitarShopDemos thank you for the reply 🙏🏻
Shouldn’t tap tempo be a necessity nowadays?
The Edge doesn't use tap tempo! It also complicates the circuit, requiring a bigger pedal.
Andy
what cable was he using?
+Herbert .Gatchalian Are they Evidence and the right angle one a Pete Cornish?
they do look like bullet cables silver bullets, just wanted to confirm
I so envy this guy's wife right now
I thought the Korg MIku pedal was weird...
WHAT!? The Miku? Weird? Never. Lol
+Josh Arthurs I'll put one of these behind my Miku and see what happens
+Steven Chabot please do, I will love you forever.
I'm glad this is a thing, and it's cool and all, but it seems pretty... niche. For most people it'd be more of a toy than a practical effect.
Too strange for me!
Low...totally under-rated Bowie album...
Haha that's stupid
a lot of noise here.... maybe somebody could get some usefulness out of it.
Sounds kinda crappy.
Neat idea, not very practical. The kind of sound you'd maybe use at the end of some epic tune about bullfighting & politics, capped off with this psychedlic carnival effect.
But in the right hands, anything can be turned to gold at least once.
I love these sounds but I rarely use them in a live situation
You guys never just let it roll with whatever comes out live? It's fun.
But why not have a pedal just for the times you want to milk a frog? Sometimes its just for the joy of playing something that won't be on your album or tour.
