GRAN TURISMO 2'S BIGGEST ENIGMA (hint: it's a track)

  • After the success of the original Gran Turismo, the sequel expanded on both the cars and the circuits that featured on the previous game. And with the expansion in circuits, came the arrival of some real-world locations, such as Laguna Seca.
But part of the allure of Gran Turismo in general is its array of beautifully crafted fictional circuits, and of course, GT2 delivered a range of new ones to us - building on the classics like High Speed Ring and Trial Mountain.
Tracks like Red Rock Valley and Midfield debuted on GT2 and went on to become fan favourites - despite Red Rock Valley appearing on Gran Turismo 2 and only Gran Turismo 2.
But there were indeed other tracks that debuted on Gran Turismo 2 and were never seen again afterwards. There is another circuit in particular that fits this description - a circuit that has long been forgotten by fans of the series...

Ahh Rome Night. So cool that you made a video talking about it! It's legit one of my all-time favourite GT original tracks, I really fell in love with it after grinding out S-9.
It's such a PD move to design one of their best ever circuits and then use it for almost nothing lol. TBH I do like the idea of it being a pseudo-secret track, it adds a cool mystique to it.

I say with confidence GT6 is the last game where they would've 100% faithfully recreated GT2's original circuits before Kaz decided to hell with that

It was a shame since Rome Night could of been another racetrack for the Italian Nationals, European League, and for some Italian manufacturers races. I really hope GT2+ and Project: A -Spec would give this trace the opportunity to challenge the players to really watch these blind corners. It’s a bit ironic for me since Asphalt 9 has a Rome area so I wouldn’t mind really learning this track.

Rome and Seattle's short layouts being completely absent after GT2 was an odd decision to me, especially since GT3 had a problem the lack of short courses (especially for the early-game; Grand Valley East's absence is probably the most notable example).
And on the transition from GT3 to GT4, was a shame to see Rome, SSR11, and SSR5 Wet excluded (especially since the last one apparently had an unfinished version present in the GT4 Prologue Prius build).

    • @walthuuuuu
      @walthuuuuu Месяц назад +1

It's most likely because Gran Turismo 3 had to meet a tighter deadline than expected. Doing the short variations would mean more would have to be rendered, designed, and programmed since GT3 ran on a different engine than GT2.

Look at the blocked off road diverting to the right at 3:49 and how it has guardrails on both sides. Then there's the tarmac and blue-and-white barrier beyond the tire barriers in the hairpin at 4:24. Finally, look at the wireframe model at 5:02; sure looks like there's space set aside for a link road between the start of the backstretch and the hairpin.

I've played Rome-Night a lot, but not calling it. To test my car setups I go through the Event Synthesizer's expert option since it is a championship and will generate me 5 tracks.
My favourite direction is the reversed one. The track feels more clear and natural to handle.
I think Rome-Night wasn't added maybe because the developers already did the events and forgot to include it after preparing the licenses.
I guess they have put most work on tracks and pathfinding, then made licensing by recording themselves and finished the development. Maybe they had a very short time to work on that they even forgot to apply rules to events with different types of cars and their manufacturing date.
About modding, I don't know why Project A-Spec choose to include the Test Course as new event of Endurance. It would be way better if we had a Rome Night 3 Hours race with a pool of mostly italian GT cars.
Going off the Rome-Night theme, one track I didn't had a luck to encounter is Autumn Ring reverse if possible. Would remind me of Gran Turismo 5/6.

there is one track I was hoping to find through gameplay after the licenses, that one we got in the IA-10 with the GT ONE but as we can see it's only that sector of turns and nothing more, can some tell with track it would be or if it's just created to that test?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's called 'Super Fast Corners' and it's based on the Eau Rouge section of Spa. Sadly it's not a full track.
You can find out more about all the licence tests here. :) ruclips.net/video/PDd0naRfaKk/видео.htmlsi=IG3Y2zjtioCFbhZL

I have checked Google Earth, and cannot find this track. Somebody claimed to have, but the dimensions are comedically off

You could get to 98%, be less than an hour from finishing, then suddenly you're presented with a brand new track you've never been on before 🤔
