There's something about the orchestration of Elton Joh's songs from this era that make it sound like the music is just tumbling down from on high. It's so authoritative, and at the same time, so relatable. Taupin's lyrics are just as incredible, these little glimpses into people's souls, "take a balloon and go sailing, while Levon slowly dies." Damn. So much passion and talent came together in that partnership.
I think "Rock of the Westies" in 1976 was his last real Rock n Roll album, and even it was marred by a lousy bassist. For some reason Elton fired Nigel Olsson and the amazing Dee Murray, one of the greatest bass-guitarists of all time.
Elton John has such a huge catalog -- even if you focus only on 1970 - 1975 or so - you could easily do a whole series on just him. We were so spoiled in the early 70's. EJ, Carly Simon, Cat Stevens, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Led Zeppelin, the Carpenters, Credence Clearwater Revival, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, The Spinners, The Temptations...many more. So much variety, and they all just seemed to explode in those years.
Elton John made some beautiful music, and like someone else already said...he could do NO wrong in the 70's. He played the Pinball Wizard in the movie version of The Who's "Tommy", and he killed it.
Elton and Bernie’s output in the 70s was PHENOMENAL. Would love to see you react to Amoreena. Great reaction. Hey! I’m pointing at you! We want a song about Tre!! 😁. Kidding aside...glad you are back up brother!
Tre, Elton really did a powerful number called “Madman Across The Water”. It was supposedly about our president Nixon, but you could interject anyone now a days. Very surprising talent. You would also like an almost never mentioned piece that is about the way the native Americans felt toward the sunset of their existence. Amazing words, you’ll push the “like” button.
Terrific song but which version? The original had those strings keeping it from truly rocking and his overly nasal singing stops me cold. The live version from "11-17-70" rocks but non-fans may not dig its minimalism. The early-70s TV-radio stereo simulcast may be the best performance but the sound quality wasn't great.
This song has a few meanings. The main being about a man and his struggles to come into his own. Levon is a play on words. “he shall be-lieve on” as he continues through his journey
Tre! You got a haircut! You look great and you also kind of look like Malcolm X. Don’t think I’m crazy but to me you look like the great man. Now I loved your reaction to Elton John’s Levon and yep you got the pronunciation 100% correct. Elton and his lyricist have written hit after hit after hit. Elton is not like anyone else, he’s totally unique. There are a few that are similar like Leon Russell. Leon is terrific and you should listen/react to ‘Delta Lady’.
The studio version of Holiday Inn, Elton John has an amazing mandolin accompaniment if you want some mandoline bars. Elton's song writer was poet, Bernie Taupin.
Love the channel Tre! Please do Elton John's Teacher I Need You and Blues For Baby and Me as well as his appearance on Soul Train singing Philadelphia Freedom!
Bernie got the name Levon from the drummer of The Band who's name was Levon Helm. They were big fans of The Band. Early Elton. So Good. Do 'Where to now St. Peter'
I haven't been here for a while. We've had a lot going on here in C J, MO with the EF3 tornado that just missed my house. Prayers for those who lost loved ones to this monster. I just found out you're channel was taken down. You would think they would want to get their music out there to people who have never heard it? Levon is off the great Madman Across The Water album. The title song, Levon and Tiny Dancer are all E J favorites of mine. Great to see you back Tre!
That’s what was great being a kid in the 70’s and hearing these great songs on the radio as they came out. Special times. Watch that movie “Invincible “ with Mark Wahlberg and it’s intro and you will get that vibe.
Elton did an "Inside The Actors Studio" interview in 2005 and demonstrated how to instantly write a song by using a random bit of text from a book one of the students provided. He explained how he made his choices as he went along. He writes music as effortlessly as he breathes. The episode is on youtube but my linking skills suck. Definitely worth a look.
When I first discovered Elton two of my favorite songs he did were Lucy in the sky with diamonds and Pinball Wizard I had no idea at the time that they were covers lol silly kid but still to this day I think they are the best covers done by anyone ever so if you get a chance you won't be sorry promise...♡
Connie Leighton, that's when I also discovered both Elton and Pop/Rock music. I was maybe 11 and the evening news had a segment about the upcoming release of the movie of "Tommy" by The Who. Suddenly this joker appears in 5 foot tall boots, crazy eyeglasses and a toque with a big silver pinball instead of a pom-pom (to a Canadian kid like me that mattered!). The theatricality and fantasy of it all instantly electrified me, and the wild sounds shooting out of Elton's fingers made me an instant lifelong fan.
Elton John is a good songwriter, however, Bernie Taupin is the Lyricist. Bernie writes the lyrics and gives them to Elton, where he writes the music to said lyrics.
Elton proved you correct, Tre. He was interviewed on "Live in the Actors Studio" and the host challenged Elton to create music out of anything at all. So one audience member offered them some instruction manual. Elton sat with it at the piano, opened it to a random page and began composing a decent little ditty. Then he stopped, declared himself dissatisfied because he had thought of something better, and then blew away the audience with his new Instructions song. But as always, Elton did not and could not write the lyrics himself.
A group from the 70’s, Barclay James Harvest has a great song called ‘For No One’. Please check it out. And one more, if you haven’t reacted to it is Mississippi Queen by Mountain (Leslie West). Sorry for being greedy and suggesting three songs but I think you’ll dig them! 😍Annie in tn
Elton John has been writing songs with the same co-writer since his career began. Elton and Bernie Taupin could write the phone book and make it sound great. Try tiny dancer, the bitch is back, Philadelphia freedom, someone saved my life tonight, mad man across the water. All classic jams. Keep rockin 👍Tre.
Bernie Taupin wrote all the lyrics and Elyon put them to music. Sometimes he had no idea what the songs were about and just wrote music to how it felt. Bernie didn't format his lyricis. They were just blocks of text. He had no idea what Elton would do musically. When I wrote lyrics, I hear the music in my head and put spaces between the verses, I dent the prechorus and indent the chorus further. Bernie didn't, leaving Elton to decide entirely what to do with it all. And with all the success they had as a team for about ten years, it worked great. I believe Elton has the record for the most consecutive years with at least one top 40 hit at either 26 or 30 years (either would be a record). The 26 is because that was the first time he only had one hit that charted both years, and that happen again twi years later. if you count it as a hit in both years, he was on the charts every year from 1970 - 1999. That's longer than some people on the charts today have been alive.
Understand that the story telling is done by Mr. Bernie Taupin. Bernie writes the lyrics and then Elton, or Reggie, writes the music. They've been a team from the beginning.
Please react to more Elton John. He has made SO MANY great songs over the years. You’re doing yourself a disservice by not listening to more Elton John. Please and thank you.
Interesting your comment about giving him anything and he can write a song about it.... he did an musician's workshop once where he explained just that. He said he was always good at taking lyrics and finding music for it. He proved his point in front of the audience when he opened a book to a random page, took a paragraph, found the lyrics in it, found a melody, contrived a hook, and played it flawlessly for the audience. All in about 3 minutes. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/Atg_tE6FDaI/видео.html
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters with clips from Almost Famous Movie. ruclips.net/video/-0w1KM4H9-w/видео.html Since you are into these songs you should watch the movie too.
The musical arrangement made the song have epic status. This would have been a hit without words at all. The writing is excellent, but only on par with the written melody.
One of the greatest Elton songs ever
Elton John couldn't do any wrong in the seventies!
The early/mid 70's that is. He lost me by the time he got to 'Philadelphia Freedom.' His earlier stuff is truly incredible, though.
I think "Rock of the Westies" in 1976 was his last real Rock n Roll album, and even it was marred by a lousy bassist. For some reason Elton fired Nigel Olsson and the amazing Dee Murray, one of the greatest bass-guitarists of all time.
Early seventies Elton John was magnificent.
Still some of the best strings I've heard on any rock recording. I'm convinced that Madman Across the Water was Elton John's best single album.
That second verse chokes me up every damn time I hear it.
Again Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics lol but glad you loved it Tre 😃
Serious, this is the gold standard for reaction channels. Glad you found a way to make it work.
Tre, missed you...glad you are back in the saddle....:)
Elton John made some beautiful music, and like someone else already said...he could do NO wrong in the 70's.
He played the Pinball Wizard in the movie version of The Who's "Tommy", and he killed it.
Beautiful classic Elton John

My ALL TIME favorite EJ song!!
Such a great vocal performance. Probably my favorite Elton John song.
"Where to Now St. Peter?" "Come Down in Time"
Yes!!!
sweetbabyray1000 Burn Down The Mission!
I can’t believe no one I’ve seen has ever reacted to Take Me To The Pilot-Elton John. That’s always been my favorite amongst many great songs ☺️
Elton John, so many songs from the soundtrack of our lives!
This song has a few meanings. The main being about a man and his struggles to come into his own. Levon is a play on words. “he shall be-lieve on” as he continues through his journey
If you go down the Elton John road you will be a happy man. Great songs to react to with the lyrics of Bernie Taupin and the music of Elton.
Till the next time we say goodbye. Beautiful song by the rolling stones
Lwhen he gets to "take a balloon and go sailing" I always cry. I can't be alone on that.
Levon and My Father’s Gun are my 2 favorites from Elton.
Tre! You got a haircut! You look great and you also kind of look like Malcolm X. Don’t think I’m crazy but to me you look like the great man. Your Song by Elton John is beautiful. Also Daniel, Tiny Dancer and Candle In The Wind. Love Elton John. His son’s middle name is Levon.
He is one of my top musicians of all time. He is probably my favorite singer songwriter. The guy is a genius. Glad to see back you Tre!!!
Finally someone reacts to EJ. Thanks dude, you made my day.
Peter'
Check out Bennie & the Jets or Crocodile Rock, i gotta get up & groove to both when i hear him rock 🔥🔥🔥
Try Mona Lisas and Mad Hatter, best Elton John song, IMHO.
I haven't been here for a while. We've had a lot going on here in C J, MO with the EF3 tornado that just missed my house. Prayers for those who lost loved ones to this monster. 'Cause he likes the name.
I could tell...you rock
Good to see you back it! Try "Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatter's" you'll understand once you pisten
I still like Benny & the Jets by Elton John. Maybe you could react to that, pretty please?
That’s what was great being a kid in the 70’s and hearing these great songs on the radio as they came out. Special times.
Watch that movie “Invincible “ with Mark Wahlberg and it’s intro and you will get that vibe.
Just found out you were back! Great news this the only real reaction channel. Try satriani shockwave supernova album you won't be disappointed.
I had to re-subscribe, when I clicked on it I was told that channel was no longer available.
Levon Helm, Elton really liked his voice. He sang and played drums for the 'Band'.
i a lways loved that chorus. For some reason it gives the song even more depth.

Check out Elton John Oven Manual song, or Flood song. Yes, he can put amazing music to ANYTHING.
So glad we haven't lost you, Tre! Guess I missed the transition...
Elton John is a good songwriter, however, Bernie Taupin is the Lyricist. Bernie writes the lyrics and gives them to Elton, where he writes the music to said lyrics.
You talked over that awesome piano intro.
I always forget to like your reactions. But I love your classic rock reactions

Catching up as fast as possible!

Bernie Trapin writes the lyrics for the songs Elton John puts the music to the words
Bernie Taupin wrote all of the lyrics for a long time. Elton wrote and performed the songs.
All of these requests are the popular ones, try Love song by him...only played on FM stations back in the early 70's.
If you haven't yet madman across the water is a great song.
Levon: Bernie Taupin got the name from Levon Helm of The Band....
Bernie Taupin wrote all the lyrics and Elyon put them to music. Sometimes he had no idea what the songs were about and just wrote music to how it felt.

Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
Rocketman is worth a watch Tre
Damn, took a week but I found you ☮️
Important songs
Do "Amoreena" by Elton!
The story telling is all Bernie Taupin. Bernie wrote the lyrics. Elton put them to music.
Elton don't write the songs, Bernie does, Elton does the music.
Without music it is poetry. Bernie wrote poems. Elton wrote the music and made Bernie's poems into songs.
@@kathleencollins5531 don't think he wrote the music, he played the music for the lyrics.
You rock

Would love to see your reaction to the Live in Australia version of The Greatest Discovery.
Actually, Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics.
Did you see the Rocketman movie tre?
yo tre' NICE!!!!
He did write the tunes, but not the lyrics. That being said, point at any good lyrics and he could probably compose a beautiful tune.
Tre ? what happened ? did they try and shut you down ?
Please react to elton john live performance of tiny dancer and rocketman! So good
any song off GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD
This song *sounds* great, but I've never understood wth they were talking about.
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters with clips from Almost Famous Movie. ruclips.net/video/-0w1KM4H9-w/видео.html Since you are into these songs you should watch the movie too.
yo tre' it was mostly Bernie taupin that was the creator bro
The musical arrangement made the song have epic status. This would have been a hit without words at all. The writing is excellent, but only on par with the written melody.
Typo listen lol
