not going to happen unless *masses* of *new* people want to watch it. The existing fan-base, however enthusiastic it is, is not enough. Streaming platforms need new subscribers, not just to retain their existing ones.
Despite being very cautious about any new science fiction shows in development, I would fully commit to _anything_ this team of writers and producers is involved with. The Expanse was as close to sci fi perfection as anything I could have imagined. The very first episode of The Expanse left me hooked and I watched every episode twice, despite having a demanding, 60 hour per week career in tech engineering. Amazon can't lose with this team. Thanks for the updates, SciTrek! 👍
I wish we were getting more of The Expanse, but hey...I'll love this one! I just got the Mercy of The Gods audiobook and will check it out after I wrap up my 11th re-watch of The Expanse.
They Expanse Telltale game, while fairly short, was an interesting story in The Expanse universe. If you're unaware of it, then I recommend checking it out.
The Expanse should have continued on to Persepolis Rising, Tiamat's Wrath, and Leviathan Falls. But I guess the actors needed to age a little more to be in line with the age of the characters. Maybe The Captives War trilogy beginning with Mercy of the Gods is something to get financing to properly conclude The Expanse. We'll see.
I'd like to see the Expanse follow the exploits of Drummer, at least initially, as head of the Transport Union. Its a whole new organization with lot's to negotiate as the outer worlds expand trade, Mars finds a new role, and the protomolecule is evolving on an off world.
It's fun to watch the show again, as you are reading the book. There are so many things that the show did that are better than the book, while the book is better in some parts.
Mercy of the Gods is different from the Expanse but stands on its own. It’s dark and not an easy read, but I suspect it will follow the pattern of Expanse in that we don't really know what it's about yet. Remember thinking that Expanse was about a missing girl mystery, then about an spooky alien life form invasion? Turns out it wasn't at all. And so the initial plot of MOTG, humans being overun and enslaved by another alien species, is likely not where the series is ultimately heading, as hinted at by the "betrayal" references in the first book. We'll see.
Thanks for your reporting. I'm hopeful we'll get a series covering the Laconian trilogy contained in Persepolis Rising, Tiamat's Wrath, and Leviathan Falls. Until then, I'll just have to watch the Expanse through again for the tenth time.
have not read the expanse books, but as far I know from topic rehash where the tv series ended that time era ended too in books and continued with a huge time jump, the whole story takes place over some 3 centuries, so somebody /maybe ai text to video feature/ could flawlessly continue with the story someday....or you just read the books and use your imagination :-D
I heard rumors of this the other day and was waiting to see your take on it before getting to excited. I just ordered the book to read it this winter. Great news.
I would have hoped for a return of the Rocinante and crew, ( can't get enough of Amos). But this colony you mentioned, will it have anything to do with that colony we saw in the last couple episodes of the Expanse, or a completely new location?
Unknown at this time. The earther planet attacked is isolated and does not know its own history. The book tells us the outcome of the story which is odd
I really love Mercy of Gods. It is actually more conducive to be turned into a TV series in the sense that they involve a smaller sets of characters in limited few locations. They certainly have enough material for one season but not much beyond that. I am not sure whether the IP getting serialised so early on is a good thing. Alas, not every writer would turn into a George RR Martin and Abraham had a much better track record of finishing books. One thing also in his favour is they are doing a deal with Amazon, which doesn’t mind a few years in between seasons.
The Mercy Of Gods was a great read (listen?), as was Live Suit (a short story in the same universe). Would make a great series if handled appropriately. There is mention of Caladan in the latter of the two, which ties it back to The Expanse, long after the last book in the third trilogy. That is as close to an explanation of how humans got 'out there' in the first place.
I'm not overjoyed about the idea of beginning a series on Mercy of God's at this point. The advantage The Expanse had was that it was already an essentially completed saga before it came to the screen. We don't want another Game of Thrones
If I was in expanse I'll be a beltah. I'm a rewatch the show I forgot all about it till you brought this up. They should keep it going it was a 🔥 series you should do a Gan rewatch bro
The TV Expanse created a major deviation from the books with the killing off of Alex. A character that is key to the storyline &… spoiler alert… lives all the way to the end of the original series. So… what path is left? Spin-off sub plot storylines? Storylines that cannot relate to the original books? I’m sorry but I’m not seeing how this will work.
Doing a show before a books series is complete seems like a bad idea, looks what happened to Game of thrones. I reckon they should just complete the rest of the expanse series or do a show from some other science fiction author who has completed their series like Adrian Tchaikovsky, Dan Simmons or Peter Hamilton ... Orson Scott, whatever there are so many great SciFi series with new ideas that have not been put to screen yet.
Its too bad this is so hard. Firefly blew it and the actors mostly died. Expanse still has a chance. It was the Lord of the Rings in the hard SF segment. An almost infinite number of story possibilities exist even without the ring gates. With the current production technology, it would be amazing. Sigh...
There's literally a whole universe with many planets in the Expanse universe to create original stories. By the time they do books 7-9 the original cast will be a right age lol
Give us "Persepolis Rising", etc or bust. Loyal novel readers like myself coupled with the legion of show-only fans deserve no less. There's been enough passage of time already to explain away the novel's use of a generation going by by saying everyone is ~10 years older than the end of S6, and Duarte's daughter can be easily inserted just as she was written. If the issue is 'well Amazon Prime ruins everything in genre they touch', then the show runners and the Corey duo must bring it to Apple, who has a fantastic track record on quality sci fi adaptations and given a good presentation, they'd be more than happy to pour dump trucks full of cash into it. Look at how amazing 'Foundation' as an adaptation of existing material has turned out; and they recently finished principle photography for season 3 of that epic, with a release date set for 2025. It'd be win-win for all concerned.
Noooo! We need the resolution to the expanse! They setup threads in the last seasons on Amazon with the colony on the planet through the gate, they should try and take it to netflix in particular as they were interested back when amazon took it over, and if they could get a 2 or maybe 3 season deal with them, they could finish out the story properly! If netflix were interested back then, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be interested now too!
We don't need the last three Expanse books soon, as the characters in these books are a fair bit older than the actual actors at the moment. I'm patient when it comes to good scifi, so bring another project on in the meantime!
I was under the impression that the reason the Expanse series was cancelled, was because one of the main characters was charged with rape in real life. This gave the studio the problematic issue of either killing off the character contrary to the books, or replacing the character with another actor (which often goes down badly) or just cancelling further episodes. In the end, they decided to just kill the character, tie of some of the easier plot points, and kill the show. Edit: Actually, it's not too dissimilar a situation to Red Dwarf, except in RD's case, they waited till the furore died down and quietly re-started the show with the individual. Though a lot of women's groups were not happy happy about it (understandably so).
I love The Expanse. Can I share a great series like it. Expedition Force 19 + books by Craig Alanson. One of the best audio book narration ever done by R.C Bay.
Yeah, finish the 1st Show... It about money...it has little to do with story or cast ... It comes down to WHO GETS WHAT $ Wise. And if they want to talk about a Modern Day "Combat" (Assuming You remember the old TV Series) SciFi Military a perfect Series of Books by Rick Partlow would easily translate to the small screen. And would be a great choice for a Series.
Mercy of gods is a great book, but completely different in tone from the Expanse. personally I’d far rather have more Expanse. Even if (SPOILERS)… … Mercy of Gods leaves enough ambiguity to still be set in the Expanse universe.
So a prequel looking at their struggle to get to where they were by the time Expanse Series 1 started? I think there is huge opportunity for really compelling prequel material. My first thought was more towards the Martian struggle to assert its own identity vs Earth, building its military etc (maybe that's because I associate more with the Martians than the Belters) but you're absolutely right that the development of the Belter civilisation to get to where they were when we first saw them (Miller as a cop on Ceres etc) would also make for really compelling TV. A well structured prequel show - that would certainly be worthy of multiple series to tell the stories properly - could cover both and Earth too.
There is a story on RUclips the Black Ship which would be perfect for this same production company. ruclips.net/video/YWEGUfIptxI/видео.htmlsi=6I2nTqUySCHtB64f

Someone has to actually finance doing more of The Expanse. So far no one has stepped up to the plate. I'm not sure why you're blaming the creators/showrunners, when it's not their decision. They don't have the funds to do it. Someone has to give them money to do it.
@@wildbill4496 Of course I'm not blaming the showrunners. I'm blaming the studio morons who provide financing. I am blaming whatever stupid bean counter made the decision. Probably the same idiot who decided to spend another 100 million dollars on rings of power season 2.
@@SteveSimpson Why is three seasons of a new unproven series a better risk than 3 seasons of a proven hit that costs the same or less per episode? They already have much of the designs, costumes, sets, props, and probably actors willing to return. They could tweak the continuity to shorten the in universe time gap between books 6 and 7 so that many of the same actors and designs could be used.
I kind of agree here. I read MOTG and did not mind it but did not find it as compelling or relatable as the Expanse and think the last three books of Expanse would be indeed expensive to pull off, but would rather see that. Some may have a different take on MOTG, but it is so over-the-top that I don't know how they pull it off. It's the kitchen sink of aliens and they will have to simplify the complexities of that angle to keep it relatable or even visually believable. Gobs of CGI. Cue up Zebra's 'Whos behind the door'....
You said Amazon. OMG that is a disaster. They have butchered and destroyed classic fantasy series and now they are moving to the Expanse! Yes, I know that they bankrolled seasons 4 to 6, but those were the short seasons and done after the tone and cast was already established. The current stuff Amazon is churning out is pure "reimagining" garbage that only has the source material name slapped on top. I will definitely need to move the last three books up my reading order to get them done before I can be exposed to the amazon mind plague version of them. I used to really want to see my favorite books brought alive on a screen, but not after the last 5 years of live action hell.
@@scitrek Didn't read my response I see. Apparently reading is hard. Yes, they did season 4-6 of The Expanse AFTER the settings feel, the cast and the on screen characters were established in seasons 1-3 on the other network. This will be a completely new show set years after with a completely new cast and look. Probably more future'ry with "2x4 to the head" agenda sermons. Amazon has firmly established what they do will genre shows based on novels and staying faithful to the source is not in their process.
@@spencesanders7879 Amazon only bankrolled the last 3 seasons. The production remained firmly in the hands of Alcon for all 6 seasons. This new venture is being produced by Expanding Universe - the production company formed by Naren Shankar, Breck Eisner, Daniel Abrahams and Ty Franck.
@@scitrek My argument is that that Amazon is purposely destroying IP's in order to push their agendas. They were unable to do that with the Expanse because it was too late to make all the gratuitous swaps and the character personalities were already established along the books. Amazon will not and does not do that. They completely transform characters into caricatures. I understand you have a vested interest in playing up the Hollywood types that are your sources. They may even be paying to say the correct things. But if Amazon had actually made The Expanse from the first episode I am sure the show would resemble the books as much as the movie Starship Troopers resembles the source book. Not at all. The only reason The Expanse seasons 4-6 were made like they were is because it was too late to change. The aborted messes of WoT and RoP are beacons of just how bad any genre show will fare under Amazon. At least it looks like they will be able to save 40k from destruction by killing that project.
@@hugoortega195 and it is related to the expanse anyway. The creators doing a new project but also that they gave t given up on the expanse in the future. In some form.
@@scitrek you can justify your bait and switch video all you like you literally mention The Expanse more times than the book the new show, which has nothing to do with The Expanse, is based on EXPANSE literally dominates your thumbnail, and the book you mention is literally the smallest element in the thumbnail Just because most people don't know how clickbait works doesn't mean you are immune from critiques against it.
Keep creating videos...at some point in the future, you may actually be correct. But unfortunately, that is not now. None of your videos have come to fruit.
You’ve put this comment up so many times before and every time I chuckle. The content of this video is confirmed and we told you about Shankar etc production plans a year ago, you can google it, Expanding Universe. Silly billy 😏
They ruined The Expanse TV show, mainly because the later books would've needed way more special effects and effort to make them interesting. The plot gets less interesting (partly because the mystery's revealed) and the actors' salaries went up. It's a shame, because the first three seasons were amazing. Then we got an okay-ish 4th season, and straight-up meh to bad 5th and 6th ones. The 5th season especially could've been so much better. So how are they gonna pull it off this time? If they get a budget similar to The Expanse, cheaper actors might help, but this new story would need a TON of special effects, CGI, etc.
If it was any other company than Amazon, I would be happy, but they’re going to give it the woke treatment. They’re going to rinse it debit and they’re going to destroy it and make it untenable for anyone to watch because they can’t help it. They have to do it no hope for this series.
@ woke is anything that has to do with race swapping gay or trans issues pronouns the disparagement of one race for others namely white people if you’re going to be call yourself inclusive you’re going to be inclusive meaning you’re going to inclusive everybody.
Just make it good. Not woke. Just good. Otherwise this will go the way of Warhammer....
They did the expanse
@@scitrek Didn't read my response I see. Apparently reading is hard. Yes, they did season 4-6 of The Expanse AFTER the settings feel, the cast and the on screen characters were established in seasons 1-3 on the other network. This will be a completely new show set years after with a completely new cast and look. Probably more future'ry with "2x4 to the head" agenda sermons. Amazon has firmly established what they do will genre shows based on novels and staying faithful to the source is not in their process.
@@spencesanders7879 I did read it but I’m underlying the point that your argument is flawed by your own argument.
Please let it not be woke dei based.
Other then that a good story is all we need
Great news! Amazon is well known for excellent non woke storytelling...
Good on them to have a new project, but this was total clickbait, and this means The Expanse will never be brought back
Huh? I appreciate you might have assumed the title meant something else but is the tile and title not 100% accurate?
@@scitrek common man you had EXPANSE in huge letters and you went minutes into the video before you mentioned that this was unrelated to The Expanse
@@hugoortega195 it’s not clickbait if the title is accurate sorry. The book cover of the new story is literally on the tile.
@@hugoortega195 and it is related to the expanse anyway. The creators doing a new project but also that they gave t given up on the expanse in the future. In some form.
@@scitrek you can justify your bait and switch video all you like you literally mention The Expanse more times than the book the new show, which has nothing to do with The Expanse, is based on
EXPANSE literally dominates your thumbnail, and the book you mention is literally the smallest element in the thumbnail
Just because most people don't know how clickbait works doesn't mean you are immune from critiques against it.
😊😊😉😉😉
Better finish the books before making tv series. We don’t need another game of thrones
New book is pretty boring. unlikable tedious main characters. Will give this a hard pass.
this guy is boring
look at the mug collection
Nobody cares about the new project.
I guess you must have missed all the stealth woke woven into the entire fabric of (all 6 seasons of ) The Expanse 🤣
What an interesting way of telling you that you didn't read the books or watch the series.
Care to define what you think woke means?
@ woke is anything that has to do with race swapping gay or trans issues pronouns the disparagement of one race for others namely white people if you’re going to be call yourself inclusive you’re going to be inclusive meaning you’re going to inclusive everybody. Too many protagonists female in all of the antagonist male. And pushing leftist communist ideals over common sense that is what woke is that what is what needs to be crushed like an insect?
I am sure today's producers will ruin it with a bunch of woke BS.
