She’s the best . It’s her Era
When she references the NHS- they are our doctors and nurses and anyone who works in hospitals. The NHS are being underpaid by the government. They often strike because the government has treated them badly yet we needed them during Covid. And they out themselves at risk with not having proper PPE. So I think it's good she is drawing the worlds action to it.

Raye is honest about her demons while also acknowledging what the industry standards she participated in and resents.
As she’s mixing the ingredients she’s got blonde hair playing the beauty standard and entertaining audiences while atrocious scenes happen behind her.
She’s incredible because everything has a point. She’s trying her best to be authentic in a world that pressures people to give up.

Whew! Well, that was a ride! Stunning is the word that comes to mind. You said it, this "song" (is it just a song?) is amazing on so many levels. Musically it covers a wide range of genres, yet somehow never feels disjointed and always is great. Lyrically? Omg, she is next-level and is so up-front and honest about her own short-comings - you FEEL this song. Her vocals are again so diverse and simply spectacular in all of the styles she chooses to adopt. Then she hits you with the video, which (agreed) is crazy good and visually fits the songs ebbs & flows so well. This is definitely not radio friendly in length, but it has so much put into it, it's deserving of attention. Thanks again for this wonderful reaction, Ash.
The crazy thing is just went on Spotify on my ride over to pick up Eden, and I realize she actually split the song into three on Spotify and there’s a full length version. Genius!
Raye is absolutely remarkable, I’ve been a huge fan for years now but her recent work solidifies why I loved her in the first place. When she became an independent artist, it quite literally controlled tides. I love seeing other people recognize her talent and growth, thank you for another beautiful reaction

I didn't fathom she was talking about depression in the second part. Wow, just wow. She's not just a incredible vocalist, who keeps mixing so many different genres of music so seemingly. She's also a fucking amazing songwriter, that metaphor.... What a mastermind.

It makes me really happy that Genesis carries every part of what makes RAYE a fantastic singer and performer. The ballady-talk-singing at the beginning, the hiphop and gospel choir sound she loves and the jazz instrumental of her live perfomances. This song has it all. It's more than just career defining, this is self-defining and genre defying. The music video is a cherry on the top for her artistic expression. I really want her to see all the success in the world. 7 minutes of pure excellence.

Cometh the hour cometh the woman! Raye is not only a phenomenal musician she’s also doing important work! Her lyrics are so timely & necessary especially in the UK where corporate forces of darkness have wreaked havoc on our political landscape & society. It’s time for change. We in the uk can feel it in the air. Our country desperately needs positive change. And Raye articulates this perfectly 👊🏼👍🏼 let there be light indeed!!

You must know that RAYE is in the music industry for 8+ years, but her label emprisonned her and gave her false hopes. That's why she was forced to only do EDM / dance featuring ( i.g : HEY NA NA EHHH, DON'T ACT LIKE U KNOW ME NA NA EH ). Therefore, she was never able to express herself and release her OWN album with HER proper name. So she fell into deep a depression and even took drugs since music is her whole world and it's like they put her a tape on her mouth. Also, a lot of people compare her with Amy Winehouse ( they share this jazzy vibe and they both did and quit the famous BRIT school ).
Last year, her career took a turn, she left the abusive label and released her own album called my 21st Century Blues and SHE ATEE ( go listen to it, it's dope af), winning her 6 BRITs award in the same night. Her most famous song from this album is ofc Escapism ( Tiktok viral btw ) and actually in the MV of Genesis, there is a reference to it : when she looks at herself in the crowd with the spilling mascara, it's the same outfit and makeup than in the Escapism MV, and she even says " Still just a heart-broke bitch. But I traded the back of the nightclub, I did, for the bathroom floor" in reference of the lyrics of Escapism " Just a heartbroke bitch high heels six inch in the back of the nightclub sippin' champagne ".
That's one of my top artist for a long time, I discovered her with the song " Natalie Don't " which is incredible, she deserved to be recognized.
If you want to react to more RAYE, I recommend you to listen to "Natalie Don't ", and the concert in the Albert Hall " Oscar Winning Tears " ( her vocals are top tier )

There are certain American artists that get a lot more love (I’m not saying they don’t deserve it either, I’m not in the business of starting fan wars 🤣)… I just really hope this second album makes her impossible to ignore!

Going to watch her live in end of July, never thought I am gonna get so hyped by searching for her name 2 months ago. I mean I saved already 2 of her songs, but the whole hyped didn't catch me before and now I fully understand. Shes maybe the most talented singer of our generation.

I watched a concert with Raye just in her underwear, very embarrassed , but saying every time anyone listens to her songs she feels naked like she was on stage. The respect I have for her as a writer (and obviously a singer) but a raw writer is mindblowing. I love your reviews x
