changes since this champ select was made:
mage update: passive now has ap scaling, if you stack passive with your ult up, you "research" an opponent, this makes your ult laser do true damage instead of magic damage
Very minor, basically the same for years yet he's still very good.

vel'koz like every champion has stronger points and weakness.
Vel'koz can be OP if protected but if u make a trap u can kill him cause of his low life and long range.
I am doin this cause I love this champion and I already died a ton of time cause of is power, to kill a vel'koz use short range atacks (his weakness is low mobility ;D)
Velkoz has some pretty slow skillshots, and he’s also low in both mobility and self peel. He’s a high priority target and would probably die to assassins without any peel, CC or Hourglass. He provides great damage at the cost of being a sitting duck (although he can kite, he’s rewarding for kiting)

I love how there are some that are declaring Vel'Koz broken but he's a utility and power champ. Proper, successful, use of him will depend on personal play and teamwork and strategy. If he is allowed to get focused by any of the enemy's heavy hitters he'll get torn apart like paper. The only tweaks I can see them making are adjustments to his damage tables.

Vel'Koz It's actually officially called brush. Hence the fact that it's more like tall grass than an actual bush.

Velkoz is pretty cool actually, i dont understand why people tell its bad..
The problem that people have is that he's squishy, but if he wasn't squishy he would've been over powered and then nerfed in the next patch. Unless you know how to play and build him, he's "bad."
Hurtunknown But what really adds icing on the cake for him is Magic Penetration, if you can get MP then you'll be set from mid to late game very easily. I found and tested that if you have ~300AP with Liandry's Torment and Void Staff then there is little that the enemy team can do. :D
This becomes apparent in Team fights by using his Q+E+W+R then you can watch as they can lose almost 2k HP in a single burst, and also Liandry's helps with his squishyness.
Is better than than going outright AP, as in I had ~600AP and can almost insta kill ADC's, though it does little damage to tanks like Maliphite.
But all in all he can be the backbone in a team fight dishing out enormous amounts of damage with burst, IF and only IF you can land his skill shots. Otherwise you won't be having fun with him.
People say vel'koz is no good becuase they have no idea how to use him.
I used to think vel was bad cos when he was free everyone i was playing against who was trying him did really bad
I really don't know how can vel'koz be a bad champ.He is has 4 high burst/multy target/big range spells,and 2 of them have ridiculously short cooldown.And,as if that isn't enough,he can deal extra damage(that stacks with lvl) if he sacks 3 spells on someone(which is really not that hard with ridiculously short cooldown).If anything he is OP.

is funny how people says he's a bad champ, when he is one of the best midlanes due the fact he has super wave clear, like ori and syndra, low mana cost, low cooldown, high burst and true damage, and has more range that all mid lanes. goog cc with 2 slows and one knock-up and can shred a whole team in fights. ( if well positioned)..
people just don't know how to play Vel Koz right: that being said, his limited mobility is probably what is keeping him in such a negative mindset, cause it isn't him true damage or ult
Weez naz Just like Birdman. He's literally a midlane god if you play him correctly.
yea, velkoz is a great champion, but just vulnerable to ganks, and people usually target him with cc after he ults, well, smart people anyway
I gotta say I love cellos but his mobility makes him not so good when banked
I personally like Vel Koz as a mid. Recently he's been seeing a lot more play in the bottom lane as a support, but I truly think he is viable in the mid lane. He has high burst with great zone, decent DPS for the burst he has, has a decent autoattack animation making harass and last-hits easy, and to top it all, has a nuke ult. I'm not trying to argue that mid is his best lane, but I feel (after having played him mid in numerous games) he has large amount of potential in the lane, and as such, it confuses me why we don't see more of him.
Not in the LCS per say. Every mid in the LCS nowadays either has insane mobility or is named Xerath/Orianna. Come on; the Syndra nerf was bad, but it was also SYNDRA. She was begging for a nerf.
If Scaramouche is gonna have Vel'Koz laser beam then I NEED HIM
Yeah but then again, something exactly like this would be painful to line up :/ I wonder how they’d get around that
just how thick his beam will be, if it shoots in a straight aoe line, that means enemies have to align themselves in order for his beam to hit it, Or perhaps his beam will be a bit more thicker.
Coming back here with the recent info, I wonder if the leaked just completely made that up 💀

I feel like that viktor built badly, a power augmented laser with a standard ap build would have nearly one shot that vel koz. Riot has been pushing how weak viktors laser is next to lux and velkoz, but really it is a non ultimate that in most end game circumstances hits just as hard. That extra burn damage is scary.

Geometry indeed. Confirmed - to play Vel'Koz effectively you must be a descendant of Pythagoras.
Not really since you can reactivate his Q midway all you need to do is to imagine a line nothing more :P , if you want sick plays though its time to study math :)
