Spot on! epic location kayak fished there a few years back was bloody good fun mean currents though 😂 didn't know how much of a great white spot it was though 😮 nothing better then going camping remote good for the body and soul
Oh man! I went there in a Combi van thirty years ago when on a band tour of the upper North Island. What a place and awesome kia moana with great memories. Thanks Ollie.
19:03 That place is so special so sacred and is why you were so at peace, You are a true Kaitiaki of the moana brother Ollie the way you show the highest respect towards the ocean and sea life is unreal bro, If everybody was as conservative as you are there will be fish for the future .
Cheers brother. It really was a special experience there. I’ve heard stories of people feeling spooked or whatever from the history of the place but it was one of the most calming, peaceful places I have ever been to, hard to describe. I guess some people pick up on different things intuitively and maybe they just sensed a g white while swimming! But yes, a special Sacred place for sure man 🤙
This just shows how much you love what you do, drive 7 hrs for the weekend. Usually that amount of time on the road is in xmas holidays, thankyou ollie for this vid i enjoyed watching, will go back and watch some ive missed. Great stuff ollie. Living the dream 🙂👌👌
I recognised that place straightaway. Absolutely stunning beach. The pinkish hue to the sand, blue water and green hills make for a magical combination. Oh and the Kai Moana isn’t bad either.
Dude! Your food segments are getting better and better. I'm super glad you take the time to film everything and share it with us. I go out spearing and hunting thinking to myself "how would I ever fit in setting up the shot" or "I'm way too busy doing it, I can't believe people can film this stuff"...! Oh, and upgrade your soy to tamari.
I love how grateful you are, looking at every opportunity to enjoy the moment. Loving and looking after our beautiful Aotearoa. Interesting way of filleting the Kingy, looks easier than doing the big fillet in one go. Thanks for sharing these awesome moments with us!
It's been over a decade since I last visited that place , remember like it was last week. Still looks as good as it did then, you picked the right time of year Peaceful. Awesome vid bro
Oh, now I need to pull my kayaks out and hit the coast. I’m in Northern California and every now and then we get the ghosts of the deep out here White Seabass I think they come up because of the El Niño‘s, a friend of mine, Nate saw two go past swung his gun, slowly saw a flash out of his left eye barely enough time to react and pulled the trigger and pulled up a 4 1/2 foot White Seabass…. speargun at 60 feet. It reminds me of where you’re at in this video. Great memories my friend thank you. And I know what you mean about the current .
Awesome bro. Instantly recognised that place when you pulled up. What a mission, but rewarding getting to such isolated spots like this. Keep up the good videos mate
Thanks for all the awesome vids Ollie! i have had many hours enjoying variously spearfishing from my otherwise depressing couch watching your journeys! Thank you
Incredible place..Was up there 45 years ago.. A a huge school of Kings and Kahawai boiling the size of half beach...pushed up Piper and Herring at high tide..and huge piper jumped onto the sand to avoid them..we got about 15 odd..were of a size you never see these days..about 700grams a piece and 40 cms..Seriously..No BS...It was in day before cameras being cheap so unfortunately never documented it...our whole family of 7 were only ones there...I was only 12, but still can remember it..one of few childhood deep memories still have...Dad worked up a bbq and we feasted on them..beautiful and fresh...hard to beat fresh big piper...Sadly never got up there again. I remember Mum saying don`t swim..us kids never got it..but later on about 20 years ago, she told us they had seen 2 huge fish..suspected marlin..or most likely white sharks they had apparently seen in amongst the school....Truly incredible there....Can see its incredible diving there...yet..indeed that part of NZ is well known for Great Whites..you will not see many divers there, even in summer...I think you do have guts going diving out there..on flip side, I guess you'll never know if those bid whites turn up...if get my drift ...By the way , Love the vids...Best of luck and keep up great videos!
Epic vid mate, under water in the air & by hand you capture the absolute beauty that NZ is. How good do those Kingy chunks look and the tip with the loin was amazing. Great cook up was a fitting feast to a great day. Thanks for sharing top quality vid
Definitely memories on that vid buddy. Thanks for sharing the beauty of NZ and sanity in this world which is much needed right now. Hope to run / dive into you sometime. Well done mate
I'm a a kayak fisherman from Venezuela, new to your channel. Excellent to find someone who does kinda of the same thing but in those cold waters in the other side of the world
Bro! This would have to be ur best one yet. Im already home sick & this one has definitely touched the soul. We have such a beautiful country, thank uou for this one mah bro. Safe travels from a home sick maori boy in oz 🤙🏻
Just watching this now, as a kayaker spearo/camper, I love your kayak videos mate. Yep, you got the wrong hole😅the spinal cord hole for the ike jime is the top one, the bottom one is an arterial stuff. It is incredible how it improves the taste, I love it, I do on all fishes that I catch, no way back.
Bro really appreciate you bringing your adventures to our screens effn love them all!!! That sashimi spread looked delicious (gotta have that wasabi!!) My 2023 vid pic 💯
Definitely whites up there, got circled by a juvenile straight out front back in 2015 chasing a cyclone swell, blessed with a peaceful encounter. Love your work. keep it up!
With a spot like that heaven would have to be seen as a downgrade. Disappointed at the start 34min vid for a few days spearing then BOOM stay tuned for more. Far king legend 👍👍👍
Thx so much… watching a temporary escape from stress/reality. If I lived in NZ would 100% be out there. Here in Boston, just not that much opportunity for spearing. Have looked into it, but the striped bass I love to kayak/surf fish are illegal to spear. Very few other opportunities. Def gonna do some prospecting for lobster under big glacially deposited rocks near shore. Thx for inspiring my old ass. 🤙🏼
I helicoptered up along that coast a couple of months back and was shocked by the number of sharks bro....spotted literally 100-200 decent sized hammerheads out the back and 3 massive whites in really close among the breakers
Yep I’ve heard about the whites there so was keeping cautious the whole time and got out when it got too dirty. Luckily don’t have the same concentrations in winter too ( from my understanding)
Ollie. Back in the day I ran a float line clipped to the bow and then clipped to my weight belt. Meant I could use a reel gun. Towed the kayak. Just make sure the paddle is clipped off. Was perfect even snooping. I ditched the anchor. No need. If I was working an area l would clip off the floating to a shallow reef. Try it. Oh and had a mate lose a big king off his floatline there to a white. Just sayn'
❤ Atahua Bro spiritually Healing spot I really rate this video Ollie well done it's one of me favourite Hunting fishing grounds and by crikey that sushimi looked the Bomb 😊🎉
Fantastic video, hey just wondering what length the bungee float line is that you connect the speargun to the front of the kayak? Also what brand is it? if you have a link to the same float line that would be great.
Hey mate that float line is a Riffe Bungee (not hard line) and only short (around 10m). Not ideal length a 15 would be great. Bungee actually not ideal for around reefs, as can get cut. Hard line more suited. I just don’t have anything else currently. Cheers. Lots of hard lines out there some shit but some good ones which will Be cheaper than the riffe

Haha yeah bro some would say that’s crazy. I think sitting at home on a weekend to ‘chill’ after a big week is crazy. Life is too short
Bro, thats my home town! Sick video man... I appreciate that you are not out there smashing everything; only taking what you need. Good on you mate.
Cheers bro.
Hi man just wanted to say most underrated youtuber I hope you get more subs you are one of the best in my opinion cheers keep up the good work 😊

Awesome vid bro
Totally agree. Most places in winter time to go, sure it’s cold as less fish but not hard to get a feed and much more peaceful!
I felt second hand peace and chill watching this bro....damn good video!!
